Hagerstown, Indiana (September 10, 2012) The new Model T Ford Museum is slated to hold its grand opening during Richmond’s Octoberfest on September 28 at 6 p.m. The museum which was previously located in Centerville, Indiana near the Warm Glow Candle Factory for 5 years moved just a few miles east to Richmond, Indiana’s Historical Depot District this past spring.
Since the move to Richmond volunteers have been steadily preparing the museum’s new home, displays and vehicles for the event.
Today, a photo shoot for the Model T Museum’s newly acquired 1930 Pietenpol Sky Scout was held at the Hagerstown Airport.
The plan arrived at the airport around 10:00 a.m. this morning and was assembled by Model T enthusiasts and many of them brought their own Model Ts to use during the photo shoot.
One of the people there today was Mr. Jay Klehfoth who is the CEO and publisher of the Vintage Ford Magazine.
Jay is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to all things Model T. I was to learn he’s pretty knowledgeable in a lot of areas too. During our walk around of the plane Jay pointed out one of the parts for the engine had been made by a former factory in Richmond of all places. And there are many other special things about this airplane I’m sure he’ll be writing about in the next issue of the the Vintage Ford Magazine. He not only knew a lot about the Pietenpol Sky Scout plane that was being photographed for the magazine cover. He’s pretty sharp when it comes to airports too. He said that the Hagerstown airport were today’s photo shoot was done has the longest grass landing strip in the United States which to me made it the perfect place for today’s event.
This Pietenpol that will be on display at the museum is powered by a 20 HP Model T engine which was modified to include dual-ignition which is used in aviation. According to an article in the AntiqueAirfield.com website from September 10, 2012 there was only one original Pietenpol Sky Scout built by Bernard Pietenpol himself, and just two replicas. The article also said that all 3 were still flying.
The new Model T Ford Museum is going to be an exciting addition to what is one of Indiana’s grandest historical areas and a must in this part of the Midwest.
Richmond is a perfect place for any day trip. But, if you want to see all that Richmond has to offer you’ll need to plan on staying several days.
The Model T Ford Museum is located in Richmond’s Historic Depot District at 309 N 8th St, Richmond, IN 47374 - 765-488-0026.

First World War memorial designed by Sir Herbert Baker FRIBA RA, unveiled 1921, with later additions for the Second World War.
The contractor was Messrs Holloway and Son, who also built Sir Edwin Lutyens’ Southampton Cenotaph (Grade I listed). A stone from Ypres Cloth Hall was incorporated in the structure. The memorial was unveiled on 31 October 1921 by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Major-General Seely MP, and dedicated by the Dean of the cathedral. Following the Second World War inscriptions were added to commemorate losses in that conflict.
The Portland stone memorial stands in Winchester Cathedral Close outside the west end of the Cathedral (Grade I listed). Viewed from the west looking east, the memorial cross is framed dramatically by the cathedral’s great west window. Either side of the memorial, stone steps lead down to the lower forecourt immediately in front of the cathedral’s western entrances.
The tall memorial cross comprises a wheel-head cross rising from a moulded collar on an octagonal cross shaft. The circlet of the wheel-head is formed by roses and lilies (representing England and France) that trail down the Latin cross head to the top of the shaft. The cross shaft ends in a moulded foot, around the top of which are carved the coats of arms of Winchester City, the Hampshire Regiment, Hampshire County Council and the Isle of Wight. The west face of the bottom of the cross shaft is inscribed 1914/ +/ 1919, whilst the east face is inscribed 1939/ +/ 1945.
The cross shaft stands on a two-stage base, octagonal in plan. The upper stage comprises an octagonal drum with a shallow circular head. The inscription 1914 1919 HE SHALL DELIVER THEIR SOULS FROM FALSEHOOD AND WRONG: AND DEAR SHALL THEIR BLOOD BE IN HIS SIGHT is carved in relief around the circular head. The inscriptions to faces of the upper stage include:
(west face) TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN/ PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF FOUR HUNDRED AND SIXTY/ CITIZENS OF WINCHESTER/ WHO UPHELD UNDER KING/ GEORGE V THE TRADITIONS/ OF SERVICE AND SACRIFICE/ HANDED DOWN FROM THE/ DAYS OF KING ALFRED
(east face) TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND/ IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL / MEMORY OF THE UNCOUNTED/ HOST FROM HAMPSHIRE AND THE/ ISLE OF WIGHT WHO DIED FOR/ ENGLAND IN THE GREAT WAR/ WHEN SERVING IN THE NAVY/ THE MERCANTILE MARINE THE/ ARMY AND THE AIR FORCE/ BE MINDFUL OF THEM O LORD/ AND GRANT TO THEIR CHILDREN/ THE SAME FAITHFULNESS
The base of this stage is inscribed AND OF THOSE WHO SO FREELY GAVE THEIR LIVES 1939-1945 REMEMBER ALSO THEIR SONS AND DAUGHTERS WHO DIED 1939-1945
The lower stage of the base carries the structure from the highest step to the level of the forecourt below. On this stage’s east face the First and Second World War dedications to the Hampshire Regiment read 1914-1919/ TO SEVEN THOUSAND FIVE/ HUNDRED AND FORTY-ONE OF THE/ REGULAR, MILITIA, TERRITORIAL/ & SERVICE BATTALIONS OF THE/ HAMPSHIRE REGIMENT/ WHO DIED IN FLANDERS FRANCE/ ITALY RUSSIA, MACEDONIA/ PALESTINE EGYPT MESOPOTAMIA/ PERSIA INDIA AND SERBIA/ THE DARDANELLES OR WERE/ LOST AT SEA IN THE MEDITERRANEAN/ 1939-1945/ TWO THOUSAND & NINETY FOUR/ DIED ON LAND SEA AND IN THE AIR
To either side of that inscription, blocks of four stages dying back to the uppermost stage extend from the base into the forecourt. Each block carries a large bronze wreath laid on top of the uppermost stage. Small roses carved in low relief ornament the stage below. Inscriptions on the south-east block read:
(east face) TO SEVENTY FOUR/ OF THE HAMPSHIRE/YEOMANRY CARABINIERS
(north face) TO THREE HUNDRED/ AND EIGHTY SIX OF THE/ ROYAL ENGINEERS/ AND THE HAMPSHIRE/ ROYAL ARTILLERY
Inscriptions on the north-east block read:
(south face) TO FORTY EIGHT/ OF THE/ ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS/ AND THE HAMPSHIRE/ ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS
(east face) TO SEVEN HUNDRED/ AND THIRTY SEVEN OF/ HMS HAMPSHIRE SUNK BY/ A MINE OFF THE ORKNEY/ ISLANDS JUNE 5TH 1916
In addition to providing surfaces for these inscriptions, the two blocks frame a section of the lowest step in the forecourt, providing a sheltered space for the placing of wreaths and floral tributes. The surface in front of the memorial, within this sheltered space, incorporates the Ypres Cloth Hall stone. This is carved with a cross of Lorraine and Ypres.

Key Bank Building. 1915, 1924 - Architects: Mobray and Uffinger, New York - Addition: 1928, T. Walter Gaggin, Syracuse - Renovation of interior: circa 1960, Hawley McFee, Syracuse -- Originally built in May of 1915 as the First National Bank. Within five years, a merger turned it into the old First Trust and Deposit Company, the name it kept until it turned into Key Bank in 1980. This Neo-classical Revival style building now serves as Key Bank's Central New York district headquarters. The bank's history goes back to 1832 because it regards the Bank of Salina as its ancestor. The building is of steel-frame construction and faced with granite, marble and terra cotta. The pedimented entrance is flanked by modified Corinthian columns. The Fluted pilasters articulate the facades and lions' heads embellish the attic level, which is faced with terra cotta tiles. The size of the building was doubled when additions were made to the south. In the early 1960s, interior renovations included the addition of a mezzanine, the covering of plaster columns (they are now encased in wood due to being damaged by a fire) and a fourth-floor remodeling. Key Bank has added a colorful new decorative LED lighting scheme to its exterior. It has at least 45 potential variations in color. Two of which are, orange and blue for when Syracuse University has a big game and red and green during the Christmas season. The lights will illuminate the detailed cornice -- replete with lion's heads -- atop all three walls that face city streets. The lights will also illuminate an entire eastern wall, visible from City Hall, Washington Street and from an adjacent parking lot where the old Yates Hotel once stood. Adam was born to a multi-talented beauty queen Mother and a Father who, in addition to being a US Army Spy and a Counter-Intelligence Special Agent, was also a highly accomplished entrepreneur. Adam was taught at a young age that, in both life and business, loyalty is a requirement for success. He’s had the honor of working directly with his father in several of the family businesses. In fact, this is where he learned crucial entrepreneurial skills and honed his talents with international business strategies and venture capitalism.
Adam earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in International Business and Marketing from the University of Utah. He was hand-picked by the President of the University’s renowned School of Business to compete with dozens of other ambitious nationwide-graduates for the opportunity to secure a lucrative job within a prestigious Fortune 100 company.
Adam‘s hard work and creativity helped him land this job of a lifetime. He obtained incredible business experience there and spent years innovating, improving processes and setting sales records. Although this dream job in Traditional Corporate America was a fun challenge for him, and something he truly enjoyed mastering, Adam’s natural entrepreneurial spirit kept nudging him to do something more significant with his time and talents.
Since 2001, Adam has been involved in the Health and Wellness Industry as a successful Entrepreneur, Broker, Product Developer and Manufacturer of Cosmeceutical products. During his career, he has worked with some of the most recognizable Fortune 500 businesses along with many top international Network Marketing companies. Adam has consistently proven his unique ability to help his clients achieve their goals through creative Distribution-Channel Placement, innovative Product Development and custom Manufacturing. Adam currently owns three profitable businesses.
Admittedly, Adam was not initially a fan of Network Marketing. He did not understand the business model because it was new to him. However, once he learned that the REAL focus of Direct Sales is to help average people get a taste of entrepreneurialism --- with minimal risk and at a low cost --- Adam was absolutely convinced of the potential with Multi-Level Marketing.
Since joining the company as one of the original 11 founding distributors, Adam has discovered that many of his life-goals truly do align perfectly with Network Marketing. Adam enjoys helping others find significance. Adam is most grateful for the complete time-freedom he has with his fantastic wife and five children. It’s my pleasure to introduce you to Adam Paul Green, MXI Corp Ambassador and Multi-Millionaire Earner.

This is a great little secret tucked away on a corner where you wouldn't likely expect to find any commerce anymore. Some of the city's best BBQ pork bun and dim sum are available here from 8am to 4pm everyday but Sunday. For a Chinese breakfast or lunch, it's great, but as a convenience store, 8am-4pm are very inconvenient hours.
Whereas most commercial additions in Sacramento are concrete or cinderblock additions in front of victorians, bungalows, or other early 20th-century homes, this is one of the few commercial additions in Sac which seems to be of the same type of construction and siding as the house.

In the Golden Temple, in addition to a large queue of people standing in queue, there were a number of people sitting and listening to the religious songs by a group in front of the Akal Takht. In addition, there are people visiting other parts of the complex, including rooms where devotees can stay, accessible through a staircase that takes them to a slightly higher level.
The Golden Temple is one of the most famous monuments in Amritsar, in the state of Punjab in North India. It is the spiritiual headquarters of the Sikh religion, and is a very well visited place. Besides Sikhs, people from other religions visit the temple, it being an open place. The temple is also referred to as the Harmandir Sahib or the Darbar Sahib, and was built during the 16th century by the fifth Sikh Guru (completed in the year 1604), Guru Arjan Dev around a holy tank. Earlier to this, in 1577, the fourth Guru, Guru Ram Das ji excavated a tank which came to be known as Amritsar. The Harmandir Sahib symbolizes openess, and has four doors to depict the same. Over a period of time, modifications were done, such as the layering of gold over the dome by the ruler of the time, Maharajah Ranjit Singh.
The holy nature of the Golden Temple is also symbolized by the presence of the Holy Book of the Sikhs, the Guru Granth Sahib. The central structure of the Gurudwara is surrounded by a holy tank of water, with a causeway over this body of water. There are some restrictions for entering the site, such as the removal of shoes before entering (and washing ones feet in a small pool of water as well), covering the hair through a scarf or some other cloth, and ensuring that they show proper respect towards the central shrine.
The Golden Temple is also the location for a major military operation (Operation Blue Star in 1984), where the Indian Army went in against Sikh militants lead by Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale inside the compound of the Golden Temple, with bullets and even machine guns inside the compound. The operation was a major operation, with the death of more than 500 people reported (including soldiers, militants and civilians). It was also very controversial, since this was seen as an attack on the spiritual center of Sikhs, and lead to some desertions in the army, and also an attack on the Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, by her own Sikh bodyguards which resulted in her death.

The church of St Nicholas in the tiny hamlet of Barfrestone was founded in the late 11th century by a Norman knight called Hugo de Port and was remodelled around 1180 with the addition of over 100 superb carvings which were probably funded by Adam de Port, Hugo's great-grandson, as thanks for a beneficial marriage he contracted in that same year.
Barfreston is located on the route that was travelled by thousands of Medieval pilgrims on their way to the shrine of St Thomas Becket at Canterbury. A likeness of Becket is carved over the south door, the first known example in England.
The church is small - less than 50 feet from west to east - and is a complete two-cell Norman church unlike any other in Kent. Its lower walls are constructed of flint rubble, but its upper courses and dressed stonework are made of imported Caen stone (the same stone that was used to build Canterbury Cathedral). Kent has no local stone that can handle fine carving, so the excellent detail here is unrivalled in the county.
The south door is a masterpiece of Norman sculpture, and the tympanum and arches contain some of the finest Norman carvings in Britain. A figure of Christ stands at the centre of the tympanum, and two mermaids, a griffin, and a figure of a sphinx are at his feet. The door frame is composed of three bands of carvings which represent a wide variety of religious symbols, mythical birds and creatures, signs of the zodiac, and scenes from medieval domestic life. There is also some fine medieval graffiti on the dressed stonework - both inside and out.
A frieze of carved human and animal heads runs around three sides of the Church. The north door is beautifully carved as well, with a pair of grotesque heads facing each other across the door opening.
The east end of the Church has a large wheel window with eight spokes and more carvings set in niches in the wall.
The church has no tower, so the bell is hung from the boughs of a yew tree outside the west side of the nave.
The interior, although simple, has a superbly carved Norman string course in the nave and chancel, with Norman dog-tooth designs and figures of animals and humans.

Taraxacum (/təˈræksəkəm/)[3] is a large genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, which consists of species commonly known as dandelions. The scientific and hobby study of the genus is known as taraxacology.[4] The genus is native to Eurasia and North America, but the two most commonplace species worldwide, T. officinale (the common dandelion) and T. erythrospermum (the red-seeded dandelion), were introduced from Europe into North America, where they now propagate as wildflowers.[5] Both species are edible in their entirety.[6] The common name dandelion (/ˈdændəlaɪ.ən/ DAN-də-ly-ən; from French dent-de-lion 'lion's tooth') is also given to specific members of the genus.
Like other members of the family Asteraceae, they have very small flowers collected together into a composite flower head. Each single flower in a head is called a floret. In part due to their abundance, along with being a generalist species, dandelions are one of the most vital early spring nectar sources for a wide host of pollinators.[7] Many Taraxacum species produce seeds asexually by apomixis, where the seeds are produced without pollination, resulting in offspring that are genetically identical to the parent plant.[8]
In general, the leaves are 50–250 mm (2–10 in) long or longer, simple, lobed-to-pinnatisect, and form a basal rosette above the central taproot. The flower heads are yellow to orange coloured, and are open in the daytime, but closed at night. The heads are borne singly on a hollow stem (scape) that is usually leafless and rises 10–100 mm (3⁄8–3+7⁄8 in) or more[5] above the leaves. Stems and leaves exude a white, milky latex when broken. A rosette may produce several flowering stems at a time. The flower heads are 20–50 mm (3⁄4–2 in) in diameter and consist entirely of ray florets. The flower heads mature into spherical seed heads sometimes called blowballs[9] or clocks (in both British and American English)[10][11][12][13] containing many single-seeded fruits called achenes. Each achene is attached to a pappus of fine hair-like material which enables wind-aided dispersal over long distances.[citation needed]
The flower head is surrounded by bracts (sometimes mistakenly called sepals) in two series. The inner bracts are erect until the seeds mature, then flex downward to allow the seeds to disperse. The outer bracts are often reflexed downward, but remain appressed in plants of the sections Palustria and Spectabilia. Between the pappus and the achene is a stalk called a beak, which elongates as the fruit matures. The beak breaks off from the achene quite easily, separating the seed from the parachute.[citation needed]
Description
These are individual pollen grains of the dandelion - Taraxacum officinale.
Segment of pappus fiber showing barbs
The species of Taraxacum are tap-rooted, perennial, herbaceous plants, native to temperate areas of the Northern Hemisphere. The genus contains many species, which usually (or in the case of triploids, obligately) reproduce by apomixis, resulting in many local populations and endemism. In the British Isles alone, 234 microspecies (i.e. morphologically distinct clonal populations) are recognised in nine loosely defined sections, of which 40 are "probably endemic".[14] A number of species of Taraxacum are seed-dispersed ruderals that rapidly colonize disturbed soil, especially the common dandelion (T. officinale), which has been introduced over much of the temperate world. After flowering is finished, the dandelion flower head dries out for a day or two. The dried petals and stamens drop off, the bracts reflex (curve backwards), and the parachute ball opens into a full sphere. When development is complete, the mature seeds are attached to white, fluffy "parachutes" which easily detach from the seedhead and glide by wind, dispersing.
The seeds are able to cover large distances when dispersed due to the unique morphology of the pappus which works to create a unique type of vortex ring[15][16] that stays attached to the seed rather than being sent downstream. In addition to the creation of this vortex ring, the pappus can adjust its morphology depending on the moisture in the air. This allows the plume of seeds to close up and reduce the chance to separate from the stem, waiting for optimal conditions that will maximize dispersal and germination.[17][18] Wikipedia

12294 Harris Road, Pitt Meadows, BC.
Statement of Significance:
Description of Historic Place:
The Pitt Meadows General Store and Post Office is a two-storey Foursquare house, altered on the ground floor to accommodate a store, with later shed roof additions on three sides. Located on the east side of Harris Road, the historic commercial centre of the District of Pitt Meadows, this building is adjacent to a grouping of Pitt Meadows' most significant heritage sites.
Heritage Value:
The heritage value of the Pitt Meadows General Store and Post Office is associated with the earliest development of the original town centre of Pitt Meadows. This building is a landmark component of the Harris Road historic grouping, dating from the time when Pitt Meadows was developing rapidly as an agricultural town and Harris Road was its commercial, administrative and community centre. This location was close to the Canadian Pacific Railway, enabling the store to receive imported goods for resale.
The building is historically significant as Pitt Meadows' first General Store and Post Office, and its growth and development mirrors that of the community. The post office was located in the wing on the south side of the building. The Struthers family took over the business in 1921 and the building was used as a general store up until 1931, when they built a larger new store just to the south. This building remained a residence for some members of the family, and a storage facility for the new store. The Post Office continued to operate out of the building, with William Struthers as Post Master until 1944, when Robert Thorburn became the new Post Master and set up in a separate building at the corner of McMyn and Harris Roads.
Additionally, the Pitt Meadows General Store and Post Office is significant for its architectural evolution, from a two-storey Foursquare house to a general store and residence. In 1908, the partially constructed building was moved on log rollers from Herring Road to its present site, using a team of horses. The building evolved through utilitarian additions necessitated by the growth of the business. It has retained many exterior features that demonstrate its evolution, such as the recessed entrance and plate glass storefront windows from the 1908 conversion. Much of the interior spatial configuration has remained intact, including many interior finishes.
Additionally, the site is now valued for its interpretive and educational value as an integral part of the Pitt Meadows Museum and Archives, and demonstrates the value that the District of Pitt Meadows places on its heritage. From the mid 1990s the building remained unoccupied and in disrepair until the District of Pitt Meadows purchased the property in late in 1997, and undertook its restoration. In June 1998, the Pitt Meadows Heritage and Museum Society moved in and the building became the home of the Pitt Meadows Museum and Archives.

Character-Defining Elements:
Key elements that define the heritage character of the Pitt Meadows General Store and Post Office include its:
- location on Harris Road, adjacent to the CPR right-of-way
- relationship with the historic Hoffmann and Son Shop and House, which is located across Harris Road
- form, scale and massing, as expressed by its two-storey height and regular Foursquare plan with a rear two-storey addition and one-storey side extensions
- hipped roof with cedar shingles and shed roof extensions
- wood-frame construction with bevelled wooden siding and concrete foundation
- additional architectural details, such as recessed front entrance with double doors and plate glass windows, cantilevered canopy over entry, and internal red-brick chimney
- fenestration with double-hung 2-over-2 and 6-over-6 wooden sash windows, some with upper sash horns, and double-hung 1-over-1 wooden sash in the rear extension
- interior configuration with ground floor retail space, residential rooms to south side and upstairs, and kitchen at rear
- interior features, including wooden interior elements such as wainscoting, tongue-and-groove cladding and floors, and fireplace with glazed tile chimneypiece
We noticed these recent additions to this roadside display on our way to a newrby shopping centre. I captured more of these during my birthday photowalk in December.
Large two storey simplified Prairie Style house with large one storey addition to the left. Prairie forms with some Florida touches. "The exterior recognizes the influence of the prairie, is firmly and broadly associated with the site, and makes a feature of its quiet level," Wright wrote in the February 1901 "Ladies Home Journal" article that accompanied the first nationwide publication of "A Home in a Prairie Town" introducing this design to the American public. "The low terraces and broad eaves are designed to accentuate that quiet level and complete the harmonious relationship."
Typical of Prairie Style are the hip roof forms and turning the floor plan so that the short sides face the street. The front porch in a more refined Prairie Style house would have a hip roof as well (or both roofs would be flat, someting that would have worked in Florida much better than do the originals in the Chicago suburbs with all that snow). The horizontal porch railing/wall is also a nice Prairie Style touch. You can see where the front porch gable roof end was severed, probably when the awkward carport was added.
If the windows were continuous on the second floor, and if the eave soffit were enclosed, the look would be more obviously Prairie. Even so, it is worth comparing with the Abert Muther House of (1912) designed by Isabel Robert's friend, co-worker, neighbor and sometime boss William E. Drummond.

Cornelius Cruser House (1722, additions 1770 and 1836)
1262 Richmond Terr.
Livingston
West New Brighton, Staten Island
The original one-room cottage (at the extreme left) was built for Cornelius Van Santvoord (1696–1752) , a Dutch Reformed minister. He had recently married Annetje Staats (1700–40) in 1721. They sold the house and moved to Schenectady around 1740–42.
Cornelius Cruser (1708–86) bought the property in 1751 and built the central addition. His wife was Belitje de Groot (1727–1815). Later his son John Cruser and his wife Mary Tooker owned the house.
Loyalist General Cortlandt Skinner (1727–99) used the house as his headquarters during the Revolutionary War. The Crusers and their in-laws were divided between revolutionary and loyalist sympathies.
Daniel Pelton (1788–1867) bought the house in 1835. He married Catherine Cortelyou van Arsdale (1788–1862) in 1813. He built the brick addition in 1836. He was an abolitionist and may have used the house as part of the Underground Railroad.
