My wife and I recently took a trip to Wisconsin Dells and toured the "colorful" downtown area. I didn't have this reaction when I first laid my eyes on Wally World.

From Wikipedia: Wisconsin Dells is a city in south-central Wisconsin, with a population of 2,678 people as of the 2010 census. It straddles four counties: Adams, Columbia, Juneau, and Sauk. The city takes its name from the dells of the Wisconsin River, a scenic, glacially formed gorge that features striking sandstone formations along the banks of the Wisconsin River. Together with nearby Lake Delton, the city forms an area known as "the Dells". A popular Midwestern tourist destination, the Dells area has numerous indoor waterparks and outdoor waterparks, proclaiming itself the "Waterpark Capital of the World". It is home to the largest outdoor waterpark in the U.S., Noah's Ark. Most attractions are located on the Strip, otherwise known as the Wisconsin Dells Parkway. The Dells area has an estimated five million annual visitors.

I remember playing this game as a kid. This Big Bertha was at an arcade at Ocean Beach in Connecticut. She looks like she has seen better days but I was still happy to play a few games of "Feed Big Bertha." :)

Being a child of the 70's, arcade games hold more for me than these xbox things... I've often thought about buying one - a real one - for home. I've looked at MAME cabinets and all sorts of options, but at the moment I've only got a little place with little space, so what I needed was a little arcade machine. I drew this up over the last couple of evenings in CorelDRAW. It stands about 130cm / 5" tall & was laser cut from 3mm acrylic.

This is in my friend Bob's parents basement seen on March 12,1985 he had many video games pinball games and juke boxes lining the walls he still has most of them and more and he used to have lots of party's down here in the 1980's and early 90's.

Momo and I had been dying to visit Rusty Quarters Arcade for awhile now. We finally had the right motivation! Blythe Physical Challenge "Blythe loves the 80's!" The one thing we really loved about the 80's was playing all of the newest video games! This place has them all! Q*BERT, Donkey Kong, (DK Jr. too!), Mario Brothers, Centipede, Joust, Frogger, Galaga, Tetris and SPACE INVADERS DELUXE!!!

The place was packed with kids of all ages shoving their quarters into the machines...the sounds and sights brought us immediately back to skipping church (never school!) and hanging out in the video arcades in town!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane...it's definitely been a TRIP!!!

(check out our photo stream for some of the other groovy games!)

I saw this Donkey Kong from across a parking lot and made a bee line right to him. Why is this sorta thing so appealing to me? Why did I have to argue with myself not to buy it? (In the end, the very practical reason I left it there was because it was huge and would take up too much space.)

I'll tell you why.

It's because I am a child of the '80s and gravitating to this kinda thing is ingrained in me, like how kids of the '30s loved their Cupie Dolls, or how kids of the '50s loved their Schwinns, and their coonskin caps, or children of the '60s cannot look away from a Slinky, a Barbie or a GI Joe. Everything about him screams to me that he was born in a roller rink arcade and he's cousin to the Monchichis.

What will children of the '10s go bananas for?

From the east end of the P'ungmul flea market...the arcade game near the back may be Korean-branded and would be a good project for coin-up restorers. The radios look like they could be rehomed too. ;-)

Donkey Kong is an arcade game designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and released by Nintendo in 1981. Miyamoto's game, developed with Nintendo's chief engineer, Gunpei Yokoi, is considered to be the earliest video game with a storyline that visually unfolded on screen. An early example of the platform game genre, its protagonist Jumpman (later renamed Mario) must rescue a damsel in distress, Lady, from his mistreated pet, a giant ape named Donkey Kong. An success in both North America and Japan, Nintendo licensed the game to Coleco, who developed home console versions for numerous platforms.

The Museum of the Moving Image, located at 36-01 35 Avenue in Astoria, promotes the public understanding and appreciation of the art, history, technique and technology of film, television, and digital media by collecting, preserving, and providing access to moving-image related artifacts via multimedia exhibitions and educational programming. Originally established in 1977 as the Astoria Motion Picture and Television Center Foundation, opened on September 10, 1988, in the former East Coast home as Paramount Pictures as the first museum in the United States that was evoted solely to the art, history and technology of film, television and video. Following a $67 million expansion by architect Thomas Lesser, starting in March 2008, the museum doubled its size and reopened in January 2011.

On a date @ Chuck E Cheese's!

9/11 had a Hugh impact on everyone in the civilized world. A day in which none of us will ever forget. After 9/11, I concentrated on restoring old Firefighting items to help honor the people who perished and the people who suffered in any way during one of the darkest days in history.

Each day I look at these items and it reminds me of that terrible day but also of the brave men and women who was there. "We will never forget"
