on the roof of my car.

I like to imagine its past life, the roads it drove and the places it has seen.

Las Vegas can be a perfect starting point to experience whitewater rafting adventures in the Grand Canyon segment of the mighty Colorado River.

Last one from Casa Grande ... They built the ramada over the main building in 1932. It's called the Olmstead Shelter after it's designer. The shelter also serves as home to a pair of great horned owls. I think it gives the site an almost surreal feel.

Me: "Of course Janyel is flipping me the bird. As usual."

Janyel: "I always do that, 'cause that's how I feel about photos."

#DidYouKnow: #FountainHills is home to the largest freshwater, continuously running fountain! #ArizonaLiving

More from Casa Grande ... In the 1800s, travelers would scratch their names into the walls as they passed through. Names can be seen throughout the structure and include settlers and military personnel. They don't let people do this anymore.

Located behind the Clarkdale Clubhouse, with a striking view of the Sycamore Canyon, and Sedona in the distance, the historic Clarkdale Pool has been closed for several years. Apparently the maintenance costs are more than the town can bear, and revenue from pass sales isn't enough to handle the expenses either.

We always enjoyed refreshing dips in the pool. It's just up the trail from our lower town neighborhood. I loved standing in our front yard and hearing the kids splash and shout "Marco! ... Polo!", and the occasional whistles from the lifeguards, reminding that there was No! Running!

Clarkdale councilman Richard Dehnert has spent the past couple of years working on raising funds to re-open the pool for Summer 2011.

This is my favorite photo from the river today.

Now that Simon is halfway through his vaccinations we can take him on some little adventures outside of the yard.

rescued from imminent squishing in a dusty parking lot, and moved elswhere.

Verde River Greenway, Clarkdale AZ.

An organization called Friends of the Verde River Greenway has been working along this riparian area, removing garbage and mapping invasive plants for removal. This tire appears to have been pulled from the river, but left behind on the shore.

More from Casa Grande ... The Hohokam who built this site also built the canals that run through the state. No one is sure what Casa Grande was used for, it was most likely a gather place or waypoint. You can't enter the structure but you can look in.

Big Shot tip: If sticky or uncooperative, the Magic-Cube flashes sometimes flash best when you hold the camera upside-down.

More from Scottsdale ... Downtown Scottsdale is a place where you can buy an Arizona t-shirt in one store, an expensive painting by a local artist in the next, and finish up with a gourmet burger and martini after. I spotted this sonoran themed ensamble in a shop window.

Flying the Chicago flag for visitors arriving Monday afternoon.

I slept in the back of the Toyota. I've slept in this truck probably 100 times in the past 15 years. I thought it would be cozy with the 2 futons, the 20-below bag, the down comforters, and the 2 dogs, but I lay there for about 4 hours shivering before I was able to drift off to sleep.

Chad rode his KTM back home, because he had to work the next morning.

Monsoon season in Arizona means one morning you wake up and your yard is suddenly chihuahua-deep in weeds. Like almost overnight. The push mower ain't gonna cut back this jungle. Time to bust out the weed-wacker.

Savoring the last bits of summer, floating in the Verde, soaking up the fading sunshine, watching dragonflies get frisky, and sipping cold Old Chubs (Oskar Blues Brewery, Lyons, Colorado) in the sand.

During the summer, wear clothes that are quick drying and do not forget to put on some sunscreen and wear protective sunglasses. You are also not allowed to wear slippers or flip flops, or even go barefoot. You should wear water shoes or sandals with straps

getting ready to head up to the Gulch for a Saturday night party.

After Clarkdale's morning parade festivities, we went to the Verde River with Tim & Ruth Ellen.
