Alex Muse demonstrating his Shop Savvy Android application. The phone has no SIM card in it, was running on the bar's WiFi and erroneously thinking it was in Manhattan. This has nothing to do with Shop Savvy, but an issue with T-Mobile.
I apologize for the blurry video ( shop with my phone ) and you cannot see how super fast and "snappy" Android is. Lightening fast screen refreshes, page loads - an order of a magnitude faster than any phone I have used.
A Premier Event at Churchill Club tonight
This is from my EVO phone, Canon takes longer to upload. I might post more pictures later.
Some thoughts from the event:
1. Partnership between Xerox and Cisco
2. Xerox emphasis on services and solutions
3. Let’s talk about the economy – Ursula “I thought world was going to end in 2009” “we have a short-term memory as a nation” “we will have a slow recovery within next 2-3 years”
4. Will America maintain its leadership position when it comes to innovation? Ursula – I have concerns. Our secondary education is the best in the world. MIT is the best engineering school in the world. However, our elementary-middle-high school education is really bad in rural areas in America; it is 80% of the country. We need to stop keeping everyone happy. Our goal should not be do not let anybody in every class fail. Our whole education system is main problem when it comes to innovation. Another problem is that most bright students do not go into value add economy, do not innovate but many of them went to make money at Investment banks, worked with derivatives and the last were nothing but nothing. Our young generation does not have the right values; they are focused on making money fast.
5. Innovation networks: innovators, transformers, bankers, brokers. If you do not have strength in all areas, partner with those who do.
6. You cannot be wrong 100% of the time, everybody is wrong from time to time, if you wrong most of the time, you are incompetent and I will fire you.
7. If you can tune people, you can already bit the average guy – and you might not have Steve Jobs as your CEO, you might not have the best strategy.
8. George Colony – cloud is a transition, after Moore’s law there is Hitachi’s law – faster growth in the storage than in computing 1.2 years (?)
Here is his blog, he mentioned some new paradigm after cloud computing and web – blogs.forrester.com/george_colony/10-08-27-app_internet_n...
"Two ways of computing have dominated over the past 20 years. The first I'll call the "Microsoft model" -- where local personal computers do most of the work. The second model is the Web/Cloud model, in which most of the work happens on remote servers. Both are outmoded. The Microsoft model fails to leverage the economies of scale in the Cloud; Web/Cloud fail to leverage the exponential growth in the power of local storage and processors.
So what comes next? Something I call the "App Internet." In this model, powerful local devices (PCs, smartphones, tablets) run applications that simultaneously and seamlessly take advantage of resources in the Web/Cloud. If you want to see this model in action, check out iPhone and Android applications.
What does the App Internet mean? The Web, as the dominant software architecture of the Internet, is dead -- for once I'll agree with Chris Anderson over at Wired. The information within App Internet is not easily searchable -- so Google is set for a long fade. Microsoft's deer-in-the-headlights act continues as it sucks the last dollars from a device-centric Office. Apple continues to cruise -- the company is right at the App Internet sweet spot. Facebook faces danger because it is too Web-centric -- note that the company still hasn't shipped an iPad app. Newcomers like Flipboard, who can elegantly repurpose old Web content like Facebook into the App Internet world, will boom -- a lot of cool new companies will occupy this space. Some of the players in the software-as-a-service crowd will sense the change and slide over into App Internet (salesforce.com?) -- but a bunch will stay too long at the Web party and get slaughtered. AT&T and Verizon get more bits to carry -- their problem will be delivering enough bandwidth to keep up with the demands of the new model."

Emphasis on female leadership, promoting a culture without glass ceiling for women
I was probably the only employee from my company at the event, I have met another lady who works for a different division at Hitachi. Cisco is rather well represented at Churchill, I have met one senior person from Cisco, a few CEOs of different start-ups and one angel investor.

Only Lightroom was used to process the image, which included the usual adjustments for white balance and levels before applying gradient or radial filters along with Contrast Curve, Sharpening and Clarity presets.
The exotic world of Arabic fairy tales lets you immerse yourself in the myth and lore that inspired countless European folk tales and fairy stories. Arabian folk tales initiate the reader into mysterious kingdoms of untold wealth and unmatched beauty. They contain tales of genies and goblins, talking animals and heroic princes and princesses that charm and delight. Arabic folk tales circulated orally for thousands of years and are rooted in ancient and medieval culture and folklore including Egyptian, Persian, Indian and Mesopotamian influence.
Arabic fairy tales were a source of entertainment and not tales for moral lessons and religious custom, unlike their European counterparts. The fairy tales are robust with themes of romance and magic that offered countless evenings of entertainment, and inspired a rich culture of fables, epic poems, historical anecdotes, songs and dance that have circulated the world over.

As the Android application recognizes and reads the code, it displays the result, which in this case is a text string: AMBER CODE...as my Second Life experiment stemmed from a conversation with Amber Case.

My desk where I am currently fixing some bugs in my temperature measuring gizmo code (Javascript on the Tessel).
Other stuff on my desk. From left:
Echo Audiofire2. A digital audio interface that I originally bought for an old laptop so that I could get great sound quality and MIDI in/out for small music projects. My main soundcard, so to say, for the computer right now. But not functioning correctly because it is not supported by Mac OS X 10.10. Bummer.
Nexus 4: My previous mobile phone running vanilla Android 4.4.4. Set up for various Android application projects that I intend to do.
Tessel: The latest gizmo I bought for various fun electronic/javascript projects. Right now it measures temperature and humitidy but it can also measure sound and light. Perfect for projects like starting Spotify when the sun rises or so. Normally its not connected to the computer but to a regular power outlet by the balcony door where it executes more autonomously via wifi.
Raspberry Pi: Small micro computer in a black case. Running Raspbian, a Linux distro for such small devices. Last christmas I played with some electronics and the Python language on this device. Feels like it could become a christmas tradition. It has got a camera as well, not showing here.
Tessel sticker just laying around waiting to be sticked onto something.
Mac Mini: My stationary computer with a portable DVD player on top (the Mac Mini has no DVD slot).

The concept of brick-and-mortar retail business has altered greatly with the rise of E-Commerce apps. Customers do not need to stand in long queues anymore; they can browse through the product catalogs from the comfort of their home and take a purchase decision.
If you are concentrating on Android app development to give a boost to your E-Commerce business, it is a good move. Most smartphone users prefer Android apps as Android is quite user-friendly. Hence, your business can reach to a wider audience with Android application development.
Yet, there are some factors that can decide the cost of your E-Commerce Android app development, even though you do not invest in building a website:
• Nature of Apps: If you ask any Android app developer, they will always tell you to go for native apps for E-Commerce business initiatives. Native apps based on Android have personalized features that make it easy for your consumers to interact with the app. The cost of native Android app development, however, would be on the higher side than Hybrid or web apps.
• Domain Expertise of the Developer: An E-Commerce Android application development requires knowledge of a wide array of development tools from the Android app developers. Rather than going for an individual, it is always better if you go for any company like HokuApps offering Android app development services with a pool of talented developers. Only an expert developer would know how to keep your app small (less memory consumption) and flexible at the same time.
• App Functionality: E-Commerce apps generally demand more complicated features because it needs to strike a neat balance between product graphics and content. Some of the app features that can drive your Android app development costs are in-app purchasing, registration, social media integration, and database infrastructure development.
• App Design: Everyone wants an app that looks good, sells well and fetches more revenue. However, it can considerably increase the Android application development cost. An E-Commerce app with swift UX/UI design can really get your customers hooked on the app, but it would require significant investment.
In addition to these factors, you also need to consider the cost of application testing and software license to get the right estimation for your E-Commerce app development.

The exotic world of Arabic fairy tales lets you immerse yourself in the myth and lore that inspired countless European folk tales and fairy stories.
