Allow nature to teach you stillness.

The western facade is the widest (41 meters) among those of all the Gothic buildings in France. It is made up of two towers of unequal heights, the north tower having been rebuilt after its collapse in 1506. Five portals allow access to the interior, all with double doors, and correspond exactly to the five naves. Their sculptures are particularly remarkable. The central portal offers a scene of the Last Judgment of great quality of execution. The square giving access to this facade is however narrow.

One of the favorite emulsions is Foma Retropan 320, especially when it comes to shooting grasses. Even with fast exposures, the grass seems to have some movement.

Part of this is due to the depth of field, but a lot of just goes to the grain structure of the film.

Except that this isn't Retropan, it's regular old Fomapan 100. The trick here is the developer. Normally, I use Retro Special for Foma 100. It tends to be a bit contrasty, but I like the look, generally.

Foma 100 in this developer leans towards the softer look of Retropan. And with a yellow filter, it allows me to shoot it at 50iso or even 25! This means shooting wide open (or closer to it).

Typically, with this developer, the lighter grays are a bit more spread out, but the sky here was pretty bright and I probably didn't meter as well as I should.

Even though it was taken in the middle of the day. The stormy weather allowed for a longer exposure which smoothed out the water and brought out the colour in the water.

PTC cutover is looming on the Pittsburgh Line, spelling the doom for the Pennsylvania Railroad's position light signals guarding the line. Every interlocking east of Altoona has a set of replacement "vader" signals next to the position lights. Intermediate signals do not - once PTC comes in, they'll disappear without a replacement. However, this allows for some unobstructed views of these old signals before they fall. Here at milepost 146, NS Y90 ducks under one of the few remaining signal bridges east of Altoona on the old Middle Division, located just west of Thompsontown.

C-FUOC, a Bombardier DHC-8-402 Q400, touching down on runway 33 at Downsview Airport in Toronto, Ontario. Serial number 4562 became LX-LQJ with Luxair S.A. at Sandweiler, Luxembourg.

These odd ducks hiss instead of quack, have clawed feet (which allow them to move easily on land, as well as roost and nest in trees), and distinctive lumpy red patches of skin on their faces. Muscovy ducks originating from a wild, tropical duck species, native to Central America and South America, and are the only domesticated duck not derived from the wild mallard.

Muscovies were intentionally introduced into the U.S. in the mid-1960s, to “enhance aesthetics” of urban parks. These large ducks are also popular farm animals (for their eggs and as food), and sometimes escape or are released illegally. As they clearly appreciate our sub-tropical climate, large self-sustaining feral populations formed in Florida, and can be found living alongside urban and suburban lakes, ponds and canals throughout the state.

The distinctive red lumps on Muscovy faces are named carnucles. They are fleshy outgrowths on bird faces, often used by males to attract mates. Muscovy carnucles might indeed serve this purpose, as females have smaller patches than males. Their carnucles, however, also contain oil glands. And by rubbing the oil released from the carnucles over their feathers during preening, they clean and waterproof them.

The grevillea bush, which my graceful model chose, was located in a place that allowed for some unconventional captures.

This parakeet pair seemed intent on sticking their heads into opposite portholes as far as they could go. I suppose they were eating but it rather looked like they were conversing intently as there was quite a lot of quiet continual chattering going on. I think meeting one other person out of doors is allowed in our tier . I just hope there isn't any bird 'flu around.

I found out just how difficult it is getting a (detailed) shot of these guys. Around feeders it isn't easy but when they are darting around a patch of flowers it can be quite the pain in the...

Took me about 30 minutes and a lot of bad language to get this imperfect shot.

And bed it IS! He may look uneasy because they are not really allowed on this old satin bedspread, but for today-

Christian testimonies | What Allows Me to Regain a Happy Life?

This is an age when people care very much about physical attractiveness and a good looking body. With a beautiful face and a slim figure, I turned heads no matter what kind of clothes I wore. People around me often praised me and envied that I had both a great figure and a great face, and my husband was also very kind to me. Because of this, I was especially confident. No matter where I went, I walked with my head held high and my back straight. I displayed myself to receive praise from others. In my heart I believed: As long as a woman has a graceful figure and a pretty face, she could rewrite her own life.

Like many empires, the Ottoman Empire applied a policy of indirect rule for the territories they had conquered. This allowed them to hold the indigenous administration responsible for failures of policy. The middleman between the Ottoman authority and the non-Muslim population was the Dragoman. In Cyprus the Dragoman used to be a Christian of the Greek-Orthodox tradition. Being a high official, the Dragoman was able to amass great wealth, but was also in constant danger of losing the support of either the Christians or the Ottoman authority. The mansion of Dragoman Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios (beheaded in 1809) in Nicosia (now a museum) reflects the importance of his political function and also the typical style of an official building of the Ottoman Empire (a large inner yard with its own water supply and hamam, the bath). I geeked out hard watching this solo old GE throttle up. It was easy to spot the dimmed headlight and green paint pull up to the signal at A-17+593, just the other side of the tunnel. I knew what was coming and he didn't keep me waiting very long either. Hard to pick out a favorite moment in Mexico, but this might have been it.

I love this one!

People are not actually allowed to get into Laguna Cejar's waters.

Instead, tour agency took us to the adjacent Laguna Piedra, where we could brave the high altitude cold and get into the lukewarm water. We found a current of warm water (heated by the thermal springs), it was actually not uncomfortable.

***

These ponds have a very high salt content, about 33%, far above what we find in the sea, so when entering the water in the water you do not have to make the minimum effort to float. It's the same thing that happens in the Dead Sea, the giant saltwater lake in the Middle East.

You can enter this pond even if you can not swim, as soon as your body is in the water, you will already be floating. In ponds like this you should not dive headfirst. It is also good to avoid wetting the face, especially the eyes and mouth, due to excess salt that can be harmful.

The water in the pond is cold and hot, and this causes some people to give up bathing in it. We go in and we can ensure that after a few seconds in the water you get used to it and the temperature difference is no longer a nuisance.

The bath is refreshing, especially if you are doing a very hot afternoon like the one on the day of our tour. And the float makes the bath more fun and also relaxing, as we do not have to make any effort to stay in the water.

I do have a few other options... but whenever I get a nice portrait of one of my kids, that's always the best pic of the day for me... it's so hard to be objective with my mommy goggles on ;)

Very difficult getting Eric to pose for photos but this time he allowed me to capture him

I shot from Keppel Island which is private but connected by a public bridge. Around the island is a pathway where anyone can walk or jog. The bad news is no photos are allowed except with mobile phone and the paths are heavily patrolled.

Before being told no photos, I was able to get this one. A beautiful view but a security challenge.

This is a 6 portrait shot stitched together. As I shoot with a Sony RX100, I didn’t have the field of view with a single shot to capture everything. Note: The buildings are naturally curved, not a photo artifact.

Thousands of tourists and hundreds of photographers have already taken pictures of this cheese farm at the Zaanse Schans. This is my version at an early morning just before sunrise. And sure I was very happy with the nice reflections. Zaanse Schans, 2021.

Again, I would like to thank everyone for your support, views, faves and comments!

From the website of the Zaanse Schans:

A good old cheese sandwich; it’s what made us so tall! Learn all about the typical Dutch delicacies at Catharina Hoeve, a replica of a traditional farm from Oostzaan. The cheese makers, clad in traditional costumes, will tell you all about the different types of cheese. After all, what exactly is the difference between Gouda, goats and herb cheese? There are daily demonstrations, in 10 different languages, allowing you to see everything that’s involved in producing the cheese. And, of course, you’ll get to taste some of those delicious cheeses. But be warned: a little taste probably won’t be enough for you! That’s why we’ve got all sorts of goodies to buy in the farm shop.

While in the Swinging Bridge Picnic area and a view looking up at a nearby Incense Cedar. My thinking in composing this image was similar in thought to other images I captured looking down a road with something distant as a backdrop. Here I got up close at the cedar tree and looked up, focusing on both the bark as well as the tree crown and skies above. I closed down on the aperture to have more of the complete image in focus. Metering the image was a little more involved in finding an exposure that wouldn't blow any of the highlights in the brighter skies above but still allowed me to pull out the colors and details present in the shadows nearby without having a color cast.

During lockdown I used the allowed hour for walks outside to explore my local area.

Fortunately there is a river only 15mins walk away and I've been hearing kingfishers along it for weeks.

This perch is a favourite spot for them as it overlooks a calm pool of water for fishing. I noticed as it had a load of poo splashed on the leaves below it!

So I left a camera buried in the foliage for a couple of days with a sensor to trigger it, and this was the result... :)

Yesterday morning the world was submerged in mist and allowed me to capture Hamburg’s famous Ellerntors bridge in this this particular mood.

This bridge was the western entrance into the city of Hamburg until the 17th century.

Reedham Swing Bridge, on the site of a Victorian swing bridge, is still in use at Reedham, Norfolk, England.

It carries the Wherry railway line, between Norwich and Lowestoft, across the River Yare near Reedham railway station.

The original single track bridge was commissioned by Sir Samuel Morton Peto in the 1840s to allow the passage of wherry boats, which were too tall to pass under conventional bridges. The current bridge dates from 1902–3 prior to the doubling of the track.

The bridge is operated from the 1904 Reedham Swing Bridge signal box. In a typical year, it is opened 1,300 times.
