my SIL and daughter have been giving a home to a relative with an addiction problem.
this weekend he had another melt-down and my SIL had to call the police to have him removed from the premises.
it was very hard for both he and jordan. john had just coded a car accident victim in the ER and was called home to handle this other problem.
we went over to give support.
tami, who was supposed to work night shift sat night, was over the hill. my granddaughter and her finance had driven over to the heat and almost made it when their car blew up. they were sitting in 104F temps and they were almost out of water. tami went over to get them. and stayed.
times have been hard for the family, all of us. we are all feeling stressed, even the 8 dogs involved.
and so it goes.

As photographers we always self edit and ensure that the very best of our work gets published ahead of anything else, sometimes we self edit harshly and at other times, perhaps, not harshly enough.
My back catalogue of unpublished street shots is enormous and, looking back through them retrospectively, quite a few of them really are not too bad at all. Some were perhaps overlooked, forgotten or even just skipped for something slightly better at the time. I though I might publish some of these older shots for a 'Flashback Friday' album, I hope you don't mind. This shot is from last year (2017), in May.
I just love the expression on this young woman's face, it looks to me like she is not enjoying one or both of these modern addictions. Wishing you all a smashing weekend of photography my friends!

For those who follow my adventure in China for a while, you can see that the mobile phone is, let say, "popular" on my portfolio... people always find time to play with their mobile even when they are supposed to be busy. When I'm in the bus or the metro, I often play the game to count how many people are not playing with their cellphone... the result is always terrific.
I have shot this photo in the old Qingdao. I've went one day to lost myself there by purpose in order to make some pictures. By the way, we are never totally lost, GPS in our friend!!
I have discovered a very narrow alley dedicated to street food. On both side, plenty of small open kitchens. It seems to be a popular spot in town... A perfect place to make some candid street portraits for me.
Almost all the people are waiting clients to come, cooking some food in advance and playing with phone in the same time.
I hope the lady won't forget skewers on the grill before it will get burned... This is China.

Phoenix Charity has opened a charity shop in Herford a very worthwhile charity by the sounds of it with a real artistic feel in the shop.
I was always 'the one' with the camera, but it wasn't until this past fall that I started using my camera as an extra appendage to my body. I know most of you can relate, when a family member says 'Really? You're taking a picture of that____(insert your noun)???' Or you slam on your brakes and pull off the road to take a shot of something that caught your eye. (This was taken in the fall, when I got hit hard with that strong Virus called Flickritis, lol)
My addiction could cost a LOT of money (if I had it) but so can many other addictions, and mine is good for my soul, and doesn't harm me or anyone else. So other than a gym and a healthy, clean eating addiction which I'm trying to work on and develop, this is a good addiction to have, i think.
This is a project for my photography class on addictions.
Her addiction is Alcohol.

Ok, i'm addicted to the sight and sound of waterfalls. This is the eight waterfall shot in my 365. I didn't see there was a duck in the frame until I processed it. Too boot, he stood still for 3". This is the type of shot I like to try on the weekend as I have (usually) more time on my hands.

once and for all. I have been a member of flickr since Jan 07. I have become hopelessly addicted and spend 6- 8 hours on flickr every day....90% of the time viewing and commenting on your pics.
Taking pics and posting has become a chore....trying to make Explore has dominated my thoughts too much. If I don't post pics or make "Explore" it causes me sadness. That's how bad I've become."
Pressure to keep up with commenting on ALL of my contact's pics everyday has left me no time to take pics or enjoy life. My mental and physical health has suffered as a result.
I am telling you all this because I have decided to make an overdue change. I'm not leaving flickr...but I am cutting my contact list down to about 20 instead of 150. I will only comment on ONE pix at your stream per day and will curtail my time on flickr to evenings...or weekends and only after I have taken care of other aspects of my day.
I will only post pics of my pets or wildlife if I think they are really really good. I do NOT expect any of you to coment on them....I will post only to use flickr as a place to keep my pics together and for my few remaining contacts. I hope you all understand. If you could see how neglected my appearance and home has become this year, you'd really understand.
I'm smiling here but I'm not very happy about my addiction and my forced curfew to rectify the problem.

Well, I haven't reduced my contact list since posting this back in 2008. I'm still posting / commenting on flickr everyday. I have not broken my Flickr addiction or changed my life. Oh well.....I'm sure one of these days I will.
