Investigation of the wall construction reveals that the plaster was mixed with horsehair - a less visible historical feature of the building!

A hole was dug in the library floor to test the make-up of the ground below. This will ensure that when some of the internal walls are taken down, support can be built in the right places to keep the structure strong.
