Big Red Robot aka Becoming Human, by Christian Ristow

The massive head and arms of the steel robot lay on the ground during its disassembling.

Becoming Human is a 30-foot tall sculpture of a robot, which occasionally smells the flower in its right hand. The sculpture hopes to inspire viewers to ask questions about technology and nature, and the value of slowing down.

Playa flies in front of the Man

Playaflies by Michael Brown and the Chinchilla camp.

Playa flies are bicycle mounted color-morphing light sculptures. They are made of ping-pong balls attached to wires hanging from a flexible mast attached to a bicycle. The ping-pong balls contain color-morphing LED's similar to those used in the cubatron. There were a dozen bicycles equipped like that on the playa.

Light Painting

This is the good work of Molly, using sparklers. The first sparkler burned off after "BURNING", so she used another one for "MAN". We did only one take (we had only 2 sparklers!), and the result was close to perfect!

And yes, the fact that the full-moon makes the dot on the "i" is pure luck! :)

On the right, the pirate ship "Fly me to the Moon" looks like a white moon crescent and is rigged like a ship. Built by Ryan Mathern on a 86 Chevy Astrovan chassis. He reversed the linkage and the boat drives in reverse.

Procession of the Mazu crew, an all-Chinese camp with amazing art and a Brazilian drum marching band.

The members of the Mazu camp were all Chinese, mostly from Taiwan, with some coming from Hong Kong and Mainland China (PRC, aka People's Republic of China).

The Beetle art car is based on the sub-frame of Walter Class 1500 Crash Truck (Fire truck).

Deer Cave in Gunung Mulu National Park (Borneo)

Deer Cave is a passage about 150 m (500 feet) in diameter and about 1 Km (0.6 Miles) long, opened on both end. It was, for many years, considered the largest single cave passage in the world.

Baba (Hindu devotee) with Tilaka (ritual marking on forehead) smoking a chillum of ritual cannabis at the Shivaratri 2013 (Nepal).

During the Shivaratri festival (the 'Great Night of Shiva'), thousands of Hindu devotees and pilgrims gather at the Pashupatinath Temple to pray and celebrate Lord Shiva. Smoking holy Ganja is part of the ritual.

The Bunny March is a flash-mob type event where all the bunnies of the city assemble and march to The Man, then to Center Camp, causing devastation and mayhem. They attached giant bunny ears to "The Man". Their leader is the Uber Bunny (Steven Raspa).
