A section of the legendary Appalachian Trail on a wet & foggy Winter morning in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. SNP has over 500 miles of trails, including 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail. The rain stopped just long enough to get my camera out :-)

From Wikipedia:
The Appalachian Trail, or simply the A.T., is a marked hiking trail in the eastern United States extending between Springer Mountain in Georgia and Mount Katahdin in Maine. The precise length of the trail changes over time as trails are modified or added. The total length is approximately 2,180 miles. The trail passes through the states of Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. The path is maintained by 30 trail clubs and multiple partnerships, and managed by the National Park Service and the nonprofit Appalachian Trail Conservancy. The majority of the trail is in wilderness, although some portions traverse towns, roads and cross rivers.
The Appalachian Trail is famous for its many hikers, some of whom, called thru-hikers, attempt to hike it in its entirety in a single season. Many books, memoirs, web sites and fan organizations are dedicated to this pursuit.
An unofficial extension known as the International Appalachian Trail continues north into Canada and to the end of the range, where it enters the Atlantic Ocean.
The Appalachian Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail form what is known as the Triple Crown of long distance hiking in the United States.

THANKS FOR VIEWING
Appalachian Brown (Lethe appalachia). Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, Prince George's County Maryland.
While on a hike and walk along the Bearfence Mountain Trail with a view looking south along the trail I was walking to the summit area and overlook. This is in Shenandoah National Park. My thought on composing this image was to use the hiking trail itself as a leading line with the forest all around. As the skies were overcast, I chose to focus on the area to my front and minimize any views of the skies.
I got a grab shot of this old Geep sitting at the large railcar repair facility on the east side of Alliance. I haven't found out much about this unit, I'm feeling like it's a GP35 but the tanks up top could be throwing me off. I haven't dug out the old spotter's guides to know for sure. There is also a neat GE centercab (80 tonner?) here but I didn't get a decent shot of it. July 4, 2022.
Another boring landscape of Pennsylvania. The fall is great this season, temperature is about 82 F degrees.

Each one of these held four prisoners at one time ...
No wiggle room for sure ...
Only one man, could get off the iron like bed, and stand ... then he had, to give the next person, a chance to stand, and so on ..
In 1874 Each designed to hold four prisoners, were used in a small East Tennessee Town of Madinsonville ..... On December 20th, 1917. Will Upton And His Uncle Drew Upton, were moved from these to be taken to a haging .. It has been stated, upon their transporting, both sang, the song ....... " I Am Coming Home "
Our prisoners, and inmates, think they have it, so hard these days we live in ...
I sincerely THINK NOT ..
I had to put these 2 pictures together, because they go together ..so I made a side by side collage ..
No Need for commenting ..

Oconaluftee River Trail, Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Our last stop at the Smokies was a stroll along the poetically serene Oconaluftee River. The trail was, once again, decorated with numerous wildflowers. These Appalachian ragworts were brilliant like the shining sun, weren’t they?
A local artist gifted me last evening with this oil on canvas painting of a farm I photographed in 2006 in the Appalachian foothills of Pike County, Ohio. The original photograph can be seen here: flic.kr/p/eNs4GC
I plan on posting a few images representing this famous hiking trail that is some 2,190 miles in length.....

I have been taking a little break here lately. So I thought I would play around with some photos in Lightroom. Post processing is not one of my strengths and I really need to change that.
