Maddie and Chris are testing out animations for an interactive in which museum visitors identify materials based on facts about them. Each material puck contains an RFID chip which allows the system to identify the material it contains. The platform under the puck responds with different animations depending on whether the visitor has placed the correct material puck on it. my father completely upgraded us with this wonderful handcrafted geoboard made with fine hardwoods and brass pegs. this video pretty much speaks for itself; it's obvious T finds activities like this utterly absorbing. usually i leave him with his own thoughts at times like this, but i wanted his grandpa to see how much T appreciates his "new toy." he was so delighted with how it arrived; his whole name was spelled out in colorful bands! we're keeping this beautiful piece in the family room...EVERYONE loves to play with it.
i'm really sorry about this, but after T put all the bands on the board, he grabbed my camera and said he wanted to take a picture of his design. i allowed that and said we'd send his picture to grandpa...and at that he took about 20 shots, really trying hard to get a good picture of his design. but then later, when i was cleaning up my camera roll, i completely forgot that T took those pictures and deleted them for being off-center and sort of hard to understand. i'm hoping T forgets too, but if he asks please tell him you saw his cool design!
anyway, thank you, dad. this is an amazing piece that we'll be playing with and learning from for many years to come!
I've always been tickled by the idea that, somewhere, somehow, some marketing wizard thought that children's coloring and activity books should accompany the release of a David Lynch film.
