Technically this hillside (near Saugerties, New York) probably has origins more in common with the Allegheny uplift rather than the Applachian mountain-building event, but I am sure Eastern US forest scenes like this inspired the composer Aaron Copland when he wrote Appalachian Spring.

The sky unfolded over Cacapon Mountain right at sunset. Cacapon Mountain runs northwest through Morgan and Hampshire counties in West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle and is part of the Allegheny Mountains.

With a promising forecast and the lure of two GP30s on the point it was time for Bill Kalkman, Ken Lewis, and yours truly to make another run to central Pennsylvania to catch the Reading & Northern Tamaqua to Mt Carmel turn (QAMC). The same power then continued to Reading on the late afternoon Tamaqua to Reading turn (QARG).
