The Ipanema beach in Rio de Janeiro became popular worldwide after the famous song “The Girl from Ipanema” was released in 1962. The song was written by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes sitting at their favourite restaurant table seeing Helo Pinheiro cross the street walking to the beach daily.

by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Newton Mendonca.

Se você disser que eu desafino, amor

Saiba que isso em mim provoca imensa dor

Só privilegiados tem ouvido igual ao seu

Eu possuo apenas o que Deus me deu

No fundo do peito, bate calado

No peito dos desafinados

Também bate um coração!

Writers: Antonio Carlos Jobim - John Kendricks - Newton Mendonca

If you say my singing is off key my love

You will hurt my feelings don't you see my love

I wish I had an ear like yours

A voice that would behave

But all I have is feelings and a voice gone deaf

You insist my music goes against the rules

But rules were never meant for lovesick fools

I wrote this little song for you but you don't care

Its a crooked song oh but all my love is there

The thing that you would see if you would play your part

Is even if I'm out of tune I have a gentle heart

I took your picture with my trusty rollaflex

And now all I have developed is a complex

Possibly in vain I hope you weaken oh my love

And forget these rigid rules that undermine my dream of

A life of love and music with someone who'll understand

That even though I may be out of tune

When I attempt to say how much I love you

All that matters is the message that I bring

Which is my dear one I love you

Thank you for your visit! Have a wonderful day! ❤️xo

An evocative and eerie sight, the world’s largest salt flat (12,106 sq km) sits at 3653m (11,984ft). When the surface is dry, the salar is a pure white expanse of the greatest nothing imaginable – just blue sky, white ground and you. When there’s a little water, the surface perfectly reflects the clouds and the blue altiplano sky, and the horizon disappears. If you’re driving across the surface at such times, the effect is surreal; it’s hard to believe that you’re not flying through the clouds.

Salar de Uyuni is now a center of salt extraction and processing, particularly around the settlement of Colchani. The estimated annual output of the Colchani operation is nearly 20,000 tons, 18,000 tons of which is for human consumption while the rest is for livestock. And beneath the surface, massive lithium deposits should fuel Bolivia’s economy for the next 100 years.

The three tours:

With its seemingly endless sea of salt and perception-altering landscape, the Salar de Uyuni is truly a once-in-a-lifetime place to experience. On this Salar de Uyuni sunrise tour, we met your guide and made the drive out toward the expansive salt flat, to watch as the Milk Way at 2:30 am. and sun illuminates a setting that borders on the surreal at 6:15.

Photograph yourself in optical illusions as the sun rises higher in the sky and hotel pick-up are all included with the tour.

Covering 4,085 square miles (10,582 square kilometers), the magnificent, mind-bending Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat.

Our sunrise session began at 02:30 a.m. and lasted until 08:30 a.m. when our local guide picked us up from your Uyuni accommodations. The air can be cool there , but the brisk temperatures were worth it for the chance to watch as the sun illuminates the salt field and ignites the sky with color. After the pre-dawn drive and magical sunrise, grabbed my cameras to shoot optical illusions created by the distant horizon. Throughout the tour our guide provided commentary and informative info on the salt flats, and the tour finished back in the town of Uyuni when you were dropped at the front of your hotel.

Statue by Christina Motta of Brazilian musician Antônio Carlos Jobim. Also known as Tom Jobim, composer of "Garota de Ipanema (The Girl from Ipanema).

Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, March 2017.

Best while listening to Tom Jobim, Joäo Gilberto & Stan Getz: The Girl from Ipanema (1964).

If you want to experience an almost lonely Christ the Redeemer Statue on top of Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro you simply have to wait until shortly after sunset. Before sunset there are lots and lots of tourists up there obstracting your view of this huge statue.

For some strange reason this place becomes almost deserted minutes after sunset. Why? I have no idea. It's a lot more interesting and beautiful on Corcovado mountain when almost no one else is around you. And the city lights of Rio make for a fantastic scene as well!

The only negative point might be that you have to hurry to catch the last train down to Cosme Velho station.

Just minutes after I took this shot some of the employee ladies called to get us on the last Corcovado train downhill. We were only 4 tourists left and the train started to descend downward.

At about 1/3 of the track the train suddenly and unexpectedly (before the scheduled intermediate halt) stopped and all lights went out. It was pitch black at night in the Tijuca forest, the windows were all open and one could hear the sounds of some strange animals. In the (not too far) distance one could see the lights of a small favela. Very eerie! After 2 or 3 minutes the train luckily continued its way downhill...

Here is a portrait a head and waist one of one of the Angelic creatures participating in the Bonderam festival held each year in August. This was shot at Piedade in Diwar Island in Goa.

Diwar Island is located in the middle of the Mandovi river and one has to take a ferry to enter this place. I hope no bridge comes up here. If it does, the charm would be all gone.

Clouds build up in late afternoon, prelude to another cloudburst, fulfilling "Águas de Março", composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim.

I know I took this in June of last year but I really wanted to post it this month before March ends. Almost ten years ago, I learned about the song Waters of March and promised myself to memorize the lyrics so I can sing the song like how the pros do. I would play Basia over and over again and wished that I could sing just like her. It's been ten years now and I just smile at myself. I'm giving myself five more years! :) Have a wonderful day, my dear friends!

Left to right from the top, and in no particular order:

U2 - Achtung Baby

Ivy - Apartment Life

Frank Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim

Beck - Midnite Vultures

Monty Python - Live at Drury Lane

John Lee Hooker - Live at Cafe Au Go GO

The Velvet Underground & Nico

Ulrich Schnauss - Far Away Trains Passing By

The Cure - Galore

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Greatest Hits

Bob Marley & the Wailers - Live!

U2 - The Joshua Tree

Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsies

Louis Prima - Capitol Collector's Series

Detroit Cobras - Life, Love & Leaving

B.B. King - Live at the Regal

Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd - Jazz Samba

U2 - Zoo Europa (bootleg from 1993)

Stevie Ray Vaughan - The Sky is Crying

Frank Sinatra - Come Dance With Me!

Oingo Boingo - Farewell

James Brown - 20 All Time Greatest Hits

T-Bone Walker - T-Bone Blues

The Dirtbombs - Ultraglide In Black

Pretty obvious who my favorite band is. I had to leave Zooropa off the list just for the sake of diversity. But if this were a desert island top 25 it would be on there for sure.

Couple of notes:

Picked the Sinatra/Jobim album over Getz/Gilberto, mostly because I am a huge Sinatra fan and a lot of the songs overlap. Plus it is a completely different style of Sinatra than any other album he'd done before, and the uniqueness is what really makes it a great album.

John Lee Hooker Live at Cafe Au Go Go: Just an incredible live set. JLH is backed by The Muddy Waters Band! Yes, Muddy Waters is on this album playing guitar but he never even sings! Also there is Otis Spann on piano.

U2 Zoo Europa: From the August 1993 show in Dublin Ireland. In my opinion it features the best version of "One" out there.

Oingo Boingo Farewell: I was at those shows!

B.B. King: If you want to know what the blues is all about, get this album.

Also, forgot Led Zeppelin II! Not sure what I'd take out though...

Caminho de pedra onde não vai ninguém

Só sei que hoje tenho em mim

Um caminho de pedra no peito também

И тут меня, что называется, прорвало:

A stick, a stone,

It's the end of the road,

It's the rest of a stump,

It's a little alone

It's a sliver of glass,

It is life, it's the sun,

It is night, it is death,

It's a trap, it's a gun

The oak when it blooms,

A fox in the brush,

A knot in the wood,

The song of a thrush

The wood of the wind,

A cliff, a fall,

A scratch, a lump,

It is nothing at all

It's the wind blowing free,

It's the end of the slope,

It's a beam, it's a void,

It's a hunch, it's a hope

And the river bank talks

of the waters of March,

It's the end of the strain,

The joy in your heart

The foot, the ground,

The flesh and the bone,

The beat of the road,

A slingshot's stone

A fish, a flash,

A silvery glow,

A fight, a bet,

The range of a bow

The bed of the well,

The end of the line,

The dismay in the face,

It's a loss, it's a find

A spear, a spike,

A point, a nail,

A drip, a drop,

The end of the tale

A truckload of bricks

in the soft morning light,

The shot of a gun

in the dead of the night

A mile, a must,

A thrust, a bump,

It's a girl, it's a rhyme,

It's a cold, it's the mumps

The plan of the house,

The body in bed,

And the car that got stuck,

It's the mud, it's the mud

Afloat, adrift,

A flight, a wing,

A hawk, a quail,

The promise of spring

And the riverbank talks

of the waters of March,

It's the promise of life

It's the joy in your heart

A stick, a stone,

It's the end of the road

It's the rest of a stump,

It's a little alone

A snake, a stick,

It is John, it is Joe,

It's a thorn in your hand

and a cut in your toe

A point, a grain,

A bee, a bite,

A blink, a buzzard,

A sudden stroke of night

A pin, a needle,

A sting, a pain,

A snail, a riddle,

A wasp, a stain

A pass in the mountains,

A horse and a mule,

In the distance the shelves

rode three shadows of blue

And the riverbank talks

of the waters of March,

It's the promise of life

in your heart, in your heart

A stick, a stone,

The end of the road,

The rest of a stump,

A lonesome road

A sliver of glass,

A life, the sun,

A knife, a death,

The end of the run

And the riverbank talks

of the waters of March,

It's the end of all strain,

It's the joy in your heart.

As canções da canção do amor demais

Lembra que tempo feliz

Ah!

Amarok - An open source linux media player I just stumbled upon. It's made for the KDE desktop. I use Gnome, and I hadn't seen it before.

It is very nice: plays well, without the stream speed/buffering problems I was seeing with Rhythmbox; sends tunes to i-Pods wirelessly; grabs the album cover art off the web; finds lyrics; converts file types, populates audio file tag information automagically; integrates with wikipedia...

edit:

I spoke too soon! The fast-playing mp3s/oggs have returned... it "skips" about every five seconds, I assume because it runs out of the buffer. It's very annoying to listen to. I have found others mentioning this, but no solution.

Any idea how to fix this?
