Arguably the most beautifully coloured British blue butterfly, although this underside view does not do it justice. Its beauty is reflected in the name Adonis, the beautiful youth in Greek mythology. The name bellargus is a bit of an oxymoron; bella meaning beautiful, whereas Argus was the creature with a hundred eyes.
Adonis Blues are restricted to warm chalk or limestone hillsides in the south of England. Always much rarer than the Chalkhill Blue, although its numbers have increased in recent years. Their caterpillars feed on Horseshoe Vetch on short-cropped turf. I photographed this male on some downland near Folkestone in Kent during my recent trip south.

A few months ago I decided to do a total reroot on my Adonis Gym Boy because his hair was horrible, I started working on him in my spare time but then my work commitments prevented me from completing it.
I had chosen a "Hollywood blonde" color for him but I was still undecided on how to style it.
In the meantime, the Beach Groove version came out with a very similar hair color and I didn't like the idea of having two Adonis with the same hair color, so I decided to delete the grafts made and choose another color.
The first time I saw Adonis live I thought that his face in profile view reminded me of a Native American, especially an Apache.
I liked the idea of doing something to enhance this feature but at the same time I wanted to keep an aspect of mixed ethnicity.
This is the result after a series of various tests, I am very satisfied with how it turned out.
In the meantime I bought a second Gim Boy with better hair than the first one, he was on Monarch body, I swapped, the second got the original body and the custom was put on Monarch one, the match skintone is almost perfect and I like how his overall looks.
