We made our annual trip to London in November. We travel down by coach from Slaithwaite and stay at The Cumberland Hotel at Marble Arch. It’s actually a weekend ladies shopping trip that is run as a fundraiser for Slaithwaite Brass Band – I’m the only bloke that goes every year! We decided ( the two of us) to stay down in London until Thursday this time as we wanted to see weekday London and be able to explore a bit further afield on foot. We covered up to 16 miles a day, which is tough going on crowded pavements with hundreds of busy roads to cross. I photographed anything that looked interesting but I bent a contact in the CF card slot, fortunately I had quite a few SD cards with me and the 5D has dual slots so I was able to carry on using it. It’s currently at Lehmann’s getting fixed.

With it being close to Christmas the decorations are up everywhere so there was plenty of colour at night. In Hyde Park the Winter Wonderland was in full swing, we’ve never bothered going to it before but I went twice at night this time. It is massive this year, I couldn’t get over how big it is and the quality of some of the attractions. The cost and effort involved must be phenomenal – it was quite expensive though. It was very difficult to photograph, with extremes of light (LED’s) and darkness and fast moving rides into the bargain. I think I have some decent usable stuff but at the time of writing I am only part way through the editing process so I don’t know for sure.

We set off at around 8.15 am every day and stayed out for at least 12 hours. The weather was poor for a day and a half with drizzle and very dull grey conditions, fortunately we had some pleasant weather (and light) along the way as well. Being based at the end of Oxford Street – Europe’s busiest shopping street – meant that I did quite a bit of night shooting on there. Although I carried a tripod everywhere I only used it once and that was during the day! Because there is always a moving element in almost every shot it seemed pointless using a tripod. I would have got some shots free of movement – or I could have gone for ultra-long exposures to eliminate people and traffic but it would have been problematic I felt. In the end I wound the ISO up and hand held – fingers crossed.

We walked out to Camden Market and Locks but it had been raining and we were a bit early as many were only just setting up for the day. We tried to follow routes that we hadn’t used before and visit new places. We paid a fortune to get in St Pauls but you can’t use cameras. This something that I fail to see the point of, ban flash if you want but if you are going to encourage tourism why ban cameras when there is nothing in particular happening in there. It’s a rule that seems to be applied arbitrarily in cities around the world. Fortunately we could take photos from the outside of the dome, which was real reason for visiting, and we had some great light. Expensive compared with a couple of euros in some famous cathedrals. I’ve wanted to walk to Canary Wharf for a number of years and this year we did. We crisscrossed the Thames a few times and tried to follow the Thames path at other times. We covered around ten miles but it was an interesting day. It was also very quiet for the last four or five miles. We got there about 12.00 and managed to get a sandwich in a café in the shopping centre at the foot of the high rise office blocks before tens of thousands of office workers descended from above. It was mayhem, packed, with snaking queues for anywhere that sold food. We crossed to the other side of The Isle of Dogs and looked across to the O2 Arena and the cable car, unfortunately there isn’t a way across for pedestrians and it was around 3.00 pm. With darkness falling at around 4.30 we decide it was too late to bother. We made our way back to the Thames Clipper pier to check the sailing times. They sail every twenty minutes so we had a couple of glasses of wine and a rest before catching the Clipper. Sailing on the Thames was a first in 15 trips to London. The Clipper is fast and smooth, the lights had come on in the city and there was a fantastic moon rise. It was nigh on impossible to get good shots at the speed we were traveling though and there were times that I wished I could be suspended motionless above the boat. Again, hopefully I will have some usable shots.

We felt that the shopping streets were a little quieter, following the Paris massacre it was to be expected, I might be wrong as we were out and about at later times than previous trips. I think I have heard that footfall is down though. It was good to get into some of the quieter backstreets and conversely to be stuck in the city business district – The Square Mile- at home time. A mass exodus of people running and speed walking to bus stops and the rail and tube stations. It was difficult to move against or across the flow of bodies rushing home.

Whilst the Northern(manufacturing) economy is collapsing, London is a giant development site, it must be the tower crane capital of Europe at the moment. It was difficult to take a shot of any landmark free of cranes, it was easier to make the cranes a feature of the photo. It’s easy to see where the wealth is concentrated – not that there was ever any doubt about it. The morons with too much money are still driving their Lambo’s and Ferraris etc. like clowns in streets that are packed with cars , cyclists and pedestrians, accelerating viciously and noisily for 50 yards. They are just sad attention seekers. From Battersea to Canary Wharf we walked the Thames Embankment, the difference between high and low tide on the river is massive, but the water was the colour of mud – brown! Not very attractive in colour. We caught a Virgin Train from Kings Cross for £14.00 each – a bargain!. We had quite a bit of time to kill around midday at Kings Cross so I checked with security that I was OK to wander around taking photos, without fear of getting jumped by armed security, and set off to photograph the station and St Pancras International Station across the road. I haven’t even looked at the results as I type this but I’ll find out if they are any good shortly. Talking of security, following Paris, there was certainly plenty of private security at most attractions, I don’t know if it was terrorism related though, I can’t say I noticed an increased police presence on the streets. It took us three hours and five minutes from Kings Cross to being back home, not bad for a journey of 200 miles. I can’t imagine that spending countless billions on HS2 or HS3 is going to make a meaningful (cost effective) difference to our journey. Improving what we have, a little faster, would be good. There are some bumpy bits along the route for a mainline and Wakefield to Huddersfield is the equivalent of a cart track – and takes over 30 minutes – it’s only a stone’s throw.

Actually, 'winter' arrived on December 1 with snow, ice and cold - now it is cold enough for the lake to be totally frozen and safe enough (?) for the ice fishing to be enjoyed. Usually there are 15-16 people out there, backs to the wind...hoping.....

Scott collects some really great kitsch. In the flowerpot on their backdeck lives a John Denver statue that also plays music. While I didn't get a picture of it, we ended up sticking an American flag into the pot because nothing is more ruggedly American than John Denver.

Actually, these jets never flew at mach speed in any air show in or near city due to sonic boom that would break windows and waking up sleepy babies, or halting lovers in love act. :) So instead these jets will fly at close to mach speed. Even not at sound speed, some parts of plane will reach mach speed and cause wild phenoms of air condensation. Though this one not a complete cone, just a fan, still a thrill for me.

Continuing on with the list of random purchases I make, a kind of special entry - Medicom RAH Black Rock Shooter, purchased during a recent work stint in Winnipeg, MB.

I have zero knowledge of this character, and in general, I know that Medicom 1/6 figures are rather lacklustre in comparison to companies like Hot Toys. But for the price, I figured why the hell not.

Like I always say, the strength of a toy line often isn't the actual product, but the licensing rights behind it. Pretty much if you're looking for an anime 1/6 figure, it's almost guaranteed to be from Medicom. Of course, the scale is used rather loosely because well, I don't think they're actually in scale, but rather, are about a foot tall.

As I mentioned, I know pretty much nothing about the subject. I've seen some cosplay during Anime North, but that seemed short lived as compared to other series... of course that seems to be the trend with most properties at Anime North. So far as I can tell, Black Rock Shooter is a skinny girl from another dimension who has a sword and a really freakin' big gun.

Having hands on experience with Ultra SFIV Chun Li & Cammy, along with Skyward Sword Link, I think it can be pretty much taken as fact that RAH bodies are more lightweight and flimsy as compared to Hot Toys ones. I don't have enough figures to know for sure, but I think there is a greater variety of bodies used for RAH figures as compared to Hot Toys.

Of course, this might be due to the amount of skin most of these Anime girls show.

Black Rock Shooter comes with accessories, of course, including 5 extra hands (7 in total), an extra front hair piece with the blue glowing eye effect, articulated hair on her head, her sword, and her big ass gun.

And stands with clips.. so many stands.

I'm guessing the gun took a lot of money to produce, because normally I'm thinking I'd see two, maybe three expressions as well as other accessories that would be appropriate, like articulated chains or something.

The hair can be fiddled with in order to simulate movement, just like the coat can.

The hands, much like all the other RAH figures I've played with, all have that terrible design that have the connection to the body be this long narrow post connected to the hand itself. Needless to say, I've already broken one and it needs to be replaced.

Furthermore, maybe it's because mine is used, but it seems that the neck joint isn't quite strong enough to fully control the weight of the head plus hair.

Another constant with RAH figures I've played with is that outfits are typically made of less that premium materials. Black Rock Shooter's coat is made of black vinyl, with wires in the tail of the coat to simulate flowing cloth.

The detailing on these Anime figures typically isn't as involved as with figures that come from a motion picture property, with quality of paint apps and decal more being more front and center. From that perspective RAH figures are typically not bad, with clean work coming from the factory.

If you look on the sword, it's basically a shaped piece of plastic with a decent finish on it. Ditto for the gun as well, though I will say the sheer size and weight of the thing is pretty impressive.

The body itself is actually pretty posable, including some hidden ab action. It's hidden as the ab section of the figure is actually concealed by a flexible rubber skin. The coat can come off but if I'm being honest, there isn't really much to take photographs of.

Finally, we arrive at my least favourite part of this set, the gun. Actually getting the figure to hold the figure is one thing, but posing it correctly is another. I had no instructions to go off of, but based on a photo or two that I saw, it seems that the gun is the suspended by the other two flimsy plastic stands the set came with.

And what a royal pain in the ass that was to get it done.

So overall, the figure is alright, but definitely not one I'd EVER consider paying full price for. It certainly stands out on my shelves, though.

I spent about on hour taking videos of my eye in my bathroom for no good reason.

Actually just a foot or so off the trail. That rattling sound really gets your attention.

Actually can't say if they're bad and they've got headbutting on their mind but wouldn't mind betting they have, specially that one on the right looks like he's ready! Bit muddy in there.

Actually, I was faking, there's nothing out there.

Actually, just replacing a ruptured brake line on the right rear caliper. Not fun, but fixed.

I think I remember reading somewhere that this figure sculpt was based on Marlon Wayans who was actually cast (and paid by contract) to play Robin in "Batman Returns," hence the four inch flat top hair style! But since he was never filmed, Kenner had no precedent to make an African American Robin, and hence he was painted as his usual cracker self!

Ah, that's how it's done!

Actually I'm very fond of corned beef – it was a real favourite when I was a boy :)

There's really only one way to immerse yourself in an event and that is to actually participate in it.

Having done so with the TET Parade in Westminster, California, I walked the route with representatives of a company that was a sponsor. Seeing the crowds lining the streets was interesting, but honestly, the best joy is in being a spectator at this colorful, cultural event that showcases, rich tapestries, intricate costumes, and festive floats unlike most you'll see on the coast.

Tet Vietnamese New Year celebrating with a Tet Festival coincides with the Chinese New Year and celebrations throughout the state of California ranging from the Golden Dragon Parade & Festival in Los Angeles to the Chinese Parade and Festival in San Francisco.

The Tet Parade has been hosted many years, but some years the event is not held, depending on sponsorships, etc. On the years that it does go forward, the event includes a launch celebration in a parking lot in which the officials appease the dragon by serving fruits & gifts to the fictional character that dances and moves around. Many firecrackers are set off so the air is filled with smoke and noise.

The parade marches along the streets of Westminster with bands comprised of young violinists (girls dressed in silky, long dresses,) traditional Vietnamese attire that is elegant, bright and contains lots of silk & sashes, and some of the name singers and actors in the Vietnamese world of entertainment.

After the parade attendees stick around for displays from community groups at the Asian Garden Mall.

(Wikipedia: Schanigarten is the Austro-Bavarian term for tables and chairs set up on the sidewalk in front of eating and drinking places. Unlike normal beer gardens (Gastgärten), the customers actually sit on public property. Originally, Schanigärten (pl.) referred only to Viennese coffee houses, but now the expression is used in other parts of Austria and for other types of establishments like restaurants and taverns)

The Café Landtmann in Vienna is a typical Viennese coffee house in the Ringstrasse style. It is located in the first District at the University Ring 4, corner Löwelstraße 22, and is known throughout the city.

Location

The cafe is located on the ground floor of the Palais Lieben-Auspitz called Mietwohnhauses (apartment building), in the immediate vicinity of the Burgtheater, the University of Vienna and the party headquarters of the Social Democrats and close to the Vienna City Hall with the City Hall Park, the Federal Chancellery and three ministries. The café is therefore frequented by, among other actors, politicians, civil servants and journalists and is the venue for press conferences.

History

The coffee was on 1 October 1873 of the Cafétier (café owner) Landtmann as "Vienna 's most elegant and largest café-localities" in a prominent, 1872 built corner house at the at the time also new Franzensring (so to 1919 the address of this part of Vienna's Ringstrasse) opened. The ring road was indeed opened by emperor Franz Joseph I in 1865, but still long not completed in the area of the coffee house: The city hall was under construction since 1872, but was only opened in 1883. The university main building was built 1877-1884, the Burgtheater from 1874 to 1888. The coffee was thus in his early years surrounded mainly by large construction sites.

1881 sold Landtmann his coffeehouse to the brothers Wilhelm and Rudolf Kerrl who continued it under the name Landtmann and extended it in the direction of Oppolzergasse. Rudolf soon retired from active business life, Wilhelm Kerrl led on the café alone until 1916 and then sold it, worn down by the economy of scarcity of the First World War, to Karl Anton Kraus, previously a butcher and innkeeper. He led the coffee for only five years, because in 1921 it was operated by a Hokare Ges.mbH (unlimited company) (the name stands for hotel, coffee and restoration companies). This company had to be liquidated 1925/1926.

The Café Landtmann was now bought in the fall of 1926 by Mr. and Mrs. Conrad and Angela Zauner. The new owners had it in 1929 after a design by Ernst Meller, experienced in the establishment of coffee houses, fully restored: with the preserved to this day interior which is under preservation order. Particularly striking are four wooden pillars at the entrance, which were created by Hans Scheibner and their decoration representing premiere scenes of the Burgtheater. With this elaborate interior design Landtmann consolidated its position as the most elegant café in town. In 1949, Konrad Zauner's son Erwin took the management of the café and led it on with great success.

In 1974 the company received the National Award and since then it is allowed to use the Federal coat of arms in commercial transactions. In 1976, the present owner family took the local and renovated it in 1980 again.

In the café was Robert Böck, on duty only called Mr. Robert, working for 28 years, many years as head waiter in a tuxedo, and he knew all the important guests personally. On his last working day, on 23 December 2003, many celebrities came to his departure from the cafe. Mayor Michael Häupl served Mr. Robert, who had so often served him a "little brown". To this end, he handed him the "Golden Rathausmann" "for the most famous, most discreet and most accommodating waiter of Vienna".

Details

Small stage

In the basement below the coffee was after Czeike already 1936-1938 the Cabaret 'Merry Landtmann" for the dancer Cilli Wang set up by her husband. 1953 in the basement the small stage "The Tribune" was established (since 2002: "The new stand", directed by Karl Heinz Wukow). It is one of the numerous small Viennese theaters that operate with modest public support and which offer authors, actors and directors fields of application.

Winter Garden

2007 was built a conservatory on the facade towards the castle theater, designed by Manfred Wehdorn by 1.5 million euros (Bernd Querfeld). With 87 square meters and 29 tables, the conservatory is almost as spacious as the great hall of the café; thus the capacity of the premises has been extended by a quarter.

Landtmann's Bel-Etage

2012 were opened above the café three function rooms, which are referred to as "Landtmann's Bel-Etage". One of the rooms is named after Berta Zuckerkandl, which in the house (entrance Oppolzergasse 6) from 1917 to 1938 run her famous salon, meeting place of artists, scientists and politicians.

Price of water

2013 got the coffee into media because guests who instead of ordering other beverages only want drink tap water this service no longer receive free. The scheme has been criticized partly violently. The glass of water for ordered coffee, as it corresponds to the Viennese coffee house tradition, still is served free.

Miscellaneous

In the Café Landtmann are according to indications of the owner family on average held 2.8 press conferences per day.

Since 2003, the café is every summer venue of the coffee house theater ink & coffee.

In March 2009, was opened in Tokyo in the central district of Minato-ku, in fact, in the district Kitaaoyama in the Aoyama Street, a "Café Landtmann" called local opened.

Guests

The coffee house was according to Czeike visited, among others, by the artists Attila Hörbiger, Paul Hörbiger, Oskar Kokoschka, Hans Moser, Max Reinhardt, Oskar Werner and Paula Wessely. Among the politicians he names Julius German, Robert Dannenberg and Karl Seitz, who were part of the "Red Vienna", and in the postwar period the then very popular Chancellor Julius Raab. Gustav Mahler was encountering here with Karl Goldmark, Gary Cooper and Marlene Dietrich were among the "by-trotting" guests, the authors Jura Soyfer, Felix Salten, Thomas Mann and John Boynton Priestley also frequented the Landtmann. The owners themselves mention over and above Peter Altenberg, Sigmund Freud, Emmerich Kálmán, Curd Jürgens, Otto Preminger and Romy Schneider as regulars.

Actually they quite like him in King's Lynn. Over a decade before the Magna Carta, John granted Lynn a charter which allowed the guilds of the town to plan for the future. From 1204 to Georgian times King's Lynn was Britain's busiest port in its richest county. It was also a part of the Hansa League. Since then, decline has been steep with very little port activity remaining. There are however some splendid historic buildings from this extended period of wealth still standing and worth a visit. Actually...I thought my dad was trying to take a picture...little did I know he had it on video mode! Lol....

Actually a cuddle fish...

Yes but it was actually a very surreal reality ! I’d worked for the company for six months , getting no where , struggling for money , life was truly dull and I was so lonely , then I met him , he was a very rich guy a friend of the MD , who often visited , was always very intense but took time to talk to me , strangely we became friends , a millionaire and a lonely young guy , it turns out , despite his money he’s lonely too ! So we gravitated into a friendship , he’d buy me lunch , we’d go for a drink after work , as the friendship grew so he seemed to take control , then one evening he made the most strange request “ I’m invited to a very important banquet , I hate going on my own , I’d love to have your company M but it would not be right to take a young man , but a beautiful young lady , that would give me such credence , would you be her “ he was staring so intently into my eyes , he was deadly serious too ! Some how the idea did appeal “ Nice idea but I’m a boy “ was my crass reply “But when I look at you I see a beauty that you just don’t realise you have , let show you , I’ll pay for you to go to one of these beauty weekends ladies go to , get pampered and beautified , at least give it a try “ so , yes , I agreed ! It was amazing , a total revelation , the beauticians were so kind , so enthusiastic ,”Honey you have such a pretty face , a pert ass like a girl , even your many boobs are more like a young girls breasts , we will make you so beautiful you won’t ever want to dress as a boy again . So it proved with all my body hair removed , my skin treated with lotions , several facials , they truly transformed me into a stunning young girl . Wearing silky under wear and lingerie was such a sensual delight , how the silky soft materials caressed and teased my feminised flesh , dresses and skirts just fitted so perfectly and felt amazing to wear , I was totally absorbed by feminine desires , I stayed for a whole week , learnt the right deportment and stature of a woman , how to walk , talk , yes , and act as a girl , high heels were now a must , I never left the bedroom without makeup on , I was starting to live this feminine dream . When Henry , my sponsor saw me wearing this long silk dress , his face was truly a picture , I felt a shimmer from goose bumps , butterflies in my tummy , he had desire , lust even , in his eyes as he stared at me , I truly felt like a beauty queen , wa liking into this banquet I felt I was his woman , I’d never as a boy had the self confidence I now have as a young lady , a beautiful young lady , oh the admiring glances of envy from Henry’s friends and associates , the envious looks from their female partners as the men quite literally flirted with me , yes I was naughty ,I flirted with them too , I was in heaven , Henry positively encouraged me too , he was so happy , we are such a happy couple , it still feels so surreal mincing go out table on his arm , swaying my hips , knowing those male eyes are ogling my gentle flicker of my ass cheeks beneath that tight , clinging silk dress , in wearing a thong , so they are bare , so sensitive to Henry’s touch , later on I danced with his friends , their hands caressed me so sensually , they could feel my ass cheeks were bare beneath my dress , it turned them on , ouch yes and me too “You can touch , you can feel my ass , but remember I’m Henry’s girl , for tonight “ I whisper , leaving the door wide open for future clandestine relationships , oh yes I want to live the life now I’m her !

Actually Stage 2 as well. I have a fondant alligator going into the water and a baby boy will be cuddled up in the sand under a leaf. Photos to come - they are already packed up for the ride.

Each and everyone of you have allowed me to "develop" (no pun intended LOL) my skills in photography just that little bit more so photos of her will be more than just a snapshot that I took.

To those of you who have mentored me and to those who gave me some excellent photography advice and even criticism (and you know who you are) I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I just hope that I will continue to improve my skills for the next 25,000 views.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all know that I appreciate your comments, awards and invites "-)

On the photo, as you can see if you have been following the water park story, she did finally get wet, but I will post more leading up to this point (I know you all be sick of seeing them but who cares LOL).
