In addition to presenting a pretty picture, photography should also elicit some feeling or emotion. Sometimes, it's more about the enmotion than the actual composition.

I remember standing along the trail, pre-sunrise, waiting for what might or might not be a grand entrance to the sun on this cloudy New Year's Eve morning in Arches National Park, back in 2017. It felt wonderful to be out in that biting cold, with very few others around me - oh, there were photographers there, all out to capture the sunrise, too, just not in the same spot as I stood.

The end of 2017 was momentous for me. I'd decided to retire from my job in 2018 and depart Texas to return to the mountains of the west - the Pacific Northwest, in this case. So spending late Dec 2017 / early Jan 2018 in a national park with my cameras seemed fitting.

I hope your New Year's Eve is a good one, and your New Year's Day even better, whether you are out in a park with your camera or not.

Good-bye to 2021 and hello to 2022.

I like having multiple methods to photograph people with, because it stops me from getting bored of one format, and if I fail in one I usually succeed in another. On this occasion, pretty much all of my double exposures were subpar. Shooting with no shade on a Spring day with color film didn't help. I sort of stacked the deck against myself. But normal color portraits? Easy. Flowers were everywhere, Sarah is immensely photogenic; mix the two and you've got everything you ever wanted out of photography. It's always good to have options, but best to have a gorgeous model.

A very nice addition, the Lewis gun looks great in bronze. This was my first Lewis gun, and I must say that the amount of detail is amazing! A very nice gun which fits the theme perfectly. Now for the Bayonet. I like it, I don't love it. While this may be a welcome addition for pirate and military fans, I will have to work hard to find uses for it, as I am more of a sci-fi fan. I also think the bayonet would work better with the gun if it were a different color. The solid bronze doesn't make the gun feel as interesting and

unique as it could be.

This house had a lot of them.

On a clear spring morning, as the first rays of sunshine warmed the tranquil landscape, an amateur photographer passed by on his morning walk through the large peat bog at the foot of the Wiehengebirge. The lamb eyed him curiously and waited patiently in his pose until all the photos were in the frame.

The ground was bare when the site was chosen. Slowly addition after addition came to be wrought making a new transformed landscape. A way was made here that stood to honour our ancestors and to praise their contemporaries as they held the balance of year and kept the intent to give themselves as the makers of markers for the futures.

The ground was bare when the site was chosen. At first wooden markers were raised up and set in sockets within the ground and these posts were piled around with the egg like river stones that spoke of the fertile mother and of her elusive lover. The Spring Bolt God who echoed everywhere even as his signature was found as hollowed and hallowed as boundless vibrating Air so his spirit as swift as lightning so fully intense and so fully fledged and fletched as he as the Lord of Thunderbolts needs to be always vigilant and always ready yet also fulfilled as the Green Man that in one session flowers a Season strong enough to turn the Wheel of the Year was also upon the instant to retract, to reduce so much as to seemingly disappear.

The ground was bare when the site was chosen. There were signs on the land here that soil here was barely draped over, these were the signs the natural characteristics that they could follow as they built up the glories of gods and set them in ‘stone bone’ back upon the Earth. The light and shadow marked out the plans by day and the stars confirmed the solar plots and so stone the bone of the land was raised for their ways to be praised longer than many, many lengths of timber lasting days.

The 153 peeping under the bridge at Horbury Cutting is hardly modern but when I looked at this scene it appeared unchanged for decades. My wife and son picked up our newest addition to the family yesterday. She's getting to know her way around, and one of her favorite places for now is under this stove. She's pretty much out from under foot, and can rest peacefully. Pippin has pretty much ignored her, except for looking for more attention from us! By the way, the reason I haven't mentioned a name is that we still haven't agreed on one. Our daughter is due back Sunday night, so Monday we should have a name agreed upon.

The 4th addition to the Raiders of the Lost Ark series, this vignette proved to be quite a challenge in terms of avoiding monotony. While I'm not entirely convinced that it is overflowing with detail, I am confident that this version is 100% better than the original MOC I photographed. Slight but important changes were made in tile consistency, city layout, and even the positioning of the 1x1 round printed tile on the staff.

This scene depicts Indiana Jones using the Staff of Ra to find the resting place of the Ark of the Covenant. It's one of my favorite scenes not just because of the musical score, but also due to the suspense and brilliant lighting effects.

Got back from Rose City Comic Con, and it was a blast. It's getting more crowded, but it's still immensely entertaining.

Also hey, new figs! The seller was trying to clear out his collection and was practically giving figs away, everything here was acquired for five to ten bucks.

Just wanted to get a group photo of em all before I line em up on my shelves.

Also I didn't end up getting any figs that weren't Star Wars cause the selection was pretty limited. Gotta wait till Brick Con for the expansive stuff.

Death Star Droid, Lobot, Royal Guard, Juno Eclipse, Admiral Trapbar, Tusken Raiders, Kashyyk Scout Trooper, Dengar, Dagobah Luke, Salacious B Crumb, Bib Fortuna, Boussh, and Gamorrean Guards.

New figs (not made of these parts) on the way. Cheers, gents!

In addition to the paths cut into the cliff face, the Carança trail has a lot of steelwork bolted to the cliffs. This takes the form of narrow walkways, ladders (one or two probably 15-20 ft in height and sometimes wobbly suspension bridges. Occasionally, like here, the gap on the cliff side was big enough to fall though!

This is a quite tentative and focussed me, much to the amusement of my son, who had no such inhibitions!

In addition to the rainy season opening it's gates, I am approaching my third week of recovering from a total hip replacement and haven't been cleared to hit the trails yet. :-) So, I thought I'd post a few photos out of the archives....for now.

L&C train 14 has just departed Lancaster and is seen rolling westbound towards Richburg on a misty and rainy morning with a G&O painted GP40-2LW leading the L&C blue high hood GP38AC, and a recently acquired MP15DC. location : Nanzenji Temple Tenjyuan ,Kyoto city ,Kyoto Prefecture,Japan

南禅寺 天授庵

Tenjyuan :

Tenjyuan is one of the most historically important temple of the Nanzenji. It was built as a dedication of the founder of the Nanzenji , Daiminkokushi Mukanfumon .

In 1267 the Emperpor Kameyama, enchanted with the natural beauty of the spot, elected a villa on the site where where the Nanzenji Temple now stands. Around 1288 the emperor was vexed by the appearance of a ghost and asked for help from Daiminkokushi ,the third Chief Priest of the Tofukuji Temple.

The priest rid Emperor Kameyama of the gost by merely performing Zazen meditations without reciting a single sutra.

The emperor was deeply moved by this demonstration of the priest's virtue and subsequently became became his disciple, giving himself the name Hoo("Great Priest").He later converted his villa into zen temple and dedicated it to Daiminkokushi. These events took place in Hoo's later years ; the priest died before the coversation of the villa was complete. It was left for a priest named Kiansoen, the successor of Daiminkokushi.to finish the work and inaugurate the zen temple. For this reason little credit for the task is given to Daiminkokushi himself. In 1336 Kokakushiren, the 15th chief priest of Nanzen Ji Temple, asked the retired Emperor Kogon for permission to construct a building commemorating the founding of the temple by Daiminkokushi.Construction on the building was completed in the following year(1337),hence the opening of the Tenjyuan.

Tenjyuan, however ,was destroyed in the Nanzenji conflagration of 1447 .Nor was the temple spared destraction by fire during the Onin War ( 1467-1477). More then 130 years passed before the temple was finally reconstructed.

Many of the temples destroyed by wars were reconstructed in the last quarter of the 16th century, when Japan enjoyed a period of political stability. The priests of Nanzenji agreed that the Tenjyuan be reconstructed by one of the most famous Zen priests of Kyoto,Genporeisan. He appointed Ungakureikei chief priest of the Tenjyuan ,and asked the daimyo Hosokawa Yusei to finance the enterprise. Thanks to generous contribution of Hosokawa, the reconstruction of the Main Hall, the Main Gate, and the old study was completed in August ,1602.These are the Tenjyuan buildings that stand today.

The garden consists of the front ,or eastern, garden of the Main Hall, and the southern garden near the Study.

***The eastern garden is a rock garden. A geometrically designed stone footpath embedded in white sand and moss connects the Main Hall with the Maingate. This footpath was made 1338 after the original construction of the Tenjyuan.

The other ,shorter stone footpath leading to Yusai's mausoleum was made after Yusai's death in1610.***

The layout of the southern garden clearly illustrates the characteristics of late 14th century landscaping. The two central islands in particular epitomize this style. A long penninsula extending from the study and a smaller penninsula extending from the other side meet to form a curling clasp, creating an eastern and western pond. The shorelines of the two ponds so divided are thus varied.

The eastern pond is smaller than the other and has a slopping bank.In addition to this landscaping technique, the arrangement of rocks near the waterfall indicates that the garden was made around the time of the construction of the Tenjyuan in 1337.

Sommerhausen is a market in the Würzburg district of Lower Franconia and a member of the Eibelstadt administrative community. Apart from the main town there are no other parts of the municipality.

Sommerhausen is located on the right bank of the Main, 13 kilometers south of Würzburg. In addition to viticulture, tourism and the art scene play a major role. Sommerhausen is surrounded by Ochsenfurt in the east and south, and Eibelstadt borders the municipality in the north. Directly opposite Sommerhausen, on the west bank of the Main, is the town of Winterhausen. The curious names of the two towns have their origins in the church patrons. The Sommerhäuser church patron Bartholomew has his memorial day in the summer (August 24th), the Winterhäuser church patron Nicholas in the winter (December 6th).

Sommerhausen has been an important community on the Main since the Middle Ages. It was not subordinate to the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg. The Limpurg taverns came to Sommerhausen in 1413 through the marriage of the tavern Friedrich and Elisabetha von Hohenlohe. As part of the Speckfeld rule of the heirs of Counts Schenk von Limpurg (first Counts Pückler, then Counts Rechteren-Limpurg), which was mediated by Bavaria, Sommerhausen belonged to the Franconian Imperial Circle from 1500. From 1540 onwards, the Reformation was introduced in the Limpurg region, so that Sommerhausen became a Protestant enclave in the predominantly Catholic Main Franconia.

In 1810 it came to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg during territorial consolidation, with which it returned to Bavaria in 1814. As part of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818. In 1896/1897 the community had a Main bridge built.

The place, nestled in the valley of the Main under vineyards, has been the flagship of Franconian romanticism for decades. The medieval city wall has been preserved. All the buildings in the town center in the narrow, winding streets look back on several hundred years of history. The town hall dates back to the 16th century.

Lower Franconia (German: Unterfranken) is one of seven districts of Bavaria, Germany. The districts of Lower, Middle and Upper Franconia make up the region of Franconia. It consists of nine districts and 308 municipalities (including three cities).

After the founding of the Kingdom of Bavaria the state was totally reorganised and, in 1808, divided into 15 administrative government regions (German: Regierungsbezirke, singular Regierungsbezirk), in Bavaria called Kreise (singular: Kreis). They were created in the fashion of the French departements, quite even in size and population, and named after their main rivers.

In the following years, due to territorial changes (e. g. loss of Tyrol, addition of the Palatinate), the number of Kreise was reduced to 8. One of these was the Untermainkreis (Lower Main District). In 1837 king Ludwig I of Bavaria renamed the Kreise after historical territorial names and tribes of the area. This also involved some border changes or territorial swaps. Thus the name Untermainkreis changed to Lower Franconia and Aschaffenburg, but the city name was dropped in the middle of the 20th century, leaving just Lower Franconia.

From 1933, the regional Nazi Gauleiter, Otto Hellmuth, (who had renamed his party Gau "Mainfranken") insisted on renaming the government district Mainfranken as well. He encountered resistance from Bavarian state authorities but finally succeeded in having the name of the district changed, effective 1 June 1938. After 1945 the name Unterfranken was restored.

Franconia (German: Franken, pronounced [ˈfʁaŋkŋ̍]; Franconian: Franggn [ˈfrɑŋɡŋ̍]; Bavarian: Frankn) is a region of Germany, characterised by its culture and Franconian dialect (German: Fränkisch).

Franconia is made up of the three Regierungsbezirke of Lower, Middle and Upper Franconia in Bavaria, the adjacent, Franconian-speaking, South Thuringia, south of the Thuringian Forest—which constitutes the language boundary between Franconian and Thuringian— and the eastern parts of Heilbronn-Franconia in Baden-Württemberg.

Those parts of the Vogtland lying in Saxony (largest city: Plauen) are sometimes regarded as Franconian as well, because the Vogtlandian dialects are mostly East Franconian. The inhabitants of Saxon Vogtland, however, mostly do not consider themselves as Franconian. On the other hand, the inhabitants of the Hessian-speaking parts of Lower Franconia west of the Spessart (largest city: Aschaffenburg) do consider themselves as Franconian, although not speaking the dialect. Heilbronn-Franconia's largest city of Heilbronn and its surrounding areas are South Franconian-speaking, and therefore only sometimes regarded as Franconian. In Hesse, the east of the Fulda District is Franconian-speaking, and parts of the Oden Forest District are sometimes regarded as Franconian for historical reasons, but a Franconian identity did not develop there.

Franconia's largest city and unofficial capital is Nuremberg, which is contiguous with Erlangen and Fürth, with which it forms the Franconian conurbation with around 1.3 million inhabitants. Other important Franconian cities are Würzburg, Bamberg, Bayreuth, Ansbach and Coburg in Bavaria, Suhl and Meiningen in Thuringia, and Schwäbisch Hall in Baden-Württemberg.

The German word Franken—Franconians—also refers to the ethnic group, which is mainly to be found in this region. They are to be distinguished from the Germanic people of the Franks, and historically formed their easternmost settlement area. The origins of Franconia lie in the settlement of the Franks from the 6th century in the area probably populated until then mainly by the Elbe Germanic people in the Main river area, known from the 9th century as East Francia (Francia Orientalis). In the Middle Ages the region formed much of the eastern part of the Duchy of Franconia and, from 1500, the Franconian Circle. The restructuring of the south German states by Napoleon, after the demise of the Holy Roman Empire, saw most of Franconia awarded to Bavaria." - info from Wikipedia.

A very interesting addition that was brand new into the Lakeside fleet in January 2020 is this Alexander-Dennis, Enviro 400MMC. It was purchased to bring some school contracts to DDA spec away from coaches, also with the additional role of been used for rail replacement. One unexpected use in late July 2020 is use on the commercially operated 449 Ellesmere to Oswestry service, usually the domain of Solos or Solo SRs, thought to be used to help with social distancing capacity on some trips due to covid related regulations currently in play.

Double deckers as a rule are not common with Shropshire operators, certainly not brand new and this is the first double decker to be owned and operated by Lakeside so been purchased brand new is impressive.

In addition to the oddly-fluted, ex-SP cars used in the business car fleet, BNSF maintains a handful of other obscure bilevels at their Topeka, KS shops. In the background, their two ex-ATSF Hi-Level Snow Coaches lay over on the old roundhouse tracks, along with their power cars. In the foreground is BNSF 87, the Skagit River. The 87 is one of the manned Track Measurement cars, and it's another ex-SP commuter car.

Here, it was backing out of the Shops and onto the Main at 51, before heading east to KC with the 6842 on the point. However, it would have to wait for the arrival of the Lawrence Local before taking off.
