This is the actual Apollo 8 capsule that the Yorktown fished out of the water after splashdown in 1968. The button console you see in front contains actual recordings made in flight and on the moon.

New York Central and Hudson River Railroad No. 999 is a 4-4-0 steam locomotive built for the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad in 1893, which was intended to haul the road's Empire State Express train service. It is claimed that in 1893 No. 999 was the first in the world to travel over 100 mph, although the probable maximum speed was 81 mph.

Edited Apollo 8 image of Earthrise seen from the Moon in December of 1968.

45 years ago this week, Bill Anders snapped this first photo of Earth taken by humans.

As Apollo 8 entered lunar orbit and they came around from the farside, this was their view. Through a bold decision by NASA to beat the Russians to the Moon, Bill Anders, Jim Lovell and Frank Borman were the first humans to orbit the Moon. It was such a momentous and emotional event, during a time of chaos in U.S. society, they were moved to recite from "Genesis". Perhaps the greatest Christmas present given to mankind, watching that live on Dec. 24.

Recently data was compiled from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and re-created the view as they would have seen it.
