My dad - a real live "rocket" scientist - was one of designers of the reaction control thrusters for the Apollo mission. I found these commemorative pins and stamps among his things when cleaning out my parents house after my mom passed away in 2020.

I decided to redress my Isul Apollo this past weekend but was kind of appalled by my lack of boy clothes, I eventually found a pair of pants to fit him (Grell's) but I failed to find him a shirt. One of my friends saw him shirtless and decided all he really needed to complete his new look was Melissa's hat. Couldn't resist taking a few pics him haha.

This is Apollo. Apollo is Trees for Tomorrow’s (Eagle River, Wisconsin) resident Red-Tailed Hawk. My wife and I met him during Tod Sterling’s {educator at TFT} excellent Wisconsin’s Birds of Prey Program in February of 2019. Apollo, due to his damaged left eye, is a permanent resident of the School. With No depth perception, he cannot catch food in the wild.

His hand finally through the bloody ALUS,

He will be unable to protect himself by sea,

Between two rivers he will fear the military hand,

The black and angry one will make him repent of it.

This isn't a good picture or anything - but still special to me after I read that this butterfly is an endangered species, so I wanted to share. I think I never saw it before, tried to take a pic (and there was an electrical fence between us) and before I could get any closer it flew away. Anyway - I'm glad to have seen it :)

Sorting out the attic, I recently came across my Astronauts' autograph collection from the 1970s, including the first and last men to set foot on the moon (Armstrong and Cernan). Most of the autographs are 'Autopen' - a machine-made copy of the real signature, but a couple of them are personalised, so maybe they are real signatures. Bottom centre is Neil Armstrong's on a piece of card. I have autographs for all the astronauts who flew from Apollo 7 to 15.

Temple of Apollo, Didyma (Didim), Turkey. A temple from antiquity, where also the oracle of Didyma was. It has been shaken several times by earthquakes. Nevertheless, the ruins are still very impressive.

Apollo and Daphne is a life-sized Baroque marble sculpture by Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini, executed between 1622 and 1625. Housed in the Galleria Borghese in Rome, the work depicts the climax of the story of Apollo and Daphne (Phoebus and Daphne) in Ovid's Metamorphoses.

Overwhelmed with passion for the nymph Daphne, Apollo chases her, but she doesn’t reciprocate the god’s feelings and calls on her father, the river Peneus, to save her by transforming her into something that would put her out of Apollo’s advances. Her father obeys and turns her into a laurel tree. Bernini carved the exact moment when Apollo catches up to Daphne and she begins her metamorphosis into a tree. The terrified expression on her face is a counterpoint to the delicacy of her fingers that are transforming into intricate and highly detailed leaves. [Five must see sculptures]
