A closer look at this funerary monument dating from the 3rd Century BC. It depicts Adonis after he was gored by a wild boar during a hunt. Myth has it that he died in the arms of the goddess Aphrodite.

I discovered by accident that I had a few photos from my trip earlier this year that was on the camera's built in memory. I had forgotten to have a memory card in the camera and only discovered that after a few shots, so had had to visit a nearby town to buy an SD card. After that I forgot that there were some photos on the camera itself.
I am pleased with the photo and rarely see these beautiful butterflies as they are not seen within 100 miles of home.
On the top of this funerary monument dating from the 3rd Century BC depicts Adonis. Gored by a wild boar in his left thigh during a hunt, he is said to have died in the arms of the goddess Aphrodite as she wept.
