The post-war boom in passenger traffic outstripped the availability of buses in the London Area, despite the continued delivery of semi-utility types. Some buses were literally start-ing to fall apart, both pre-war types and some of the more rotten of the utilities. London Transport hired buses and coaches from all and sundry to try to make ends meet until the RT family could take the strain. One source it found was the newly-nationalised Tilling companies, which like LT formed -part of the British Transport Commission. London Transport managed to have diverted some 190 of their new Bristols with new ECW bod-ies, direct from Lowestoft. They came in Tilling red and Tilling green, highbridge and low-bridge. Adorned with LT roundels on their radiators, and London Transport across the top of their wide Route indicators, they made a very welcome contribution to both Central and Country Areas during 1949, before passing on to their proper owners.

Ageing female Red Veined Darter (Sympetrum fonscolombii). Length: 38 to 40 mm. The bright red males and clear yellow-brown females are attractive. The eyes are brown above and blue below and the wing bases are yellow. The pterostigma is yellow to orange strongly outlined in black. The males become a deep red with maturity with red veins on the wings, particularly on the leading edges. The frons and the thorax are red-brown. Females have a ochre yellow abdomen with two black lines along each side. The wing veins are yellow at the costa, leading edge and base. Immature males are coloured as the females but have only a single line along each side of the abdomen. Historically the Red-veined Darter has been regarded as a migrant to the British Isles, with scattered records being documented in most years. Photo taken by Nick Dobbs, Marsaxlokk, Malta 25-10-2025

I think my age must be getting the better of me.
I seem to be uploading a series about the ageing process without being aware of it!

Some survive everything the weather can throw at them better than others.
What a great challenge, Laura and I guess age brings many wonderful things to us all but this couple on the beach reminded me so much of my wife and myself - chilling in the Florida sunshine, relaxing and reading their books.
With age comes the ability to kick back, do a little travel and forget the worries of the world - at least that's what I try to do!!

Despite Ryanair taking delivery of brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8-200s across their various subsidiaries, the eldest Boeing 737-800s operating with the carrier are now approaching 20 years of service, the oldest now past 18 years old... This is despite Ryanair having retired more younger Boeing 737-800s, however most of those examples were leased and aircraft retirement is largely dependent on cycles rather than the age itself.
With Ryanair having since withdrawn all their leased Boeing 737-800s, the carrier will be in the process of withdrawing their older Boeing 737-800s that they directly-own; the retirement will mainly be down to airframes approaching heavy maintenance checks and previously mentioned cycles.
For the examples built between 2004 and mid-2006, Ryanair's Boeing 737-800s originally did arrive without their now standard blended winglets, although those that didn't receive them were subsequently retrofitted by 2007. Another quirk amongst their oldest Boeing 737-800s were their iconic eyebrow windows, although they were subsequently plugged by 2008; it should be noted all new Boeing 737s from 2005 were delivered as standard without eyebrow windows.
Currently, Ryanair Group operates 487 Boeing 737s, which includes one Boeing 737-700 (Ryanair), 409 Boeing 737-800s (234 with Ryanair, 46 with Buzz, 121 with Malta Air (plus 4 due to be re-registered from Ryanair) and 8 with Ryanair UK) and 77 Boeing 737 MAX 8-200s (36 with Ryanair, 13 with Buzz and 28 with Malta Air). Ryanair have 133 Boeing 737 MAX 8-200s on-order.
Delta Charlie Oscar is one of 234 Boeing 737-800s operated by Ryanair, delivered new to the low-cost carrier on 1st November 2004 and she is powered by 2 CFM International CFM56-7B26 engines.

Ivy is ageing and is lovingly cared for by my friend. However she seeks a little extra emotional comfort these days. One of her comforts seems to be a mouthful of 'shag-pile' rug. I don't understand this and she cannot or will not explain. Whatever, she willingly participates in this still doleful study of companionship and textures.
After my ageing Ferrari 575 GTC ( www.flickr.com/photos/legoexotics/5232175658/in/set-72157... ) was totaled (Sven accidentaly dropped it from it's shelf *D'Oh!*) I first considered rebulding it, as I wanted a Ferrari V-12 racer in the stables.
I decided to try something more modern... since GT1 was rejected there aren't that many V-12 racers around. The FXX came to mind but there are lots of LEGO versions around (e.g. Ryan Link's) and even TLC had a try. So I went for the newest, most sophisticated, most innovative limited (add more adjectives) racer Ferrari has on it's list - the 599XX Evoluzione.
However, since I have really small time for LEGO at the moment, you still see a model with some flaws. There is no complete roll cage, the door's inward sloping didn't turn out as I had hoped, the roof needs to be a bit more curved, etc.... I'm open to criticism and suggestions!
On 26 May 1963 Standard 2 Tank 84018 is stabled on Fleetwood Shed (24F). The loco spent much of its time at the shed, but in late 1965, along with other members of the class, was transferred to Eastleigh (71A) with a view to taking over services on the Isle of Wight from the ageing O2's. In the event the plan was cancelled and the move never took place, only 84014 ever arriving on the Southern Region. 84016 was scrapped at Central Wagon Co Wigan shortly after.

84014, the loco that did arrive at Eastleigh, was also withdrawn from service and sold to John Cashmores Newport for dismantling. I took this photo of the loco at Severn Tunnel Junction Shed (86E) on 23 April 1966, while on route to Newport.
