…before you fall.
Bipolar disorder affects approximately 5.7 million adult Americans, or about 2.6% of the U.S. population age 18 and older every year. (National Institute of Mental Health). The median age of onset for bipolar disorder is 25 years (National Institute of Mental Health), although the illness can start in early childhood or as late as the 40's and 50's. Bipolar disorder results in 9.2 years reduction in expected life span, and as many as one in five patients with bipolar disorder completes suicide. (National Institute of Mental Health). Please, please, please, educate yourself. If you think you, or someone you know, may be suffering from bipolar disorder, please look at the sites below. This means a lot to me and I will everyone to check these sites out.
Again, I cannot stress enough how important this is to me, so please, follow the links.
Anyway, I am back! And by back, I mean you won’t be able to get rid of me! Starting next Monday I will be uploading very often, I’m talking about every other day at the least. Tomorrow is my last day of school, the last day for exams, and with all of my free time this summer, I plan to fill up my empty 365!
I’m so excited! This summer will be awesome, I get to go to so many places, and take my camera with me. So, I’m really looking forward to the two months off I have from school; which, like always, has kept me away from flickr for the past few weeks.
I wanted to apologize to those who have mailed me or marked me as a contact recently, I have been swamped with studying for exams and I haven’t had time to look through anything on flickr. So, you can expect a reply within a few days!
I also wanted to thank all of you for the comments and favourites I received for my previous photo. That was my first explore #1, and I am very honoured!
Thank you bunches!
Oh, and facebook has filled my free time. Yes, I got one. Not so sure I’m liking the no privacy bit of it (parents constantly checking it), but I like chatting with my friends. I’m not sure yet if I’ll post a link for it on here or not, but if you want to add me, flickr mail me with your address and name etc.
So, what are you all doing for summer? Going anywhere fun?

In recent years, the face of the mural has changed. Community groups have worked tirelessly to remove the gunmen of the gable wall and replace them with messages of hope and achievement.
They commemorate, reflect values, communicate and display aspects of culture and history.

04-May-2022: about turism: my perplexities towards a future with more and more bans and more and more over-taxes.
Lake Bohinj and the much more famous Lake Bled are close (less than 20 km) but the second has a mass tourism now rooted, while the first is expanding its tourist reception in recent years, coming out (unfortunately) from the shadow of Bled, that was a lightning rod for peaceful and symbiotic nature lovers.
I am totally against mass tourism because it transforms a relaxing resort into an area where it is difficult even to access it.
Around Lake Bled, even at a certain distance, there are only paid parking lots, which come to cost 6 euros per hour (about the most decentralized and in May...) that, certainly, leave perplexed about the "tourist selection" that "they" would like to implement (high-end tourism) and, in general, certainly drive away the tourist in search of nature and not restaurants, bars, concrete lake-front and crowd baths.
The naturalist tourist should not feel like a tourist in Nature, which is a single great asset of humanity and that only administratively is divided between various Countries, while in Bled, as in Rimini or Cortina d'Ampezzo, they make you feel not only tourist, but also guest, sometimes unwanted if you spend little.
As tourism increases, so do the bans, because unfortunately mass tourism includes many people who don't know anything about Nature and generally only go to very touristy places to make themselves of...people, sowing dirt and ignorance wherever they move.
The imposition of prohibitions/bans to limit the "damage from mass tourism" affects everyone indiscriminately, including locals and naturalists who have always had a symbiotic relationship with these places, thus making them become inhospitable, at least to those seeking pure contact with nature itself.
Of course this happens all over the world, but it should be condemned.
We already pay State taxes for the maintenance of the slice of Nature that falls within our administration, tourist surcharges, exploiting market laws that should be verified and contained, are for the most part unconstitutional, as well as several prohibitions that deprive access and use of public property.
With the money that the tourist municipalities pocket they could very well implement a targeted prevention (controls by foresters, cameras, ad hoc fences for areas subject to micro-pollution...) rather than closing everything and then de-empowering themself on the maintenance of roads and areas (more and more numerous), thus going to save further, starting from the basic taxes that we pay to also have access to given areas.
I can understand that you tax parking at high altitude to maintain the roads, but the amount of the payment should be directly proportional to the expenses that must be incurred to ensure accessibility, not by putting prices at random and with increases of 200% from one year to the next.
I have always appreciated the fact that Slovenia, thanks also that it is not densely inhabited and has a modest tourism (except precisely Bled, Postojna Caves and the Coast), guarantees a wide accessibility and use of its territories and I hope it can continue, limiting the prohibitions and parking lots everywhere.

Does fog affect fishing? That is a good question and the answer is yes, and not always in a bad way. Sometimes, foggy weather can give you some of the best fishing conditions that you can find. When you fish in foggy weather, there are things that you need to know such as what types of bait and lures you should use as well as the type of weather, like is it warm or cold outside.
An obscure flickr post I created back in 2017 about Seasonal Affective Disorder has been trending near the top of my activity feed for the past couple of weeks. I can only imagine people are searching that phrase and turning up my photo. A sure sign that the darkening phase in the northern hemisphere is taking a toll on our collective mental health. For me, this time of year brings about yet another dichotomy in my life. I'm not keen on the reduction in the hours of daylight. Yet the abrupt transformation of the landscape in the past couple of weeks is truly astounding. It's not just the feeling of omnipresent darkness, but the utter stripping away of the foliage and the resulting desaturation of the landscape that fascinates me. Recent snow has heightened the sensation of existing within a monochromatic world that, if appearance is all that matters, is devoid of even a hint of joy. Yet within that construct I find wonder. I truly revel in the feeling that familiar places look completely different, and at times even inhospitable. Such was the case as I contemplated this lone tree, buffeted by wintry winds beneath an eerie layer of striated clouds ahead of a massive cold front. A moment of cheer on a very bleak November afternoon.

Q: How does weather affect fall colors?
A: Astronomical fall began on Sept. 22.
Climatologists consider fall as the months of September, October and November. The fall season is also associated with pumpkin patches, fresh apples and beautiful foliage.
Leaves are green in the summer because they contain chlorophyll, which reflects green light more than other colors. Other colors are absorbed by chlorophyll for photosynthesis.
During autumn, the green chlorophyll disappears from the leaves as the leaves stop their food-making process, and yellow and orange colors appear. These colors have been in the leaves all along but we can’t see them in the summer because of the chlorophyll.
The color orange comes from carotene, and the yellows from xanthophyll. The bright red and purple colors come from anthocyanin pigments, which are made from leftover glucose trapped within the leaves of some trees, such as maples.
Brilliant fall colors with bright red and purple colors require conditions in which leaves can make a lot of anthocyanin pigments. The brilliance of a fall color season is a function of the weather.
Sunny days and cool nights are the key weather ingredient for brilliant fall colors. The best weather conditions are bright sunny days and cool, but not frosty, nights.
A drab autumn has lots of cloudy days and warm nights. Leaves begin to turn before we have any frosts. An early frost speeds up the fall of the leaves and brings a quick end to the fall color. A few hard frosts can cause the leaves to wither and fall from the tree without changing color.
Have a wonderful day and thanks for your visits.

"Rough sleeping" affects more then just the homeless- The effects ripple through society.
Security companies are increasingly being asked to move on rough sleepers from commercial property, or to recommend measures that can assist property owners in combating this growing problem.
The owners of a commercial property, want their business to be safe from crime and damage.
While it can be uncomfortable to come across people sleeping rough, it is critical to ensure the safety of these individuals, staff and property.

Alone and depressed -
Depression affects about 22% of men aged 65 and older in the UK, with risk factors including chronic illness, loneliness, bereavement, and traditional views that discourage men from discussing mental health.
Symptoms can include sadness, loss of motivation, appetite changes, and physical complaints, and it is often missed or under treated, though community support and services like Age UK's Telephone Friendship Service offer valuable support.

I get a feeling of joy and excitement looking at these orange flowers. Is it just me or is orange known to affect people in certain ways? I asked ChatGPT and felt validated. Orange can make you feel a variety of emotions, including:
Excitement: Orange is a stimulating color that can trigger feelings of enthusiasm and passion.
Happiness: Orange is often described as a bright, happy, and joyful color.
Warmth: Orange is a warm color, associated with the beauty of the setting sun or the refreshing taste of citrus.
Confidence: Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow for a warm, confident, fun hue.
Creativity: Orange increases oxygen to the brain, which stimulates mental activity and creativity.

Visit: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autumn_leaf_color
From Wikipedia:
Autumn leaf color is a phenomenon that affects the normal green leaves of many deciduous trees and shrubs by which they take on, during a few weeks in the autumn season, various shades of yellow, orange, red, purple, and brown. The phenomenon is commonly called autumn colours or autumn foliage in British English and fall colors fall foliage, or simply foliage in American English.
In some areas of Canada and the United States, "leaf peeping" tourism is a major contribution to economic activity. This tourist activity occurs between the beginning of color changes and the onset of leaf fall, usually around September and October in the Northern Hemisphere and April to May in the Southern Hemisphere.
A green leaf is green because of the presence of a pigment known as chlorophyll, which is inside an organelle called a chloroplast. When abundant in the leaf's cells, as during the growing season, the chlorophyll's green color dominates and masks out the colors of any other pigments that may be present in the leaf. Thus, the leaves of summer are characteristically green.
As autumn approaches, with daylight hours shortening and temperatures cooling, the veins that carry fluids into and out of the leaf are gradually closed off as a layer of special cork cells forms at the base of each leaf. As this cork layer develops, water and mineral intake into the leaf is reduced, slowly at first, and then more rapidly. During this time, the amount of chlorophyll in the leaf begins to decrease. Often, the veins are still green after the tissues between them have almost completely changed color.

The Grasshopper Warbler is a charismatic bird more often heard than seen. It is a summer migrant arriving in April and departing in September. It has a very unique song but can be very hard to see due to the ventriloquial affect of the song. As it moves it's head it appears the bird has moved or is moving.
You can see the song here on:-

The high, insect-like reeling song of the grasshopper warbler is the best clue to its presence. Even when you hear one it can be difficult to locate it due to the ventriloquial effect of its singing. If seen on migration it moves like a little mouse, creeping through the foliage. Dramatic population declines have made this a Red List species
Overview
Latin name
Locustella naevia
Family
Warblers and allies (Sylviidae)
Where to see them
Found scattered across the UK in summer, although less common in Scotland. Likes areas of scrub, thick grassland, the edges of reedbeds, new forestry plantations and gravel pits with plenty of scattered bushes.
When to see them
Birds arrive from mid-April and leave again in August and September. Best listened for between April and July when they perch and sing from songposts, mostly at dawn and dusk but often through the night.
