The downpour causes the rainwater to flow down the gradient in quantal wavefronts swapping over the fill-in flashed bicycle sign in the foreground of the asphalt road.

Image was taken in the Allee der Kosmonauten which is a dual carriageway laid out in the 70ties. The strip that divides the roads for the automobiles contains railways for streetcars bound for opposite directions.

A few years ago one of the two roadways was constricted by the depicted bicycle path which is in real life much smaller than it appears in this photo.

Radverkehrsanlagen @ Stadtentwicklung Berlin

Choriner wird Fahrradstraße@prenzlberger stimme by ODK, 21. Oktober 2010 ...

Town Sq.

Adel, IA (Dallas County)

Designed by the Iowa firm of W. T. Proudfoot and George Bird, the Dallas County Courthouse was constructed in 1902 at a cost of $109,243.00. Since that time, local residents have delighted in the building's similarity to the French Chateau Azay-le-Rideau at Indre-et-Loire, west of Tours. A sixteenth century building, built to the specifications of Francis I by his chief treasurer, Gilles Berthelot. The chateau was reputedly the direct source of inspiration for designer George Bird. Proudfoot and Bird also designed the Salt Lake City Courthouse in Utah and the Polk County Courthouse in Iowa. Still in very good condition and used for its original purpose, the Dallas County Courthouse continues to present a distinguished and prominent profile for the enjoyment of residents for miles around. I'm sharing here on Flickr a (long) series of photos, taken in early August this year, during a short vacation in Calabria, at a holiday village located near a beach I've been frequenting with my family for several years now, during our short summer vacations. The setting, however, is very different from the beaches I normally frequent near my home in Taormina, with very crowded beaches and a sea that is also very popular with yachtsmen of all kinds. In this part of Calabria, the beaches are rarely crowded (except on weekends, but not too much). In short, it's a sort of almost tropical paradise, with very little yachting. Adjacent to the holiday village is a kitesurfing club, very popular with enthusiasts of this wonderful sport, which thrives on the sea and the wind. I photographed an 84-year-old kitesurfer, whose mettle is steely, still giving athletes much younger than him a run for their money. A friendly and sweet horsewoman from the nearby stables arrived unexpectedly in the beach village, accompanied by her father, both astride two magnificent colts. This created a moment of joy and curiosity for both the parents and their little ones, who were likely seeing these magnificent and docile animals up close and personal for the first time. Unexpectedly, a very special party broke out on the beach. Seeing it made me feel like I was no longer in Calabria, but rather transported to the other side of the globe, to the Hindu festival called Holi, with its throwing of colored powders (in India, this festival marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring, as well as symbolizing the victory of good over evil). I know it thanks to the evocative photographs often published on various photography websites.

I'll end by briefly mentioning the photographic technique I've often used in my photographs. I've created "blur" photographs—blurry, slightly blurry, and unfocused—at the time of shooting, simply by lengthening the exposure time and then also using some panning. Finally, I'd like to thank the sweet and beautiful models who posed for me, allowing me to further enhance this (long-winded) photographic story.

………………………………………………………………………..

**Stephens County Courthouse** - National Register of Historic Places Ref # 80001232, date listed 9/18/1980

Courthouse Sq.

Toccoa, GA (Stephens County)

Built in 1908.

The Ionic tetrastyle portico is pedimented, with an oculus in the center of the pediment, and the name 'Stephens County' is on the entablature. The cross plan of the two story building with basement has corner pavilions that project from a center core. The whole structure has an octagonal ribbed dome with hooded clocks (E. Howard clock) and a lantern. The dome rises from a square base and on the second stage directly under the clocks has arched windows enclosed by coupled pilasters and a pediment. This motif is repeated around the dome and echoes the design of the main facade. Today it still towers over the town and is very near the new downtown shopping mall. (1)

**Cripple Creek Historic District** - National Register of Historic Places Ref # 66000939, date listed 10/15/1966

Rt. 67

Cripple Creek, CO (Teller County)

A National Historic Landmark (www.nps.gov/subjects/nationalhistoriclandmarks/list-of-nh...).

The Cripple Creek-Victor mining district was founded late in comparison to other Colorado mining towns. Though gold had been found as early as 1874, it was not until Bob Womack's discovery in Poverty Gulch, after 15 years of unsuccessful prospecting, that the area became interesting to other prospectors. The city of Cripple Creek was officially incorporated in 1892. For sometime after the town sprang up, progress was slow as there was not a great influx of miners into the district. In 1891 the population was less than 500, in 1892 about 2,500, but between that time and 1900 the population had grown to more than 25,000 in Cripple Creek and in excess of 55,000 in the district.

The first town was constructed primarily of wood. In 1896 a fire started in a local dance hall. This fire leveled 15 acres of the town. Only four days later the town was completely razed by another fire. The subsequent town was then constructed of brick and a number of these structures remain today. Though few of these structures are outstanding in themselves, they are indicative of the historic fabric of the town. (1)

**Sedalia Public Library** - National Register of Historic Places Ref # 80002389, date listed 1/10/1980

311 W. 3rd St.

Sedalia, MO (Pettis County)

Sedalia Public Library is significant as the first public library in the State of Missouri to receive a Carnegie grant for construction of a library building (Bobinski, Appendix). In addition, the building subsequently constructed is an outstanding example in this state of the Greek Revival Style and was designed by the noted architectural firm of Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge.

D.H. Smith (owner of D.H. Smith Hardware Co., and Director of the Third National Bank) undertook to contact Andrew Carnegie, with whom he had had some business contact. Carnegie agreed to donate $50,000 for the construction of the building, on the conditions that Sedalia would provide a suitable site and an annual maintenance of 8 per cent, or $4,000. Sedalia was especially favored because Carnegie usually required an annual maintenance equal to 10 percent of the original grant, which in itself was fairly large for a city the size of Sedalia. A special election was held in February, 1900, to increase the tax levy from one-half mill to one mill, in order to meet the annual maintenance requirement. This levy passed by an overwhelming majority.

The present site was selected from a list of nine, on property owned by Emil and George Bichsel and Frederick W. Phipps. Property owners in the neighborhood contributed $2,500 of the $8,000 purchase price, and on 4 April 1900 the deed was presented to the Library Board. (1)

**Falling Creek Methodist Church and Cemetery** - National Register of Historic Places Ref # 96000359, date listed 4/4/1996

FL 131, 6 mi. NW of Lake City

Lake City, FL (Columbia County)

The present frame church and its furnishings were designed and built by church members c.1885. T.J. Summerall built the pulpit and donated a pump organ. In 1878, Summerall had been paid to build a bridge at Blount's Ferry, indicating his engineering ability and possible contribution to the project. The stone pier foundations and pine lumber used in the construction of the church were local materials. The two main doors on the easterly elevation are reminders of the common custom for men and women to enter, and sit on opposite sides of the church.

At the time the church was established, between 1853 and 1866, the population of the entire Columbia County was 4,646, of which 2,062 were slaves. The county's current population is approximately 49,000.

A cemetery containing approximately 60 graves, of which 42 are marked, is located behind the church, to the west. The cemetery has been used by the community, including people not connected with the church. The earliest legible, dated tombstone, is that of Elizabeth Mole, 1841-1871, a member of the 1853 wagon train. (1)

**Hooker County Courthouse** - National Register of Historic Places Ref # 89002218, date listed 1/10/1990

Cleveland Ave. between Railroad and 1st Sts.

Mullen, NE (Hooker County)

Built in 1912, the Hooker County Courthouse is an good, intact example of the Property Type, County Citadel. The courthouse has features uncommon for Nebraska courthouses, such as Chicago Style windows, yet carries a number of elements that reveal it to be a county courthouse.

Hooker County is located in west central Nebraska in the heart of the Sand Hills. As such, it was not settled until the 1880s when settlers established cattle ranches in the area. A factor in spurring settlement was construction of a railroad through the county in 1887, a line connecting Billings, Montana with St. Louis.

In 1889, two years after rail construction, county residents successfully petitioned to organize the county, and elections were held the same year. The present county seat, Mullen, was and is the only town in the county. It was platted in 1888 at a site one mile west from the present location, likely in expectation of receiving rail service. However, the town founder apparently refused to sell enough land to the railroad for rail yards, and the company placed its depot grounds at the present site. The original Mullen failed to thrive without rail connections.

For the sum of one dollar , the county acquired the present courthouse site. County officials built a small one-story wood frame courthouse and a separate jail in 1889. (1)

The salute has also been known as the clenched fist or closed fist. Additionally, different movements sometimes use different terms to describe the raised fist salute: amongst communists and socialists it is sometimes called the red salute, whereas amongst black rights activists, especially in the United States of America it has been called the black power salute. During the Spanish Civil War, it was sometimes known as the anti-fascist salute.

The clenched fist gesture is sometimes thought to have originated in the Spanish Civil War. A letter from the Spanish Civil War explained: “ ...the raised fist which greets you in Salud is not just a gesture—it means life and liberty being fought for and a greeting of solidarity with the democratic peoples of the world." ”

Ernst Thälmann Memorial in Ziegenhals demolished

Just a quick mock-up of what these characters could potentially look like, although they way information has been released would imply that the film makers are going for a more 'comic' look. I certainly prefer the down-to-Earth nature of DC's recent films (and TV series) and it differentiates it from Marvel.

Wonder Woman is based on this

I'd go down-to-earth over comic anyday but that's my opinion. I'd just like a realistic batmobile. That is all.

This is also the last of my little upload spree. 'Pic of the Day' has actually been daily for a time! Can you believe it?

The Jaeckel Hotel is significant in terms of the architectural, commercial, and local history of Statesboro. Few historic buildings have touched the lives of so many people in this city as has the Jaeckel Hotel. For many years, it was the hub of social and commercial life in the community. Built in 1905, it was among the largest and most impressive buildings in the county seat, the boast of Statesboro, "the best hotel, with all modern improvements, to be found in any city of her size in this section of the state." **Rock Island Depot** - National Register of Historic Places Ref # 96000978, date listed 9/23/1996

201 S. Bridge Rd.

Grandfield, OK (Tillman County)

The Rock Island Depot in Grandfield, Oklahoma, built in 1920, is constructed of wood with a concrete foundation that has a full basement. Built in a vernacular interpretation of the Tudor Revival style, the building's exterior is sheathed in weatherboard with wood surrounds around the windows and doors. The steeply pitched roof is cross-gabled sheathed in asphalt shingles and has wide, over-hanging eaves.

The second depot to be built in Grandfield, the construction of the building was accomplished through the solicitation of hopeful citizens, who proclaimed Grandfield as the "Hub of the Big Pasture.” Constructed during a time when the town was experiencing a population boom brought on by the discovery of large oil fields in the area and successful agricultural harvests, the depot represented the town's growing need for links with distant markets. It is the only extant depot in this town in southwestern Oklahoma. (1)

**Ramsey Park Swayback Bridge** - National Register of Historic Places Ref # 80002144, date listed 8/11/1980

Ramsey Park

Redwood Falls, MN (Redwood County)

The Ramsey Park Swayback Bridge (1938) is one of scores of structures constructed by WPA crews in state parks during the late 1930s and early 1940s. It is the only known bridge so constructed utilizing the functional swayback design.

The structure is significant as a uniquely designed WPA constructed bridge. Even though it is only forty years old at the time of this nomination, recognition is important to insure retention of its integrity as plans for bridge remodeling and replacement are being considered.

The bridge's design, consistent with its wooded setting, is based primarily on functional requirements. During frequent spring high waters, the dip in the bed permits tree branches and other debris carried by the river to flow across the center section of the structure, avoiding a jam which could force the stream around the end abutments and undermine the bridge approaches. Constructed at a cost of $52,120.00 in 1891-92 by S.J. Hoban according to designs by architect C.S. Dunham, the Faribault County Courthouse is an excellent example of the Richardsonian Romanesque influence on design of late nineteenth century public buildings. With the exception of a few modifications, the building has retained original design integrity and is well maintained and preserved. (1)

this is fingering weight yarn on a D hook to make a doll sized shawl. Would also work nicely (maybe fewer repeats) for SD size. MSD would probably come out fine with lace weight and a C hook? I'll try that eventually.

………………………………………………………………………
