Another addition to my Strong Woman Series. This is a portrait of Liz who contacted me this week and asked if I'd like to photograph her vintage Mustang. Of course I was more than willing to photograph her car but I was more intrigued in taking a portrait of her with the car. You see, Liz lost her Father suddenly last year. He was a great inspiration to her and they had bought the car together for her.
Her contacting me gave me the final piece to what my "strong woman" series is to be about. What it's not about is physically strong women, which is too obvious a concept. It's really about what gives a woman their strength, that thing that gets them thru the day. In Liz's case her strength is in her Father and although he's now gone that strength lives on for her in the Mustang.
I thought this would be a beautiful and touching portrait and I'm really glad I was able to take it for her. I composed the picture with the Mustang in back of her as if her Father were right behind her as she makes her way thru life. I like that we only see little bits of the Mustang but we still know what it is. The letter "O" in Ford is in the perfect position for her line of site and has the look of a little halo! This was a happy accident but it works better than anything I could have thought of.
Kate and Travis have no bedrooms till the addition is ready. They could sleep in the camper but for some reason they prefer the central air in the house. Go figure.
The latest addition to Caledonian MacBrayne's fleet - several years late and hundreds of millions of pounds overbudget and delivered in November 2024 - visited the Western Isles in the first few days of January 2025 for berthing and endurance trials to assess her possibilities as a future relief vessel on both the Ullapool to Stornoway and Uig Triangle route.
She berthed overnight at Stornoway on 3 January, and carried out berthing trials there as well as at Lochmaddy and Tarbert (Harris) before moving onto Ullapool for overnight berthing, and testing that linkspan the next morning before returning south. Trials at Uig (Skye) were not carried out due to further construction works there that the Highland Council call "port authority restrictions". She will likely visit there for trials another time in the future.
She is due to enter service on the Troon to Brodick service she was built to serve on 13 January, although Ardrossan still requires significant rebuilding to accommodate her.
I managed to photographer her at both Stornoway and Tarbert, as shown here. She certainly looks to be a very impressive vessel in spite of the controversy surrounding both her and Glen Rosa's procurement process. I look forward to my first sailing on her.
Two days later, the sewer connection was finished and buried. Eventually the entire driveway will be repaved, so it's going to be left like this (dirt) for a while.

Spacious, cozy and warm sunroom with smooth cedar ceilings,skylights, custom windows and doors in home in The Medallion Golf Course Area of Delaware County.
The area was originally a 3 season porch. The existing deck was supported while the demolition/construction of the addition was being performed. The entire structure was removed down to the foundation. The foundation was built to match the height of the existing house. According to the supplied architectural plans, the new structure was built. The roof lines were integrated into one another, siding was blended from old to new, and the deck was attached to the new addition. The new addition was to accommodate the new kitchen. All the necessary pluming, electrical, and structural work was performed. The new kitchen featured a cathedral ceiling, sky light, oak floors, granite countertops, custom cabinetry, a teak center island and dining table.
We've changed his name from Ryan to Rowan -- since BIL's name is Ryan. (It would have been too weird.)
Meet Dexter, a Red Catahoula Leopard dog. He is a wonderful companion and fast learner. He's filling the empty space in my heart when Zoey passed away, and helping me heal inside.

MRL's Laurel-Bozeman turn sits in Livingston, with a BNSF engine on the front of the train. For some reason, the engine was being put on the train, to be brought back to Laurel. Unfortunately, it was placed on the train here, which meant it would lead for the run over Bozeman Pass, and into Bozeman.
In addition to meeting with the leaders from around the world, it was critical for the Europe Team Leaders to meet and plan for the future.
Howard County Library System engaged the Homewood School as a community school partner in 2022. In addition to providing traditional educational supports through the A Plus Partnership with Howard County Public School System, this unique partnership also helps provide students with soft supports needed for them to thrive. Some of these have included funding for a washing machine and dryer, grooming and special programming to spark creativity and enthusiasm for education through the arts, such as the featured assembly in March by Arts for Learning Maryland.
Homewood is the only alternative school in Howard County. Its Gatewood program students are 100% low income, more than 90% African American and Latinx males, and many have experienced significant childhood trauma. There is no PTA at the school to help with fundraising.
HCLS received grant funding from the Community Foundation to support this community school initiative, which is in alignment with its equity goals.
