Of the coast of Aci Trezza are three tall, column-shaped islands. According to local legend, these great stones are the ones thrown at Odysseus in The Odyssey. The islands are referred to as the "isole dei ciclopi" (islands of the Cyclops, or Cyclopean Isles) by locals. This compliments the notion that the Cyclops once had a smithy below Mount Etna, which looms over the village to the northwest.

Aci Trezza (in siciliano Trizza) è una frazione del comune di Aci Castello, in provincia di Catania. Centro peschereccio di antica e notevole tradizione, è famoso per il suo paesaggio.

Il paese venne fondato ufficialmente alla fine del XVII secolo da Stefano Riggio Santo Stefano principe di Campofiorito (Pa), vicario del viceré Francesco Fernandez de La Cueva duca di Alburquerque nel 1669 per sfollare gli abitanti messi in pericolo dall'eruzione dell'Etna. La scelta del viceré non era casuale, essendo Stefano Riggio proprietario dal 1651 della città di Aci Sant'Antonio e San Filippo (comprendente gli odierni comuni di Aci Sant'Antonio, Aci Catena e Valverde).

Aci Trezza nasce quindi come scalo marittimo del feudo dei Riggio, dal quale sarà separata (con Ficarazzi) solo il 15 settembre 1828 per essere accorpata ad Aci Castello.

Agli inizi del XVIII secolo conta circa 150 abitanti.
