GARCINHA GARÇA BRANCA PEQUENA
A garça branca pequena é uma bela ave aquática muito encontrada em estado selvagem na região Amazônica, vivendo em áreas próximas ao mar, rios e lagos.
Este animal tem hábito diurno, alimenta-se de forma ativa caçando pequenos anfíbios, repteis, peixes, insetos e moluscos.
Suas principais características físicas são:
•Mede cerca de 45 cm.
•Entre os olhos e a base do bico apresenta uma faixa amarela.
•O bico é longo e negro.
•As pernas são pretas, mas os pés e dedos são sempre amarelos.
•As íris dos olhos são amarelas.
•O macho e a fêmea de garças brancas pequenas possuem penas alongadas na nuca, têm aparência semelhante, sem dismorfismo sexual: possuem penas brancas cobrindo todo corpo, inclusive seu longo pescoço e apenas no período de reprodução produzem lindas plumas especiais chamadas egretes.
Na época do acasalamento reúnem-se em bandos. Os casais constroem o ninho de gravetos, sobre árvores, em colônias, formando ninhais com outras espécies de aves. As fêmeas colocam de 4 a 6 ovos esverdeados, azulados ou brancos. Os pais se revezam nos cuidados com a prole. Os ovos são chocados por cerca de 27 dias. Os filhotes são nidícolas: nascem cegos e sem penas. O casal cuida das crias enquanto estão no ninho e aprendem a voar.
A garça branca pequena voa com o pescoço retraído e as pernas esticadas, onde se destaca claramente os pés amarelos.
Seu comportamento, durante a pesca, é correr nas margens, ou passar um dos pés sobre a água, tentando atrair os peixes.
