The London Hippodrome, opened in 1900, was designed by Frank Matcham as a hippodrome for circus and variety performances The auditorium featured cantilevered galleries, removing the columns that often obstructed views in London theatres. In 1909, it was reconstructed by Matcham as a music hall and variety theatre with 1,340 seats The original interior was demolished in 1958, and the Hippodrome was converted into a nightclub, The Talk of the Town. Renovated yet again, the building was reopened as a nightclub/restaurant called The London Hippodrome in 1983. In 2006, Charmaine Haig took over the lease of the Hippodrome building before a casino licence application could be secured for future use. Haig initially maintained and managed the empty venue on her own, then changed the venue's name back to the London Hippodrome from its previous name, Cirque. Shortly afterward, Haig's events company began running private events in the venue, but once again using the space to its full capacity as a variety venue. In 2008, Haig and her business partner acquired a theatre license for the venue and subsequently turned the venue back into a theatre. In 2009, the Hippodrome’s lease was acquired by father and son entrepreneurs Jimmy and Simon Thomas, who began extensive restorations, taking the Hippodrome back to Matcham's original designs for use as a casino and entertainment venue. The Hippodrome Casino opened in 2012

Letter of Application and Testimonials for Oliver J. Lodge for the Chair of Experimental Physics at University College, Liverpool, 1881
Lodge was Assistant-Professor of physics at University College, London when he applied for the post at the newly established University College at Liverpool. His letter of application gives details of his academic career and his plans to establish a laboratory at Liverpool, to inspire students with a love of the subject, and to develop a programme of evening classes, mentioning his own experience of studying in the evenings and stating that he ‘should be glad to help young men in like condition’
The application includes testimonials from colleagues at University College, London, and the British Association for the Advancement of Science, and from his friend and mentor, Professor G. F. Fitzgerald.
During his time at Liverpool, Lodge lectured on the ether and discovered the electrostatic condensation of fog. He also carried out experiments on the electromagnetic field, producing electromagnetic waves guided along wires using discharge from a Leyden jar in 1888 during work on lightening conductors.
He returned to experiments with radio waves in the 1890s and, with the help of Alexander Muirhead, gave the first public demonstration of radio telegraphy, using the method of signaling in Morse code via long and short pulses. He demonstrated his radio-wave receiver apparatus at the British Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Liverpool in 1896. Lodge also lectured on X-rays in Liverpool the same year

About Skill-Pill Mobile Learning
Skill-Pill Mobile Learning is based in London and has been developing mobile learning applications for corporate clients in the US, UK and mainland Europe.
Skill-Pills are two minute long video clips – mobile learning applications that run on any video-enabled mobile/cellphone, smartphone, Blackberrry, PDA, iPod and if you are lucky to own one yet – the iPhone! Our branded Skill-Pills are designed to reinforce or refresh past learning and training at a point when the user needs it most; typically just before an event that they were trained for. For example, it could be a tough negotiation, a sales meeting or an important presentation.
Skill-Pills provide a quick and compelling reminder of the salient techniques and lessons, for just-in-time learning.
The pill is delivered to your phone via an SMS and acts as a memory prompt. The briefing is succinct and concise. Skill-Pills can be linked to your electronic calendar management system and you can specify when you want one sent to your phone – just before key events in your working week.
