The only App I used to improve my work was the native IPhone editing system. There I've simply reduced the color to a monochromatic setting and tried to underexpose the scene for a more dramatic result.

The shot was made during a regular touristic visitation at the former Hitler's Eagles Nest, at Berchtesgaden National Park, Germany. The main difficulty I had was to wait for the crowds of tourists to leave the tunnel, so I could have a short gap of time to center the subject. The focus and the photometry were set on the floor, at a short distance. Then the lights, the emptiness, and the heavy historic atmosphere naturally showed up in the picture.

The TinType app is particularly well suited to the dark and bleak nature of my photography. Here's a conversion of a 2016 photo of a Gothic receiving vault in Troy Township Ohio. It resembles a Civil War era image.

Hipstamatic & Snapseed

apps used: Snapseed, Procreate

iPadPro, Pencil, MetaBrush, Glaze, Procreate, Snapseed

Apps: Hipstamatic, Snapseed, Pixelmator, Prisma, and Photoshop Express.

This is a “double exposure” created from 2 photos that were processed in Hipstamatic: one in black & white and the other in vivid color.

Combined in Snapseed. Sharpened a bit in Photoshop Express. Selective edits and the bokeh in the upper right was added in Pixelmator. Finished with just a little bit of Prisma’s “Dream” conversion.

Edits done using apps on an iPad Pro (all mentioned above) and iPhone (hipstamatic only).

A vivid color Hipstamatic version can be found in my photo stream.

What it was:

Reflections II: Antony Gormly

deCordova Museum, Lincoln Massachusetts

Museum website description:

Reflection II is comprised of two 1,600-lb iron casts of the sculptor's 6-foot-3-inch body facing each other on either side of an expansive glass wall next to the entrance of the museum. One figure stands outside while the other confronts his counterpart from the inside. ....The architectural barrier of the building defines the sculpture, making it an image of alienation.

PS:

Speaking of “alienation,” the figure on the far right reminded me of the aliens in the movie “Signs’” (2002). That’s how an idea to add the bokeh to the upper right (over his shoulder) originated: I was thinking about adding a UFO - a shimmering light in the sky. 👽

Apps Mill: Ontario’s Old Mills. Built in 1841, it was actively operated until 1954. At that time Hurricane Hazel washed out the dam which supplied the mill with water and it was abandoned. It is near Brantford.

Vielen, vielen Dank Connie für diesen Spaß !! 💕

My dear Flickr friend Connie and her sister found this fun app that can bring faces to life with just one picture (!). 😛 So she had the idea that it should work with dolls too. It's so incredible what's possible these days, to see Luis and Connie's doll Bonnie with facial expressions and talking !!!! The fact that they even speak English may be due to their earlier stay in Hogflatz ... 😉

Many, many thanks Connie for this fun !!! 💕

8 second long exposure taken with Slow Shutter Cam app in Low Light Mode with an iPhone XS. Taken in a rainy Sunday evening in Budapest. Here’s a page from my blog where I explain the apps and techniques I use for taking photos at night with iPhone: nocamerabag.com/iphone-photography/night-photography

Something a little different from me for today's image. The photo was taken late this evening in my kitchen at home. The view is a Macro shot of a Needle in a Spool of cotton. The image serves a dual purpose today. It is part of my photo a day as taken and edited on my iPhone, plus it is my entry for Macro Mondays - Handle With Care.

The photo was taken using a Macro Lens attachment and the standard Camera app on my iPhone 6.

First I used the app Snapseed to edit the photo. I cropped the image into a square and applied the Tonal Contrast preset. I then Increased the Sharpness a little and decreased the Highlights. After this I boosted the Saturation, Warmth and Contrast. Next I used the app PicsArt to apply the artistic Oil Painting FX. Finally I used PhotoToaster to add the Recover Highlights preset, the Vibrant FX and the Medium Dark Vignette. I then applied the Stucco texture and the Stacked frame.

Apps used: Snapseed, PhotoToaster, Laminar, Modern Grunge, DistressedFX, Superimpose, Diptic.

Special thanks to MartinaP. who brought to my attention David Hayes' tutorial about "frame-within-a-frame" techniques.
