Angela Foster's addition to Wilson's NIWA buildings at Greta Point in Wellington.

This building works extraordinarily well in the context of the heavily structured concrete buildings that form the surrounding campus. This appears as a lightweight jewel that contributes to the overall composition of the campus through material contrast, yet consistency in terms of its honest expression of materials and construction, and, the axial and circulatory extension of relationships set up in the original design (with the timber outbuildings) - features, which to me, make it every bit as brutalist as the original buildings.

I guess that's an addition on the right side of the porch there?

I will be looking up the names of some of these houses later. I just don't have the time or the patience right now.

Here's my little brother, Mike, the Master Carpenter, standing next to his masterpiece--the new addition to Dave's house, which will add 4 new bedrooms, a bathroom, & alot more space to his old house...

After four months and a very long story, I finally (FINALLY!) received the signed U2 Joshua Tree album I had purchased back forever ago.

The sellers restored it reasonably well, gave me a good discount since it was so damaged after it's first shipment, and even threw in four fantastic rock art posters for free.

Board President, Ana Maria Amin and Board Member Tony Monteiro took the opportunity today to visit Jerome Dunn Academy and the future home of the new Teach to One (Math) program. They toured the old library that will soon be transformed into a State-of-the art TTO media center. Olga Hugelmeyer shared the mission of the TTO program along with Mr. Couto who explain the blueprints. In addition, they toured JDA visiting students and team members.

My newest addition: the Canon Rebel XTi (photos taken with the Rebel XT).

Meet our newest addition. We've been searching for good all-around horses so that when friends/family come to visit, they will have a horse to ride. All our Vanners are too young, and Limerick being a stallion is not one who I will let just anyone ride. So meet Gunner, a 5 yr old quarter horse gelding. He is as sweet as can be. He was ridden, but not by people using natural horsemanship techniques. So he's learning that not all people have a heavy hand. He's a great trail horse and is practically bombproof, but we want to show him that being ridden isn't something he just has to take against his will. The other horses with him were also very dominant toward him and he was getting pretty beaten up. Poor guy. He's just too kind for that, so he's come here to live an be loved :)

Ahungalla Heritance Hotel (former Triton Hotel)

Architect: Geoffrey Bawa, 1979-1971, addition 1990's.

Ahungalla, Sri Lanka.

www.geoffreybawa.com/work/grand-designs-regional-modernism:

The Triton Hotel at Ahungalla is hidden away in a coconut grove beside a long and featureless beachfront. The design partie was a seemingly banal version of a traditional rest house with two long wings of rooms facing the ocean under overhanging hipped roofs. But Bawa’s strength lay in his ability to control a project on site and breathe magic into it.

In the final plan he re-arranged the rooms into clusters to create a series of courtyards at different levels and he transformed the entrance sequence into a coup de théatre, offering a vista through a grove of palm trees, past the slender columns of the lobby to the light blue surface of the swimming pool and the darker blue of the ocean beyond. “ If the world were flat you would be able to see Africa” he wryly observed.

HVAC contractor, and neighbor Gary F. works on getting our evaporative cooler running for the room addition.

In addition to the wing work I added a new tail plane which linked the original which was split into two halves. The aircraft now looks like a P38. But a bit to stubby, the short wings just will not match the new high altitiude engines.

A walking weekend based in Dent, Yorkshire Dales 19-20th September 2004 with Brian Hunt and others. It was "Speak like a Pirate Day"

Dent is a village and civil parish in Cumbria, England. It lies in Dentdale, a narrow valley on the western slopes of the Pennines within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is about 4 miles (6 km) south east of Sedbergh and about 8 miles (13 km) north east of Kirkby Lonsdale.

History

Dent was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Both place name and dialect evidence indicate that this area was settled by the Norse in the 10th century.[2] Geoffrey Hodgson, in 2008, argued that this invasion accounts for the high frequency of the Hodgson surname in the area.[3]

Dent was the birthplace of the geologist Adam Sedgwick in 1785.

Dentdale was one of the last Yorkshire Dales to be enclosed, Dent's Enclosure Award being made in 1859.[4]

Whilst fishing on the Dee at Dentdale in the 1840s, William Armstrong, 1st Baron Armstrong saw a waterwheel in action, supplying power to a marble quarry. It struck Armstrong that much of the available power was being wasted and it inspired him to design a successful hydraulic engine which began the accumulation of his wealth and industrial empire.

Dent, then in Yorkshire, was one of the sites for the Survey of English Dialects in the 1950s. A recording of the broadest local speech is available on the British Library's website.

The village today

The Dent Brewery is an independent microbrewery in Cowgill, just above Dent.[5]

Dent was the original site of the Dent Folk Festival and is now the site of the Dent Music and Beer Festival at the end of June. The first event was held in 2009 and was hailed as a great success.

Dent railway station on the Settle and Carlisle Railway is about 4 miles (6 km) above the village at Denthead. Despite its name, it is actually in Cowgill. Nearby, the railway goes over a viaduct.

The long distance footpath the Dales Way passes through Dent, with various types of accommodation (pub, B & B, camping) available to walkers.[7]

The parish of Dent includes the whole of Dentdale and the side valley of Deepdale. In addition to the village of Dent settlements in the parish includes the hamlets of Lenacre, Gawthrop, Cowgill and Stone House.
