This special kind of Water Lily has the scientific name of Victoria Amazonica.

It is an aquatic plant of the Nymphaeaceae family, typical of the Amazon region. It has a large circle-shaped leaf that sits on the surface of the water, and can reach up to 2.5 meters in diameter and can withstand up to 40 kilos if well distributed on its surface.

Its flower (flowering from early March to July) can be white, lilac, purple, pink and even yellow, it expels a sweet nocturnal fragrance of the apricot, called by the Europeans of "lacustrine rose", remains open until the early the next morning.

At Pantanal, Mato Grosso, Brasil - Male - The Amazon Kingfisher is a resident of lakeshores and large-slow flowing rivers from northern Mexico south to central Argentina. They are large dark bronzy green birds with a ragged crest, a white throat and collar, and a white belly; the breast of the male is rufous, while the female has a narrower green breastband. Amazon Kingfishers are superficially similar to the Green Kingfisher Chloroceryle americana, but are much larger with a heavier bill, and typically forage from more conspicuous perches. Amazon Kingfishers hunt fish and crustaceans from a perch, diving into the water to catch their prey and then returning to the same perch before stunning their prey and swallowing it head first. These kingfishers also occasionally hover above the water before diving to catch prey. The nests are excavated by making tunnels into road cuts or erosion gullies near water.

Not the bookshop - the ancient female warrior. This is the head of what was once a full figure of a wounded amazon. This you cannot tell from just this head, of course, but this is a Roman copy (from ca 150 A.D. - made of marble) of an older statue which was quite popular. So with just this head, you can tell what original this was a copy of. And hence which motif it was. There was no mass-production back in the day, as we know it, but that did not mean everything existed in just one copy.

The Amazon rainforest is currently experiencing a significant increase in wildfires, with 9,000 fires burning simultaneously across Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Peru. The fires are largely set intentionally to clear land for cattle ranching, farming, and logging, and have been exacerbated by the dry season. The number of fires is an 80% increase over the same period last year. The Amazon is often called "the lungs of the world," absorbing greenhouse gases that would otherwise harm the planet. The fires are destroying the homes of indigenous tribes, threatening millions of animals, and even darkening the skies over major cities. The impact of the fires on the Amazon's biodiversity will be significant, with between 40,000 and 73,400 square miles of the rainforest impacted by fires since 2001, affecting 95% of all Amazonian species and as many as 85% of species that are listed as threatened in this region.

A igarape is a watercourse Amazon water first, second or third order, consisting of a long arm river or channel. They exist in large numbers in the Amazon Basin. Characterized by shallow and almost run into the forest. Only small boats such as canoes and small boats, can navagar by the waters of a stream due to its shallow depth and be narrow.

The word was adopted from the Tupi. Literally means "canoe route" through the junction of ygara terms (canoe) and loveto (path)

Amazonian streams are an integral and essential part in the functioning of the forest, because they work as ecological corridors, linking forest fragments and facilitating displacement of wildlife and gene flow between populations of species of animals and plants.

Um igarapé é um curso d'água amazônico de primeira, segunda ou terceira ordem, constituído por um braço longo de rio ou canal. Existem em grande número na Bacia amazônica. Caracterizam-se pela pouca profundidade e por correrem quase no interior da mata. Apenas pequenas embarcações, como canoas e pequenos barcos, podem navagar pelas águas de um igarapé devido a sua baixa profundidade e por ser estreito.

A palavra foi adotada do tupi. Significa, literalmente, "caminho de canoa", através da junção dos termos ygara (canoa) e apé (caminho)

Características:-

A maioria dos igarapés tem águas escuras semelhantes às do Rio Negro, um dos principais afluentes do Rio Amazonas, transportando poucos sedimentos. São navegáveis por pequenas embarcações e canoas e desempenham um importante papel como vias de transporte e comunicação.

Os igarapés amazônicos constituem parte integrante e essencial no funcionamento da floresta, pois funcionam como corredores ecológicos, ligando fragmentos florestais e facilitando deslocamento da fauna e o fluxo gênico entre as populações das espécies de animais e vegetais.
