Pre-construction Phase: top floor. This office was full of old papers, furniture and other clutter that had to be cleared and recycled. Many of the walls had built-in noticeboards which had to be stripped off during the pre-construction phase. Luckily the furniture could all be reused by local charities.

The wall on the right will be knocked through to the next room in order to create a larger office for all the staff in the building and hot-desk workers from the local area.

This campaign is being led by the Workers' Educational Association - the UK's largest provider of voluntary adult education - for and on behalf of everyone involved in adult and community learning in the UK.

The Government is currently preparing its Spending Review for the next 5 years and adult education is under threat. All non-protected departments, including Business, Innovation and Skills which funds the WEA work, have been asked by the Chancellor to suggest cuts of 25% and 40%.

Here's how you can support the campaign:

1. Write to your local MP

• Find their contact details at www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/

• Write to them by letter or email or contact them via social media.

• Write also to the Chancellor George Osborne at HM Treasury, 1 Horse Guards Road, London, SW1A 2HQ or email: public.enquiries@hmtreasury.gsi.gov.uk

2. Spread the word on social media

• Use ‪#‎saveadulteducation‬ on twitter and facebook, and tell the world about the positive impact adult education has had on your life, family and community

3. Sign our campaign petition at you.38degrees.org.uk/p/sae

The long narrow corridor on the top floor at Newton Abbot does not conform to building regulations. It will be widened during the refurbishment, making it much more accessible to wheelchair users.
