Wild, dark times are rumbling toward us, and the prophet who wishes to write a new apocalypse will have to invent entirely new beasts, and beasts so terrible that the ancient animal symbols of St. John will seem like cooing doves and cupids in comparison.

This one was taken just after a recent massive fire just outside town. This particular patch of forestry was in the process of being harvested when the fire came through, hopefully the timber will still be ok. The trunks were black as black can get and the needles were brown right to the top of these large trees, it was a very eerie place to be. I probably shouldn't have gone in to take this shot as the ground was riddled with soccer ball sized holes where the roots had burned underground but I was too busy looking up that I didn't see them until I was in there.... obviously I survived...
Interstate 5 cuts diagonally through the scene left to right; the University Bridge runs under I-5 and over the boat traffic heading home through the Montlake Cut. After the bombardment on the lake i hung around to capture the smoke cloud moving in to Seattle.
The results of love....up in smoke.

Keep left but not too far. This road sign only had the lettering burnt off it. You couldn't see it for the smoke anyway. Australian bushfires 2020.

Aftermath.
Buxton is a small village in the Macarthur region.
In late 2019 Buxton and surrounding area's fell victim to the devastating bush fires in the region.
This is just one of the timbered area's in the Buxton area that was impacted by the fires.

Cauldron Snout is England’s most powerful series of cascades where the upper River Tees meets the natural barrier of the Great Whin Sill (a complex intrusion of hard igneous rock) and drops 30 to 40 metres by 4 consecutive falls.

Any foliage you see in this picture is three weeks old or less. This trunk was probably already on the ground when the fire came through. The forest was eerily quiet because the animal, bird and insect life was all destroyed or left.
Once a sprawling of green Pine, Birch Trees and shrubs cause by a bizarre freak of nature that left only ruins of dead burn trees and shrubs. This devastation was cause by lightning which is very common in the US.

The Nor'easter finally blew itself out early that afternoon. The subsequent clearing brought some interesting atmospherics. Bogue Banks North Carolina.
I don't think that I'll ever understand why everybody is so keen on welcoming the new year tired and with a headache. Is it for the feeling "it can only get better"? The last two years should have taught us that it will get worse, regardless how bad you feel this morning.
Oh well, here we are again, on the morning after the party.
