Homer's epic poem (Odyssey) wants the eight large rocks that rise on the coast of Acitrezza (a delightful village in the province of Catania, in Sicily), to have been hurled by Polyphemus against Ulysses' ships, after the latter had blinded.

Isole dei ciclopi - Acitrezza (CT)

The small port of Acitrezza, the town of the Malavoglia, famous novel by the Italian writer Giovanni Verga. The land of the stacks (you can see one in the background on the left), which the Homeric poem the Odyssey tells were hurled by the giant Polyphemus against Ulysses' ships. A place full of stories, legends and culture of our incomparable Sicily.

Così sarebbero nati i faraglioni. Acitrezza, Sicily, these photos are bizarre but not fake, just HDR'ed and lightpainted, with liberal use of Lee filters.

Cyclops Riviera, Acitrezza - June 23th 2013

Behold then, coming toward us in a boat, an aged man, all white with ancient hair, who shouted:

“Woe to you, ye souls depraved! Give up all hope of ever seeing Heaven! I come to take you to the other shore, into eternal darkness, heat and cold. And thou that yonder art, a living soul, withdraw thee from those fellows that are dead.”

But when he saw that I did not withdraw, he said:

“By other roads and other ferries shalt thou attain a shore to pass across, not here; a lighter boat must carry thee.”

Watching a sunrise is always an exicing experience. I love a lot the blue hour, that particular moment between the night and the following morning. Aci Castello (CT), Sicily.
