Letter of Application and Testimonials for Oliver J. Lodge for the Chair of Experimental Physics at University College, Liverpool, 1881
Lodge was Assistant-Professor of physics at University College, London when he applied for the post at the newly established University College at Liverpool. His letter of application gives details of his academic career and his plans to establish a laboratory at Liverpool, to inspire students with a love of the subject, and to develop a programme of evening classes, mentioning his own experience of studying in the evenings and stating that he ‘should be glad to help young men in like condition’
The application includes testimonials from colleagues at University College, London, and the British Association for the Advancement of Science, and from his friend and mentor, Professor G. F. Fitzgerald.
During his time at Liverpool, Lodge lectured on the ether and discovered the electrostatic condensation of fog. He also carried out experiments on the electromagnetic field, producing electromagnetic waves guided along wires using discharge from a Leyden jar in 1888 during work on lightening conductors.
He returned to experiments with radio waves in the 1890s and, with the help of Alexander Muirhead, gave the first public demonstration of radio telegraphy, using the method of signaling in Morse code via long and short pulses. He demonstrated his radio-wave receiver apparatus at the British Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Liverpool in 1896. Lodge also lectured on X-rays in Liverpool the same year

Anxiety is a lightweight leopard-only to-do application that syncs with iCal and Mail. To download or read more, visit www.anxietyapp.com/
This shot shows the preferences window, which gives you plenty of different options for how Anxiety behaves and what it displays. As can be seen, you can enable or disable a menu bar item, which toggles the application's visibility like Twitterrific, and the dock item. The application can be added to the list of login items from within the preferences window. Another preference allows you to have Anxiety fade out whenever it isn't the most frontmost app; by default it floats over all other windows.
The user can specify which application they would like to use to open to-dos externally. When a list item is double clicked, either iCal or Mail is launched to reveal the selected task. Additionally, hitting command-i will open the chosen application to show the task list in its entirety, including completed items.
The behavior of the list window can be customized as well; by default, it splits all of your tasks into multiple "lists", separated into groups based on which calendar they have been added to, and lists can be switched by clicking the title of the current list in the titlebar to show the alternative lists. In the screenshots above you can see this behavior is denoted to be active when a set of small arrows appear to the right of the title of the selected list in the titlebar. The alternative to this display method is to simply group all of your tasks together in the list window together, regardless of their calendar affiliation.
You can imagine that, with a heap of tasks in the list, the list is going to get pretty tall trying to accommodate them. By default, when you add a task, the window will resize to leave room for this new item, so that it is visible along with all its counterparts. However, after a certain number of items have been added, the window will reach its maximum size, and a scrollbar will appear allowing you to scroll through the list of tasks. While you're free to resize the window yourself to make it smaller on demand using the resize handle, the "Maximum number of list rows" preference allows you to configure how many list items should be able to appear visibly before the window hits this maximum size and uses scrollbars.
The "Task and Calendar counts" in footer preference allows you to turn on some simple counts that appear at the bottom of the window. Meanwhile, a small configuration menu can be enabled that sits in the list window footer and enables access to various menu items.
As you can see from these screenshots, alternating list row backgrounds (where list items alternate white background and black backgrounds) are enabled by default, but you can turn them off for a straight-black background.
The second last is for animating the list window transitions. This isn't as interesting as it sounds; all it means is, when enabled, windows fade out when closed, when inactive, or fade in when the application becomes active or the menubar item is clicked.

These birds are just uncommon enough (and pretty enough) to draw a crowd when they show up - especially when they are in good light.
Common thinking is that their pink color comes from the food that they eat (as does the pink color of Flamingos) - often, however, it is simply the result of a trip to the beauty shop and a careful application of Clairol's polpular "Flamingo Pink #37" - also popular with younger birds are so-called "tramp stamps" and body piercings.

PT&P custom designed big ton spring supports for a propane dehydrogenation application at a chemical plant in Texas. The components within this assembly include the spring housing, coils, name plates, pressure plate, and load indicator. While both assemblies measure 42” L x 24” W x 26-1/2” H, it was modified based on independent specifications for operating loads and movement to accommodate a load of 94,261 lb. and 0.085” of movement. This type of support is ideal for applications, such as supporting pressure vessels that combine very heavy loads with thermal expansion because of the stability they provide. The big ton was tested in the load cell to insure proper operation throughout the entire working range of the coils.

AkkenCloud™ at Staffing World 2013 in Orlando showcasing their ability to provide functionality of application tracking software and more.
Constantly changing wind conditions cause abrupt load changes in wind turbines. Particularly during strong gusts of wind, storms or a wind energy system's start-up phase, towers can tilt so much that the overall system lifetime is affected. An inclination sensor can reduce this stress on the system by reliably measuring the absolute angle of inclination and ensuring that limit values are not exceeded.
A scholarly workbench –as the central App- that is able to pull data from various places (eg Repository, Subject specific tools, experimentation devices, etc). The scholar uses the workbench to track what they are doing with the data (e.g. new papers, new reports, experiments, annotation). Workbench is providing a trace of all the data it knows about and sending it back as audit report (metadata stream) to the repository. The workbench will check in/out information and track output.
Cross Repository Challenges:
-Define a implementation neutral format to track these logged events across repository platforms
-Setting up workbench so it can get data from various sources (API)
-Setting up workbench to work with specific subject areas (APIs being specific yet general enough)
-Knowledge of external applications and how to interact
-Logging from the tools that are being used by the scholar into the workbench (plugging tools into workbench)
Scenario:
-Proof of concept scenario: two services (limited number of data sources) that the workbench is logging data from (word-processing + specialized research tool).
-Workbench sync with repository and inputting any additional outputs or data to do with object and workflow.
Precedents (Standards, APIs, Projects): BPEL, jBPM, YAWL, Gdata, APP, Taverna Project, MyExperiment Project, Open Social API, ???
