Giant Desert Asparagus, asparagus officinalis gigantus var. deserti, is a rare plant, growing only in the deserts of southern California.
They can grow up to ten feet tall. This specimen is just a tad over six feet. They are a favorite food of the desert tortoise. They are eatable by humans and were a staple food of local Native Americans in the spring when the distinctive stalk grows. Preparation is the same as it's smaller cousin, but obviously a bigger vegetable steamer is required.

The parade went to the SOCK EXCHANGE (Pacific Stock Exchange) where socks were exchanged and thrown in the air!
...and of course, the PARADE would not be complete without a visit to the cold black BANKER'S HEART in front of BANK OF AMERICA where marchers tossed pennies at the black marble 'sculpture'.

The male Osprey on Tigertail Beach loved to bring interesting things to the nest. Here he has picked up a woman's T-shirt from the beach (neatly folded). Also in the nest this season, various plastic bags, a plastic sheet, a brown flipflop, a bikini top and pieces of rope. At the back of the nest is a fisherman's net. Great sense of humor these ospreys.

I love Utah weather. Wasatch front, snow ski morning, water ski afternoon. Twenty miles apart! Check the snow report. We still have +-100inch base for skiing and it was 80° day before yesterday. Today we all went up so snowbasin for for a little crosscountry at MaplesTrailhead. We often do this after dark with headlamps. Taz loves it when the drifts are huge to jump into. Today was the coldest day I remember, the wind was blowing at 40 knots about 6'pm and the drifts were GIANT!
Can you refer to those :circles of confusion" as Bokeh when they are really SNOW? This shot is essentially what a flash does to snow after dark! Yes, she was looking directly back at the flash

The parade went to the SOCK EXCHANGE (Pacific Stock Exchange) where socks were exchanged and thrown in the air!
...and of course, the PARADE would not be complete without a visit to the cold black BANKER'S HEART in front of BANK OF AMERICA where marchers tossed pennies at the black marble 'sculpture'.
