It is the scenery of the wholesale market.

The dreaded 'telling off'! 'Standing *on the pavement* just taking the tiniest sliver of this building, suddenly this security guard rocks up and tells me to stop photographing. Urgh.

I know he actually couldn't stop me, but I'm weak and anxious, so we packed up straight away. Still, I can't help but think, "Jeez, just deal with it, building-owner."

Anyway... I'm unusually pleased with the dust spots to the left of the frame... they work with the slightly brighter side of the building. It could almost be deliberate, rather than complete laziness.

TWO BILLION LIGHT-YEARS OF LONELINESS

Human beings on a small sphere

Sleep, get up, and work

And sometimes they want pals from Mars

Martians on a small sphere

What they're doing, I don't know

(Or if they are neriri-ing, kiruru-ing and harara-ing )

But sometimes they want pals from Earth

That much I know

Universal gravitation is

The power of loneliness that pulls things towards each other

The universe is distorted

Therefore, we all desire each other

The universe is steadily expanding

Therefore, everyone is anxious

Facing two billion light-years of loneliness,

I sneezed in spite of myself

Anxiously anticipating some monsoon action … hopefully tonight.

Thousands of people, mainly representatives of Berlin’s Russian population, met on 9 May 2020 at the Soviet Memorial in Treptower Park, marking 75 years since the Nazis' unconditional surrender. From the early hours of the morning until late in the evening, they commemorated the end of World War II and the countless victims of this devastating war.

There are hardly any veterans left who could tell about their wartime experiences. In the meantime, their grandchildren have taken over the conductorship in these celebrations, some of them with touching gratefulness and respect, some others in a rather playful tune. But there are also several illustrious and disconcerting individuals and groups who, under the guise of commemoration, are spreading nationalist, history-distorting and war-glorifying slogans. In the emotionally charged memory of a day when peace returned to Europe, they scatter the seeds of new conflicts and confrontations.

My photo story "Victory Day" documents an experience between emotion and scepticism, between grateful remembrance and exuberant party atmosphere.

I've been anxious to get back on my good computer to work on this one. This was dusk on the very first night of my little fall foliage roadtrip. I just got back tonight. This first night was one of the greatest dusk skies I have EVER seen! No fancy Photoshop work here. This is practically straight out of the camera. This was a little south of Silverton. It was a 30 second exposure, so, it was just about completely dark when I shot this. I thought I was done shooting for the night when I stumbled upon this scene.

The morning commute on New Jersey Transit -- a commuter rail line into Manhattan.

I was anxiously watching the tracking on this one after it hadn’t been seen for four days after leaving a postal facility in Connecticut, but it finally showed up. I’ll have to figure him in with the other space people.

After just three hours of sack time Thursday night this photo was as complicated as I was going to get.

Winter snows accent the scene at Horseshoe Bend in Marble Canyon, with sunset light reflecting in the Colorado River almost one thousand feet below, near Page, Arizona.

The title here suggests why I chose this perspective rather than the traditional leaning the camera over the edge view showing the entire bending of the river below in the foreground. I had been to Horseshoe Bend before some years ago in dry, uncrowded conditions, and I had crouched and leaned over the edge only to realize that, at that time, I did not have a wide enough lens for the scene. In the passing years, however, I have noticed an increasing concern when right at the edge of cliffs without any rail. And this time, with snow and ice all along the canyon rim, and seeing several tourists slipping and falling (thankfully without serious incident) as they walked on the slickrock a little ways back from the ledge, I found myself even more strongly wanting a composition that could be taken just a little further back form the precipice than the usual shot requires.

So this is it. I tried to position a couple of the snow covered outcrops to be something of leading lines in to the frame, but I readily admit that choosing this comp wasn’t about doing cutting edge work—it was about keeping a little icy remove between me and that edge!.

This is another image from the past week’s photography trip to the southwest with good friends Josh Krasner and Sky Matthews. Thanks again for viewing!
