This is the "Fusion" art car, created by Henry Chang, an hyper engineered fantasy dragster with 16 mufflers! Looks like it is entirely made of stainless steel, except for the tires rubber.

Called "Fusion" because the centerpiece was a fusion chamber at Las Alamos. Probably still slightly radioactive... wow!

Giant Table and Chairs

This is Brobdingnag, by InterArte.

From the Burning Man website: Brobdingnag is one of the countries Gulliver visited during his travels. It is the land of the giants. We want to recreate the situation of traveling to a foreign place where one has to reconstruct his ideas and thoughts of what is reality, how are things and objects really and how they appear.

The chairs will be so tall, they can only be climbed with the help of someone else. So people will have to come together, and support each other getting up and down. The stage like situation invites burners to interact and play with the environment, slip into the role of a child or a lilliput and with their own body, experience a different concept of size. In the presence of the giant table and chairs, the viewer will feel physically diminished and will be returned to the experiences of childhood adventure.

The sensation of being thrown off balance by the striking discrepancies in the scale of this setting is an invitation for people to think about existing structures in the default world

Playa flies in front of the Man

Playaflies by Michael Brown and the Chinchilla camp.

Playa flies are bicycle mounted color-morphing light sculptures. They are made of ping-pong balls attached to wires hanging from a flexible mast attached to a bicycle. The ping-pong balls contain color-morphing LED's similar to those used in the cubatron. There were a dozen bicycles equipped like that on the playa.

Light Painting

This is the good work of Molly, using sparklers. The first sparkler burned off after "BURNING", so she used another one for "MAN". We did only one take (we had only 2 sparklers!), and the result was close to perfect!

And yes, the fact that the full-moon makes the dot on the "i" is pure luck! :)

On the right, the pirate ship "Fly me to the Moon" looks like a white moon crescent and is rigged like a ship. Built by Ryan Mathern on a 86 Chevy Astrovan chassis. He reversed the linkage and the boat drives in reverse.

During the Shivaratri festival (the 'Great Night of Shiva'), thousands of Hindu devotees and pilgrims gather at the Pashupatinath Temple to pray and celebrate Lord Shiva. Smoking holy Ganja is part of the ritual.

This photo was taken during the dismantling of the installation.

I heard that several people got injured on the Coyote (broken arms / wrists and what not). No-one died. Initially the coyote head could spin. I think many people got hit by the giant metal ears, This was the dangerous part especially if you didn't realize the head could spin. After taking several people to the hospital, they put a sign "Don't climb - Seriously", and locked the head. People kept climbing it anyway, since the sculpture was designed to be climbed. Later, the sign was changed to a more adequate "Climb at your own risks".
