When Louis Bradbury was unable to fine a home for his sculpture of Apollo, Elmer Grey persuaded him to give it to Caltech. It adorned a couple of different places in Throop Hall until the building was demolished. After suffering many indignities and long storage, Apollo was restored. A new home was found for him in the Braun Gymnasium.

As my morning coffee brewed, I slipped on my shoes and jacket, grabbed the Nikon, and headed out the door to see what the moon was looking like.

I'm no astronomer, but as near as I can tell, X marks the approximate spot where the Apollo 12 Lunar Landing Module set down on November 19, 1969. The landing area is known as Oceanus Procellarum, or the "Ocean of Storms". And it seems the flag that was set that day is still standing today, just short of 55 years later.

I just found that interesting.

Image was cropped only, as well as adding the flag and text in post processing. No other editing to the image was done.

A fountain (the Swans Fountain) already existed her from 1636, under the reign of Louis XIII, which Louis XIV decorated with the impressive and celebrated group in gilded lead representing Apollo on his chariot. The work of Tuby, after a drawing by Le Brun, it is inspired by the legend of Apollo, the Sun gold and emblem of the king. Tuby produced this monumental group between 1668 and 1670 at the Manufacture des Gobelins, and it was then transported to Versailles and installed and gilded the following year.

Apollo 16 (April 16 – 27, 1972) was the tenth crewed mission in the United States Apollo space program, administered by NASA, and the fifth and next-to-last to land on the Moon. It was the second of Apollo's "J missions", with an extended stay on the lunar surface, a focus on science, and the use of the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV).

The mission was crewed by Commander John Young, Lunar Module Pilot Charles Duke and Command Module Pilot Ken Mattingly. Launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on April 16, 1972, Apollo 16 experienced a number of minor glitches en route to the Moon. These culminated with a problem with the spaceship's main engine that resulted in a six-hour delay in the Moon landing as NASA managers contemplated having the astronauts abort the mission and return to Earth, before deciding the problem could be overcome. Although they permitted the lunar landing, NASA had the astronauts return from the mission one day earlier than planned.

My brother's cat Apollo with his Christmas present finally opened for him: from then on he had a starring role as the catnip impregnated toys inside drove him to behaviour rooted in total ecstasy. None of us had ever seen a cat under the influence of catnip and the results were a revelation. Our early family Christmas was occasioned by Dave's family's impending departure to Finland in the small hours of Boxing Day. Apollo is blissfully unaware of his own impending departure to the cattery...

Critiques/tips/thoughts welcome. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to shooting, and I only know the very basics of Lightroom.
