Another shot of the same butterfly, I'd have liked a bit more DoF here if the truth be known, but never mind.
I was planning on procrastinating photographing this guy, but here are some quick first shots of him from today. I was very excited to see he was number 1 of 450, made me tempted to leave him in the box, but it appears I am not the only # 1?!
(He arrived yesterday, I was expecting him Monday! Nice surprise that I wasn’t prepared for!) My first Adonis Doll! He is already exquisite to photograph, even still in the package with no real lighting or plan.
Ellie Hilsdon and myself were lucky enough to have the weekend off work, combined perfect weather for some photography. Here are a few images from the weekend.
Found plenty of 7-spots tucked up on all different types of vegetation yesterday, but felt disappointed to not have found any other species! So, as I headed back to my car, I crossed the road and explored some rough grass at the edge of an arable field. Thought I might at least find some 16-spots! Was over the moon to find this Adonis ladybird (Hippodamia variegata). Unfortunately, the sun had all but disappeared at this point, so the photos aren't great!!

Feeding on Scabious this Female Adonis caught my eye, in my opinion easily the best of the female Blues :)
With the last two evenings being sunny, I was determined to make the most of it, so went off tetrad bashing on the way home from the office!
Was over the moon to find the gorgeous Adonis ladybird on both occasions!
Main shot from Astley and the one in comments was at Roden.

Heather knows: The word, anemone, is of Greek origin and loosely translated means, "Windflower". Greek mythology tells that the anemone flower sprang from the blood Adonis, who was Aphrodite's slain lover. The significance of "windflower" is that the SAME wind that gently blows the petals open---will also blow the dead petals away.
# Japanese anemone
Anemones are essential ingredients in the late summer/autumn garden, adding height and clear colours in shades of purple, pink and white. Grow them in cottage gardens and borders, where they inject plenty of presence to fill the gaps left by perennials.
