Pointe-Saint-Charles yard’s morning job hast just left the port of Montreal as it crosses the old town area with its numerous activities. From left to right: Bonsecours market’s dome, Jacques-Cartier bridge and the ferris wheel, all seen from the roof of Pointe-à-Callière museum.

"Rough sleeping" affects more then just the homeless- The effects ripple through society.

Security companies are increasingly being asked to move on rough sleepers from commercial property, or to recommend measures that can assist property owners in combating this growing problem.

The owners of a commercial property, want their business to be safe from crime and damage.

While it can be uncomfortable to come across people sleeping rough, it is critical to ensure the safety of these individuals, staff and property.

Moving these guys "on" without providing somewhere safe for them to go is just shuffling the problem from one shop to the next.

I don't know the solution - - but our current policy obviously isn't working.

Alone and depressed -

Depression affects about 22% of men aged 65 and older in the UK, with risk factors including chronic illness, loneliness, bereavement, and traditional views that discourage men from discussing mental health.

Symptoms can include sadness, loss of motivation, appetite changes, and physical complaints, and it is often missed or under treated, though community support and services like Age UK's Telephone Friendship Service offer valuable support.

I find it concerning that here in Florida our skies are filled with contrails, it seems to me that we are playing with nature. These contrails are affecting our clouds! Is it environmentally wise to be producing them on a large scale as seems to be the case here?

Going down the Navajo trail at Bryce Canyon National Park showed a unique face of the canyon, which was different from all the images I had seen before. The bottom of the switchback area, where the canyon opens to the valley, had some of the best variations in light and color I have ever seen. With such intense colors, the slight dusting of snow on the canyon walls and the dark silhouette of the trees provided much-needed visual relief. I was careful not to blow out the highlights and loved how the Nikon Z6 handled this tough scene.

This could be the point of view of a mouse.

This is a version for Retina cameras but not named Retina-Xenon. It has short MFD of 0.5m compared to 0.9 of more common Retina-Xenon. Obviously it has longer barel but other than that it is the same lens optically.

As all Xenons it is a beautiful and precisely made. It is similar optical design to Biotar so it is not surprise that it swirl in right conditions. But it is also capable of creating very smooth aquarelish bokeh too.

If I do not want to exaggerate a bit bokeh affect, no post processing is really needed. Colors are rich and natural. Here I worked hard to restaure the details and some colours in peony flower. It is almost impossible to get right this kind of composition straight out of camera. Something has to give up. Or flower is burnt or background is too dark. Lot of pushing and pulling is needed to make it right in the post. Xenon will render enough informations in RAW file to make it possible. I did not try to remove artifacts and as you may see there is not much of them

This stretch of curvy road connects the village of Gills Rock, Wisconsin with the Washington Island Ferry dock at Newport -It is only about 2 miles long, but is unquestionably the most photographed road in Door County. I have been attempting to get an acceptable shot of this piece of Highway 42 for many years. I took this one on a cloudy day just after a constant rain. I like the affect of the wet road winding its way through the autumn colors. We just returned home today from our fall visit to our lake house in Gills Rock. The weather wasn't the best but the fall colors were incredible. Take a peek in LARGE for the best detail and color. View On Black

The Dry Garden bursts into life with bold clumps of Euphorbia, Erysimum and Bergenia producing swathes of colour through shades of purple to lime green. Between these established plants bulbs have been naturalised to create informal drifts, producing a soft and naturalistic affect.

A great bulb to use for this style of planting is Allium hollandicum ‘Purple Sensation’ AGM which arises with a stiff, upright stem which bears a tight circular purple flower head that appears to float through the perennials on the Dry Garden.

The name Allium is from the ancient name for garlic, which is part of the genus. There are estimated to be around 700 species within the genus, and many cultivars. There are perennials and biennials, ranging in height from 10cm - 1.5m (4in - 5ft) or more.

They are mainly from dry and mountainous areas, all from the Northern Hemisphere, and they have adapted to live in almost every plant habitat on the planet, from ice cold tundra to burning, arid deserts.

Many members of the genus give themselves away with the distinctive smell of onions when the bulb or foliage is bruised. The whole group was prized by the ancients as possessing medical and aphrodisiac qualities as well as flavour. The Romans are sometimes held responsible for their wide distribution by taking them wherever they went.

On my last visit to Valley of Fire state park, I found this part of the pastel canyon full of stunning colors and patterns. I took a photo at the time that showcased the delicate colors of the canyon walls during sunrise. The image I took was popular everywhere I posted, but my choice of light to photograph the slot canyon bothered me. The best time to photograph a slot canyon is with the sun directly above them, as only direct sunlight from the top can reach these deep narrow canyons, and when they do, the intense play of light and shadows can do wonders. If you have ever seen a photo of antelope canyon, you can understand why this technique works very well. I chose sunrise on my first visit due to the soft pastel colors here, as I thought soft light would work best.

So naturally, when I got a chance to visit again, I chose mid-morning to photograph the canyon, and I have to say the results were quite different. When I took the image, the top part of the canyon walls was getting intense morning light, and I had to compose the image by carefully avoiding that parts. Even though there is no direct light in the scene, I feel this image has more contrast than the previous one. The dark features on the canyon wall stood out and made the patterns on the walls a lot more prominent. I am in awe of how a slight change in light can affect the image so much.

We walked from St Joseph's Monastery to 'The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces' - a church which overlooks Cotignac. The bells from the church ring out frequently and loudly. I find them strangely comforting. I didn't take a shot of the church itself, only this bit because of the trees and shadows. You can see part of the church at the left.

I may not be on Flickr much in the next few days as I'm having to undergo some onerous dental work starting with a 2 hour appointment at 5.30 today. I'm having three teeth removed and implants fitted in the space of two of them. This is related to my hip replacement surgery believe it or not. When you have a hip prosthesis you have to undergo a dental check for any infections as this can affect the prosthesis. I went for a check ten days ago and I've got infections under the roots of three teeth. I never knew. All a bit of a nuisance to say the least. It's delayed the hip replacement as I need to be totally free of infections in time for the operation and so this could take three weeks. Probably too much information for you but you know how I can rabbit on unnecessarily sometimes.

This little stone tower appears to have been here for many years, but I have no idea who built it or how old it is. Whoever it was, they built it to last!

If someone asked you to construct a small tower like this on the beach - where it would be battered by rising tides and stormy waves - where would you build it? On the nice, soft sand, or on the solid rock? The answer is obvious, of course. If the tower is to stand the test of time and tide, it will have to be built on a solid foundation. Rock, not sand.

When foundations are so obviously important, why then are so many prepared to gamble with their eternal destiny by building their lives on a foundation which they have spent little or no time investigating? Many seem content to go through life, never contemplating what might await them after death. Consequently, they have no spiritual foundation. They make choices and take decisions which not only affect their lives today and for many years to come but, ultimately, those choices will determine where they will spend eternity.

Those who do occasionally think about life after death, often seem content to simply follow everyone else. But, if all around you are building their little stone towers on soft sand, should you follow their example? Or should you look around to find a rocky outcrop on which to build?

Since the Bible claims to be God's word to man; and since Jesus of Nazareth claimed that the Bible spoke about Him; and since He claimed to be the ONLY way to be saved from an eternity in hell; wouldn't it be prudent to take a little time to consider His claims? What have you got to lose? Only your very soul!

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)

Why not start here... the Gospel of John (the fourth book in the New Testament) is a surprisingly easy read. It's almost like a short novel and moves along at an engaging pace. And it will only take a few of hours to read the whole thing.

I had never seen a leucistic avocet, or even dreamed of one, but there it was. On a sunny, cold morning, it was hanging out with the other avocets... sort of. Mostly it was on the fringes of the social gathering. Many of the avocets seemed to be paired up, but this bird was clearly on its own.

Because of its normal leg and eye colour, I'm sure this isn't an albino. Bird leucism only affects the feathers. I couldn't get close, but this shot, with a "normal" avocet flying in at the right, shows the startling difference. A fascinating way to start the day...

The Confederation Bridge spans the Abegweit Passage of Northumberland Strait. It links Prince Edward Island with mainland New Brunswick, Canada. Before its official naming, Prince Edward Islanders often referred to the bridge as the "Fixed Link".

The curved, 12.9 kilometre (8 mile) long bridge is the longest in the world crossing ice-covered water, and more than a decade after its construction, it endures as one of Canada’s top engineering achievements of the 20th century.

The decision to replace the existing ferry service with a fixed link followed a heated debate throughout the 1980’s. Farmers, fishermen, tourism operators, and residents of Prince Edward Island had sharply contrasting opinions about how year-round access to the mainland would affect their way of life and livelihood. Eventually, it was decided that the debate would be settled at the polls. The federal department of Public Works and Government Services selected its favourite bridge design out of several proposals from the private sector, and on January 18, 1988, Premier Joseph Ghiz asked Prince Edward Islanders to make the final decision in a plebiscite. At the polls, 59.4% of Islanders voted “Yes” to a fixed link.

After four years of construction using crews of more than five thousand local workers, the Confederation Bridge opened to traffic on May 31, 1997, at a total construction cost of one billion dollars.

Today, the Confederation Bridge is operated by Strait Crossing Bridge Limited, headquartered in the shadow of the bridge in Borden-Carleton, Prince Edward Island.

We have discovered a lab down here! We have to investigate; there might be some valuable information down here.

The blast doors are open. How convenient! Let's go!!

A shrill alarm goes off, red lights blinking everywhere! We got spotted! The ray shields of the blast door caught Krusher in between!

A large Trandoshan, armed with a heavy battle-ax and what seems to be a cortosis plated armor, rushes towards us! He got Tuxx! No blaster fire appears to stop him. Not even our Z-6 cannon seems to affect the cortosis armor.

Distracted from the Trandoshan, we only have noticed the B3 ultra battle droid as it begins to fire on us. Fortunately, this B3 seems to be a prototype and not fully operational by itself.

Jeckker, take care of the Engineer; it seems he is controlling the droid! B3 down, one problem less to keep track of!

With an accurate headshot, I could take out the Trandoshan. He falls to the floor with a loud thud.

After taking out the alarm and securing the lab, we made a horrible discovery. Besides Sask's plans and the B3 project, we discovered Dr. Noru's research on bio-enhanced super-soldiers.

What dark menace is hidden behind this project?

This is my entry for the public mission 20 of the 253rd Elite Legion RPG. Build time was four weeks.

There is something about this shot that affects me. I noticed her walking along the shoreline with a far away look on her face with the evening sun on it as she passed , with the baby looking out to the sea and then the juxtaposition of the surfer looking out to sea also and the tallship . I have left it sitting in the archives for a bit however I just keep coming back to it .

The capture of this moment felt a bit like a David Lynch movie and also felt a bit like a staged scene for a project I had been given at art school on modern Australia with street photography meets landscape meets beach scene (never been - just sayin' thats what it felt like ;)).

The title was easy for me tonight as firstly I am a HUGE Terence Malick fan and also, for me at least, it fits the scene - on the shores of Australia - which was 'settled'(contentious word right ?) by white Europeans in tall ships in the 18th century who were 'discovering' what they believed to be a 'new world'.

Yes, this shot evokes a lot of thoughts for me on what a New World is...

Like most red squirrels, spotting a Caucasian Squirrel is definitely becoming a rare sight. Climate change affects nature differently in every corner of the world.

The last time I came across the local squirrels was at the beginning of July. Due to the extreme heat in the region, Caucasian Squirrels are certain to spend very hot hours in their nests. Because I haven't been seen them around very often for more than 2 months.

Today, it was cloudy weather in the North Aegean Region of Türkiye the strong North wind was shaking the olive branches.

I was walking in an olive grove and patiently waiting to see the Caucasian Squirrel. After waiting for about an hour the reward came. Group of squirrels were playing around the pomegranate trees 100 meters in front of me. I was under the olive tree with a wide trunk. I didn't move, waiting for them to climb the centuries-old olive trees and retreat to their den inside the follow in the middle of the tree.

I saw the Mr & Mrs Caucasian Squirrel couple enter their century-old olive tree hollow. I move and started to wait next olive tree trunk, which is about 7 meters away. I had already begun to wait silently for 30 minutes when the male Caucasian Squirrel noticed my presence immediately. Curious male took out his head first, then his half body checked and after making sure then female followed him.

The moment I had been waiting for a long time happened in front of me. Even though I was wearing a camouflage cover, they were aware of my presence. I had to use 1.4 TC for close-up when the light was enough.

Today they made me very happy. I hope you wouldn't mind 14 series of Caucasian Squirrel photos and you'll like it just as much as I do.

The Caucasian squirrel - Sciurus anomalus ; The Caucasian squirrel or Persian squirrel, is a tree squirrel in the genus Sciurus found in temperate broadleaf and mixed forests in south-western Asia.

The species is usually said to have first been described in 1778 by Johann Friedrich Gmelin in the 13th edition of Systema Naturae, and named Sciurus anomalus. However, some authors argue that this work was actually published in 1788, and that the true first description was made by Johann Anton Güldenstädt in 1785.

Description -

Caucasian squirrels are small tree squirrels, with a total length of 32 to 36 cm (13 to 14 in), including the 13 to 18 cm (5.1 to 7.1 in) tail, and weighing 250 to 410 g (8.8 to 14.5 oz). The color of the upper body fur ranges from greyish brown to pale grey, depending on the subspecies, while that of the underparts is rusty brown to yellowish, and that of the tail, yellow brown to deep red. The claws are relatively short, compared with those of other tree squirrels, and females have either eight or ten teats.

Samuel Griswold Goodrich described the Caucasian squirrel in 1885 as "Its color is grayish-brown above, and yellowish-brown below".

Physical Description -

Caucasian squirrels have a dental formula of incisors 1/1, canines 0/0, premolars 1/1, and molars 3/3, totaling 20. They have four fingered fore feet and five fingered hind feet. Sex differences in body length or mass are not evident.

Distribution and habitat -

Caucasian squirrels are native to south-western Asia, where they are found from Turkey, and the islands of Gökçeada and Lesbos in the west, Iran in the southeast, and as far as Israel and Jordan in the south. It is one of only two species of the genus Sciurus to be found on Mediterranean islands, and, although Eurasian red squirrels have been recently introduced to some areas, is the only species of Sciurus native to the wider region.

The species mainly lives in forested areas dominated by oak, pine, and pistachio, up to altitudes of 2,000 metres (6,600 ft).

Biology and behavior -

The squirrels are diurnal, and solitary, although temporary groups may forage where food is plentiful. Their diet includes nuts, seeds, tree shoots, and buds, with the seeds of oak and pine being particularly favored. Like many other squirrels, they cache their food within tree cavities or loose soil, with some larders containing up to 6 kg (13 lb) of seeds. They live in trees, where they make their dens, but frequently forage on the ground, and are considered less arboreal than Eurasian red squirrels. They commonly nest in tree hollows lined with moss and leaves, and located 5 to 14 m (16 to 46 ft) above the ground, but nests are also sometimes found under rocks or tree roots. Their alarm call is high-pitched, and said to resemble the call of the European green woodpecker, and they mark their territories with urine and dung.

Breeding occurs throughout the year, but is more common in spring or autumn. Litters range from two to seven, with three or four being typical, and the young are fully mature by five or six months of age.

Conservation -

A survey in 2008 found that the species remained abundant within Turkey, however declines are noted in population within the Levant region. The guides for a survey in 1993 in Israel stated that they considered the species to be nearly extinct within the area studied. Whilst the Caucasian squirrel is threatened by poaching and deforestation, the declines recorded are not sufficient to qualify them as anything other than "Least Concern" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.[1] Hunting of the species is banned by the Central Hunting Commission, and the Caucasian squirrel is protected by the Bern Convention and the EU Habitats Directive.

That morning after the lunar eclipse, I wanted to know how it affected life on Earth, so I went to the local watermelon patch. Stangely, the Eclipse seemed to have turned the watermelon from green to bright orange. Most unusual. Wonder what Linus would have thought?

It was interesting to see the affects of the sunlight on the mist and how it adds a real sense of depth and distance. This shot focuses on the granite stacks in the foreground as the sun illuminates the mist directly behind. In contrast, the dense mist in the shady lowlands appears cooler and detail is lost, creating shapes and silhouettes. It really was fascinating photography in these atmospheric conditions. Thanks for looking. Mk

As someone that has undiagnosed Seasonal Affective Disorder (Depression bouts in winter) I have to focus my eye on the prize... sunshine around the bend. We have had a week + of gray days and no sun! I know I should look on the bright side "The plants and trees need a rest for them to be their best come Spring" but that does not help too much. So I hide indoors and create. Images, textures and videos. I felt it was time to update my basic texturing video so here it is!
