Heroin addiction can be tough but its symptoms are tougher to deal with. Its addiction may end up in death due to overdose if addicts are not checked into heroin drug treatment centers on time. We at the Recovery Concepts Greenville center are here to get you out of your habit.
Saying that too many people are not finding their way into treatment soon enough, Public Health Director Dr. Karyl Rattay told the almost 200 attending the Aug. 29 Addiction Medicine Symposium at the Ammon Center that DHSS will create a person-centered public treatment system with centers of excellence that not only customize treatment to each person’s needs, but also provides for their mental health and social service needs. “Our vision is really bring it all together,” she said.
Joining Dr. Rattay in providing opening remarks at the daylong event were Christiana Care CEO Dr. Janice Nevin; Dr. Terry Norton, the symposium organizer and chief of addiction medicine at Christiana Care; and Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long. Dr. Nevin said every person admitted to a Christiana Care facility is screened for addiction, and Lt. Gov. Hall-Long said Delaware is being looked at as the model for change. The fifth annual symposium was sponsored by Christiana Care and Central East ATTC, a program of The Danya Institute.
Dr. Rebecca Walker, chief operating officer of the Division of Forensic Science, and Lt. James T. Hulings of the Delaware State Police and deputy director of the Delaware Information and Analysis Center (DIAC), provided an analysis of the opiate crisis in Delaware and statewide data-sharing. Walker detailed the polysubstance use of the 308 people who died from overdoses in Delaware in 2016, and Hulings said crack cocaine is coming back, with a 89% increase in cases involving the drug over the last five years in Delaware. “We’re probably not going to see the death we see with heroin, but we are going to see the addiction,” he said. Law enforcement officials also are worried that labs that can produce fentanyl, the synthetic drug that is up to 50 times more potent than heroin, will start appearing in the U.S. Up until now, most of the fentanyl in the United States has been produced in labs in China or elsewhere.
Other speakers detailed the effects of trauma on people who suffer from addiction, the landscape of the opioid crisis in the U.S. and took part in a panel discussion of the opportunities and challenges in Delaware.

Premier Danielle Smith and Minister of Mental Health and Addiction Nicholas Milliken made a significant announcement at a CASA House in Sherwood Park on Monday, March 6, 2023, to improve access to mental health supports for youth.
Alberta’s government is partnering with CASA Mental Health to expand youth mental health supports to ensure youth across Alberta can access treatment closer to home.
Supporting children and youth who are struggling with mental health is an essential part of Alberta’s recovery-oriented system of mental health and addiction care. If passed, Budget 2023 would invest $92 million over three years to provide critical mental health supports for children and youth in partnerships with CASA Mental Health.
This $92-million investment would include capital and operating funding for two new inpatient CASA House sites in Fort McMurray and Calgary, expanding youth day treatment programs provincially, and the rollout of new mental health classrooms across Alberta.
Also in attendance were Nate Glubish, MLA for Strathcona-Sherwood Park, Jordan Walker, MLA for Sherwood Park, and Bonnie Blakley, CEO, CASA Mental Health. (photography by Chris Schwarz/Government of Alberta)

Tranquilizers are drugs usually prescribed by doctors and they treat various conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, panic attacks and various kinds of trauma. They regulate the amount of stimulation in the brain and this enables the patient to slow down and think clearly. These kinds of drugs have similar effects to alcohol and other sedatives. They can be addictive and this comes about from over dependence and constant usage from increase tolerance which calls for an increase of dosage. One such drug is Valium and Xanax.
An addiction to these drugs is very difficult to treat as it alters how the body and brain work. Therefore, a Valium Addiction will best be treated by professionals in rehabilitation facilities.
