Merlin
The Merlin (Falco columbarius) is a small species of Falcon from the Northern Hemisphere, with numerous subspecies throughout North America and Eurasia. A bird of prey once known colloquially as a Pigeon Hawk in North America, the Merlin breeds in the northern Holarctic; some migrate to subtropical and northern tropical regions in winter. Males typically have wingspans of 21-23 inches, with females being slightly larger. They are swift fliers and skilled hunters who specialize in preying on small birds in the size range of sparrows to quail. The Merlin has for centuries been well regarded as a Falconry Bird. In recent decades Merlin populations in North America have been significantly increasing, with some Merlin's becoming so well adapted to city life that they forgo migration.

The red-footed tortoise (Chelonoidis carbonaria) is a species of tortoises from northern South America. These medium-sized tortoises generally average 30 cm (12 in) as adults, but can reach over 40 cm (16 in). They have dark-colored, loaf-shaped carapaces (back shell) with a lighter patch in the middle of each scute (scales on the shell), and dark limbs with brightly colored scales that range from pale yellow to dark red. Recognized differences are seen between red-footed tortoises from different regions. They are closely related to the yellow-footed tortoise (C. denticulata) from the Amazon Basin. They are popularly kept as pets, and over-collection has caused them to be vulnerable to extinction.
Their natural habitat ranges from savannah to forest edges around the Amazon Basin. They are omnivorous with a diet based on a wide assortment of plants, mostly fruit when available, but also including grasses, flowers, fungi, carrion, and invertebrates. They do not brumate, but may aestivate in hot, dry weather.
Eggs, hatchlings, and young tortoises are food for many predators, but the main threats for adults are jaguars and humans. Population density ranges from locally common to very scarce due in part to habitat destruction and over-collection for food and the pet trade.

victoria a spayed garden cat in her bespoke shelter raised off the ground under the patio table :) she's fed daily. victoria is a semi feral cat that's sheltered in my garden since being a kitten. she has become more friendly recently but she's happy in the garden with her friends. she's never too far away
i should have cut off the wilko label! i hadn't noticed it until i viewed the photo. the shelter is an adapted cotton rope laundry basket lined underneath with a few carpet tiles, backed with a rug on what would have been the base and one handle tied on top to one horizontal strut of the patio table. then further infilled with a cushion and a couple of warm shawls. it's safely lifted off the ground using a plastic crate with a couple of carpet tiles on top of the crate
victoria found it, liked it and settled

It's definitely a hefty bit more of a challenge, but I've been getting some very workable results adapting the Pentax DA* 300mm to the Z7 and using it full manual.
