Here are all the mobile phones I've owned. Starting from the left we have:

Ericsson SH888

Originally introduced in 1998, I was given it in about 2000 by someone I used to work for who worked for Ericsson. It was one of the earliest dual-band phones and also one of the first with built in infrared. I think I managed to get it to talk to my Psion 5 once. Very solid and dependable.

Ericsson T39m

In 2001 I took out a contract with Vodafone and chose this phone to go with it. It features tri-band, Bluetooth, predictive text, GPRS and a WAP browser, nice clear screen and very good battery life. It's also very light and thin. It's seen a lot of use: I used it for just over two years I think, then I lent it to my housemate who used it for a year or so. It still works fine, though it is a little worn. One of the best phones Ericsson made.

Sony Ericsson T610

Oh dear. I don't know what came over me with this one. I thought it was time I had a new phone on renewing my contract and the T610 caught my eye with its retro styling. This was in 2003 or so. Ericsson and Sony had joined forces to make phones and my good experience with the T39 lead me to believe this one would be OK. How wrong I was. Sony brought nice styling to the partnership, unfortunately rather than combining it with Ericsson's robust content they apparently discarded it altogether. It features a colour screen which is unreadable outdoors and a camera which not only takes pointlessly small 288x352 pictures, but the sensor lends a green tint usually and the optics distort to the edge of recognition. The software is very sluggish, especially when opening the text message inbox. The keys and joystick are not great, though they're even worse when mango chutney is applied I found. Yet another negative is the level of bastardisation by Vodafone, most annoyingly that the right-hand soft key always goes to "Vodafone Live" which I hardly ever used and was not allowed to change.

Nokia 6630

Just as soon as that contract was up I got this phone. I realised my mistake and so was much more careful choosing this one. Put off Sony Ericsson I decided to switch to Nokia and to splash out some extra cash to get a fairly high end smart phone. Definitely content over looks this time, it is a bit bulbous, funny looking and bulky. After the T610 the content is a very large breath of lovely fresh air. The very first thing I did was reassign all the shortcuts on the standby screen, because I could. Features a nice bright screen which is very legible in all lighting conditions, especially with the sensor which varies the backlight brightness depending on the ambient light level. It has a 1.3MP camera with reasonable optics though like nearly all phone cameras it doesn't cope well with bright lights in the shot. Has 3G and the keys are good and responsive. The main feature though is Series 60 which is a version of the Symbian OS. There's a fair bit of software available for it, including a version of PuTTY which is very handy. It takes a reduced size dual-voltage MMC memory card, it took me a while to find a compatible one, but I eventually got a 256MB card off ebay. It didn't take too long to fill it with music, pictures and text messages. One gripe with the software implementation is the lack of integration between the Symbian apps and the phone functions, for instance the clock and calendar applications have no connection so there is a lack of sophistication in how alarms can be set, one can't have different alarms repeated on different weekdays. I'd like to be able to set alarms which switch profiles for meetings, lectures etc. One can include a person's birthday in their entry in the contacts database, but it doesn't show up on the calendar.

Nokia E70

I've just got this one. After a fair bit of research, I was seriously considering the N93 with its 3.2MP camera with auto focus and 3x optical zoom, but then I saw some results and came to the conclusion that the quality is still not that good. So Instead I went for this phone, the most exciting feature of which is the full and very nice to use qwerty keyboard, or is it the 802.11G wireless networking? Probably both equally. SSH on this phone is a joy, nethack is quite playable though the 'b' key is on the other side of the screen to the rest of the direction keys. The WLAN really is great, if I'm at home or near an accessible network (including unconfigured netgears) I can use the networking features of my phone without worrying about paying for every byte. The browser has had mixed reviews, I think it is mostly very good. It copes with just about every page, including flickr with all its javascript, and though you get a little frame view onto the entire page it always seems to be wide enough to fit the main text column without having to scroll sideways to read the text. A major problem with it is the lack of RAM. It often runs out of memory on graphics heavy pages, though sometimes just reloading helps. Quite a hassle for me is the lack of ability to download a file linked to from a page, all it can do is attempt to open it with an installed program. I can't even find a way to copy and paste the linked url nor indeed any text on a web page. Again it suffers from a lack of integration between phone and application functionality. Yesterday I looked up a restaurant's phone number on their web page and wanted to dial it, all I could do is commit it to memory, switch to the phone interface and type it in.

3rd January 2022: Washtec SoftCare Pro car wash at BP (independent) North Baddesley, Hampshire, installed second hand in 2010.

Despite this and the previous system being fitted with dryers, drying is not offered on any programmes. This is due to a condition of the original planning application of the petrol station from 1974. On another note, it is refreshing that this mid-1970s petrol station with low canopy, tiny shop and car wash survives in its current state and still seems to thrive.

After application, cover head with plastic shower cap and tuban/towel, whatever. It will be stained! I'm using gloves and a brush from a beauty supply store to apply. Use a glass/ceramic bowl--anything plastic will stain.

Tahiti Pearl Regatta

From May 16, 2012 to May 20, 2012

The most important regatta of the Pacific island is organised each year to be an exceptionally unique event combining regattas, sailing and canoes, human encounters as well as discoveries of charm. It’s the Tahiti Pearl Regatta. It is certainly the annual meeting point for those truly passionate about sailing from Tahiti and the islands of French Polynesia.

An exceptional location

The 2012 edition of the route allows the discovery of the islands of Raiatea and Taha’a, which share a lagoon, and of course Bora Bora.

The Tahiti Pearl Regatta is - and always has been - open to all types of sailing boats (monohull, catamarans, trimarans, private or chartered, even trans-pacific boats) with no size limits.

Each year between 40 and 50 boats from many different nationalities face off over three days, stopping the competition each night on one of the mythical French Polynesian islands.

The festivities begin from the 15th of May to the sound of Toere drums, Tahitian ukuleles and traditional song and dance.

Rig : autokap rig designed by Brooks Leffler

Cameras : Canon S 95 + GoPro hero H2

Wind : NE 12-15 knots

I was fortunate enough to fly a dual camera rig not to miss this session... when setting up the cameras, my finger probabaly changed the S 95 settings to "macro"... as a result all pictures made with the S95 went straight to the trash and I could only use the GoPro images.

for this session I was not on my "official" boat but boarded a local fishermen boat and we were just playing with the light, wind and speed, a rather challenging KAP session.

Apologies for the lateness of this post. Believe me, it's not for lack of being ecstatic, just manic busy-ness and more recently mild sickness.

But I am most certainly overwhelmingly appreciative.

On Tuesday this week, I reached 100% of the goal of my project interior / exterior (in fact, 102%) and since then have exceeded that again!

The most recent contributors to my cause were two Divine Sisters, Michelle McRae and Sarah Mercer, and both Kyle Warren and Adam Meyer showed further support!

I am unbelievably thankful to everyone who has shown their support for my residency at Hospitalfield in Arbroath, Scotland, in April next year, and once the deadline has passed will be in contact with those who have shown their support to follow up about addresses and such for rewards where relevant.

If you haven't had a chance yet and would still like to be involved, any additional funds raised over the goal of AUD1,550 will go toward my flight to the UK, and all rewards are still valid until midday on the 8th of December, Australian Daylight Savings Time.

I am so excited about this residency and, internet permitting, will be blogging about my experiences there as it happens. I hope to bring you some wonderful photographs and carry those over into a self-published collection of images and an exhibition to complete my interior / exterior series.

I'm also excited about two upcoming collaborations. One with Simon Groth, a Brisbane author, to take the form of a published collection of short stories / prose and images; the other, a second collaboration with Nick Kind, ex-pat Brit based in Melbourne, a potential "letters from home" blog in the form of images exchanged between us of each other's place of origin.

The residency will go ahead irrespective of the UK Home Office, but my move to the UK is still dependent on my application for a UK Ancestry Visa, which I posted off last Wednesday after having my biometric data taken. I can't see any reason why it would be declined, but don't want to assume anything.

Should all go to plan though, I will be in London for the long haul by the 18th of January next year, and I am unbelievably excited at that prospect. And daunted. But mostly excited.

For a fun interlude, this is a 2nd-take image based off of one of my popular pics posted here on flickr in the last couple years. This particular image was done with the help of the FaceApp application, where I took a photo of the original "2019-01-29 video-snap13" pic I've posted here, then just applied a very modest filter. This was done to help for example with the poor lighting or graininess in the original, or to enhance the makeup just a tad -- and of course to have some fun. What do you think? How do I look? :-)

Hi! In the spirit of concentrating the public's attention in our stores and keeping the fees low and affordable to everyone, Mainstore Releases is ready propose to you a brand new store-related initiave: the Mainstore Madness! As for the Annoying Hunt, this a project that I have been doing for a while now and I think could be a great project that we can all share together!

What is Mainstore Madness?

Once a month we ask you to make a new mainstore release, no dates, no deadlines, just when you feel you can do it. The new release will stay up at your store for 48 hours with a 40% discount. We encourage you to have a countdown timer in order to show customers the remaining time they have. After that you can put the full price and keep it at your store. The responsability of your product/timing/discount etc is up to you cause I don't have a team of people that can check, so please follow the rules or the customers will skip your store and it's a pity!

Why to join?

This project is made for designers that cannot afford/are not invited to events, but also for designers that join events but want to focus the attention in their mainstores too.

The initiative will start in March.

Info and rules

- You must have an inworld store.

- You must join once a month, any day it's more comfortable to you.

- The fee is 1000L per month.

- You can share your discounted new mainstore release anytime in our Discord server (in the proper channel) and, of course, in your social media in order to promote them.

- You must rez at your store the Mainstore Madness poster that will show the discounted product(s) of the day of all stores joining so we can promote each others I will personally change the image in the poster every time you will release a new product! This is the key to this project, the mainstore community promotion!

- You can choose if you want to set the product for your group, for Mainstore Releases group or for everybody.

- Vendor images must be sent 2 days before the release of the new product via a provided form, so I have the time to create the poster.

- Once accepted you will receive a designer kit with the poster, info and a Mainstore Madness logo to add to your mainstore release.

43068 started off in 1979 with Inter City (British Rail) along with partner 43069 as part of 254007. In 1987 it was selected as one of eight power cars to have standard buffers fitted in order to work with the initial batch of Class 91s on services on the East Coast Main Line and also on test trains during electrification. In 1991 it moved to the common pool of Cross Country power cars where it remained until the introduction of the Voyagers when it returned to East Coast duties with Grand Central. In 2008 it was fitted with an MTU power unit and was renumbered 43468, after delivery of Class 800s to Great Western Railway enough Class 180s were released to allow Grand Central to dispose of its remaining HSTs which moved to East Midlands Railway in 2017 but they were once again replaced by Class 180s in 2021 resulting in their withdrawal. 43468 is now operated by Rail Adventure and is seen here outside Eastleigh Works awaiting application of its eight livery. Just behind is Pullman liveried Mk3 FO 41183 belonging to Locomotive Services.

Masks have always been a central feature of the Venetian carnival; traditionally people were allowed to wear them between the festival of Santo Stefano (St. Stephen's Day, December 26) and the start of the carnival season and midnight of Shrove Tuesday. They have always been around Venice. As masks were also allowed on Ascension and from October 5 to Christmas, people could spend a large proportion of the year in disguise . Maskmakers (mascherari) enjoyed a special position in society, with their own laws and their own. Venetian masks can be made in leather or with the original glass technique. The original masks were rather simple in design, decoration, often had a symbolic, and practical function. Nowadays, most of them are made with the application of gesso and gold leaf and are all hand-painted using natural feathers and gems to decorate.
