The children's library on the day that the contractors handed the building back to Devon County Council, ready for fitting out. On the left, shelving is ready to be assembled and on the right, new kinder boxes.
Pre-construction Phase: ground floor. Previously locked and unused, this side entrance will be opened up again as part of the refurbishment to allow easier access to the new children's library.
Here you can see that the original oak doorframe of the inner door has been covered to protect it from damage. The doors have been removed for the duration of the works but will be reinstated.
Pre-construction Phase: removing furniture, built-in units and intrusive structural surveys make things quite dusty. This is the 'delapidation' stage - seems like an appropriate name!
The walls of the new interview room has now been plastered (compare with the previous week www.flickr.com/photos/devonlibraries/6838806356/in/set-72...). There is a viewing window into the entrance hall to the right of it.

Pre-construction Phase: first floor. Almost unrecognisable, this is the first floor library room where the computers were. Here you can see the last few items of furniture ready to be collected by local charities. The carpet has been taken up to check the condition of the floor.
