While driving the Blue Ridge Parkway yesterday to see the wonderful blooms of azaleas, I noticed these Appalachian Bluets. I used a wide aperture to soften the image.
Thanks for viewing my photos. Comments are always welcome.

We were returning home yesterday from a trip to the southeast US to visit family. We took a side trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, North Carolina and luck was with me. As the sun tried to break through a cloudy sky I just happened to be standing outside the car with camera in hand.
While this looks like the common Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, it is an Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail. The Appalachian is the largest of the PA Tigers, and the only known host plant is the Black cherry (Prunus serotina). Another similar Tiger found in Pa is the Canadian Tiger Swallowtail. A great book on the key features to distinguish the differences between the three Tigers in PA is "Butterflies of Pennsylvania" by Monroe and Wright. ID confirmed by D. Wright on BAMONA.

Canadian Pacific SD70ACu #7007 roars out of Tunnel and high over the Russell Fork River at Appalachian Twilight. I chased B651 across nearly the entire Big Sandy Subdivision — from the now replaced double-bracket at Calgon (CMG 5.5) to Pool Point Trestle on the former Clinchfield. With the severance of the Clinchfield in the wake of Hurricane Haliene, traffic counts have plummeted on both the Big Sandy and Kingsport Subs. Ultimately, full repair is expected, but one wonders how immediately the traffic will return

Satyrodes appalachia Sawmill Creek Park - Wow, a good year for these round here, I've found them in 3-4 locations over the season. Even got an open-winged shot today!
In West Virginia. I often forget just how dark and dreary those mountains can be at times. Dark and dreary, but still with a particular beauty.
The chilly air comes on strong as the sun disappears and a dreamy haze hangs over Lake Santeetlah in the mountains of western North Carolina.

Spring is my favorite time of years, and the Smoky Mountains my favorite place to be in the Spring. Just a shot of the Little River; I did use a Singh Ray Vari-ND Variable Neutral Density Filter because it was a bit bright.
I've had a tough time trying to photograph these gorgeous creatures; they stay close to the water and are usually quite skittish. This relatively cooperative male on the Yadkin River near Winston-Salem gave me some good results after an hour's work!
A clearing storm over the Allegheny Front and the Potomac River valley from the high cliffs of North Fork Mountain in West Virginia
A golden sunset over blooming Catawba Rhododendron is just what the doctor ordered!
Captured along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Craggy Gardens just north of Asheville, NC.
These mountains are truly my Haven, my refuge to peace and serenity.
This was a perfect ending to a beautiful day.
Have a great evening y'all, and thank you for stopping by to look!

The Appalachian Clubhouse is a historic structure located in the Elkmont Historic District. It was used as a gathering spot by lessees and guests of the Appalachian Club, which was established in 1910. Club members, mostly from Knoxville, built rustic cabins nearby to serve as weekend or summer retreats in the years before the park was created. The original clubhouse was destroyed by fire and replaced by the exsiting building in 1934. The building has now been rehabilitated by the National Park Service to its appearance in the 1930s.
The Appalachian Springs Event runs until May 20th

Just got electric power and running water back after a few days without them. This image describes the cause - snow is the South's Kryptonite. This image is NOT monochrome, but true colors.
For all you interested in baseball history or geography, the pasture in the image once belonged to Ty Cobb. His father's family came from this area and the Cobb's still own it.
Another bit of info: The border of the North Carolina / Georgia state line crosses this pasture and image from left to right just in front of the shed as seen by the viewer.
Now to start enjoying your images.
