I did not get a final approach shot but made sure to stay in the pattern and get a shot during a slow low approach.
Costa Mesa, CA – Visited the Lyon Air Museum and witnessed the majestic flight of a North American “Mitchell” B-25 Bomber. This particular plane was used for combat patrol flights in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. After World War II it was used to transport pilots and crew members. What makes this museum so unique is that all aircraft are flight ready. Each aircraft is flown about once a month to keep it “in shape”.
On this day a veteran pilot of a B-25 was at the museum telling stories and answering questions. It was awe inspiring to hear the thunderous roar of the twin engine (1,700 hp) aircraft as its chrome finish reflected the sun and sky when it flew overhead. I can’t image what it must have been like when there were hundreds of these birds peppering the horizon.
165 approaches Drogheda with the 09.27 from Dublin Pearse. The junction at left gave access to "Buckie's Sidings", site of the original Dublin & Drogheda Railway station and now (I believe) the site of a railcar maintenance depot.
The field to the right is now a housing estate.

I learnt about this challenge back in mid January when a friend of my posted about it on her blog, I immediately decided to enter. I knew my color would be purple and that I would use circles so I could try out my new circular attachment for my sewing machine. In February all my purple fabric was taken out of my stash and played with lovingly. Many drawings were done on my work notebook but none of them said, “This is IT”.
On the Friday night before the deadline I knew I had to attempt something so I cut a 12 ½ inch square and decided to just go with the flow and see what would happen. By midnight I had 2 of the panels completed and totally enjoyed the freedom of an Improvisational approach and not following a pattern. By Sunday evening I had the backing pieced and I was ready to quilt. I am really pleased with the outcome and hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I did making it.

The light rail route runs west of Union Pacific Railroad in Southeast Portland. This view looks south from the Bybee Street Bridge towards SE Tacoma Street. The cleared right-of-way with the orange cones is where light rail track will be installed.

New pics from an old anime character figure kit. Light was good today, I had a free day, so I added some more shots...
This is a VERY tricky kit, nothing for beginners, for various reasons! While the parts fit together quite well, both crossed legs and reclined posture were quite a problem for painting (I use no airbrush, everything was 'manually' made with brushes) and display. Lots of skin - which calls for an immaculate finish - were a HUGE challenge, especially at this large scale.
Anyway, the finished kit looks awesome! For a proper display I built a kind of sofa or divan bed from construction foam with a velvet cover, which would match the figure's posture.
The kit did not contain any material or reference for a base, but AFAIK the complete/original kit is based on a drawing in which Peorth is laying on a giant leaf or rose petal - a bit too delicate for my craftsman skill, everything has its limits. This is a more simple solution, though, and I went for a "bedroom" atmosphere ;)
Anyway, both kit and divan match well, the only drawback of the kit is that the figure actually looks downwards, so it is hard to put it on display in an appealing way. Its perspective is very forced and limited, as you can tell from the picture. Anyway, I took shots from almost any direction, so that you might get a better overview.
Added details include some extra hair strings (they make the character much more lively) plus the hand-made, delicate earrings, made from thin brass wire and 4mm wood beads.
Another tricky part was/is the fact, that this Peorth character is supposed to wear transparent white gloves and socks, and that you can see both jewelry and a kind of armlets through them.
My approach was a mix of white transparent acrylic paint, plus some white dry painting, which made gloves and socks look as if they were made from lace.
A southbound UTA train departs Draper with a UP manifest on approach. The UTA train will have to wait at the end of the siding, as the Northbound was held up by the previous SB that was running 45 minutes late due to an on-train disturbance that required UTA police response.
It,s late afternoon and I went Wolverhampton to photograph the Class 37 on a Holyhead to Birmingham train [37421], while waiting for it I took 7 pictures , 86101 86227/232/245. 90001 43097. above is Class 47 47853 passing over with a Poole to Liverpool Lime Street service. Saturday 23/07/1993.

The first Friday of the New Year (calendar): The Lamido's visit to the mosque on such a special day had everyone out for the ceremony.
Note- Another driver was driving.
The down home signal is in view. The down section signal stands at the North end of the platform.
The marks are encrusted insect remains on the windscreen.
It is quite normal to still see snow on mountain tops in this area during the month of May.
We worked the train North of Edinburgh.
Followed this fellow trekker and put him in the frame to give some interest to the picture.

As we got nearer we could see Honister Slate Mine and it's huge car park. Our guide book rather downplayed the size of the place, making it sound like it was some tiny little hut or something, but this is a full blown "Slate Experience" with zip wires and everything

Yesterday was my last full day in America. It began in Brooklyn, where Peter had taken us so that he could visit his grandmother; while I rested in a pizza parlor, sipping a ginger ale and reading the Scarlet Letter - I bought a 6.95 special pizza, by the way, which Peter and I both enjoyed in the car. Later, we briefly partook in the festivities of a verily authentic Italian cafe, which Peter so desired to show me and in which elderly men had gathered to watch football (Juventus versus Manchester United), to smoke and to kick up the banter typical of these sagacious, cultural folk. In the evening, Mark and I met at Starbucks, to play chess and to test, once more, our respective price sensitives against an armada of niched coffees. I drank the lemonade.
