In 2021, Warrington was successful in its application for Zero Emission Bus Regional Area (ZEBRA) funding to support the introduction of zero-emission buses. The Department of Transport provided approximately £21.5m to replace Warrington’s Own Buses’ fleet of diesel buses with new electric buses and provide the electric vehicle charging infrastructure needed at Warrington's Own Buses’ new depot.
By summer 2025, 105 electric buses were in service with Warrington’s Own Buses in a new bright yellow livery, all MCV bodied Volvo BZLs comprising thirty-three double deckers (2001-2033), and seventy-two single deckers of varying lengths: four 9 metre (9001-9004), forty-nine 10.8 metre (1001- 1049) and nineteen 12.1 metre (1201-1219).
