Secure Social Rehabilitation Unit (SSRU) Coordinator David Evans of Jefferson City Correctional Center in Missouri received a VPO Coin earlier this month. The award came as a result of his assisting a mentally ill offender understand and comply with his medically-necessary surgery needs.
After his initial transfer to the hospital, the patient refused to consent to the procedure. A second transport and procedure then had to be scheduled. Had David not been there to assist the patient in completing the necessary consent forms, it is highly unlikely the offender would have again refused consent, causing a third transport and surgery to be scheduled. It is this willingness to go above and beyond that enabled the patient to get the care he needed and helped our staff reduce the cost of further transportation needs.
“I appreciate your consideration in awarding David the VPO Coin,” Mental Health Director Trudy Stephens-Baker said. “Had David not accompanied the offender and helped him to feel safe…it is highly unlikely the offender would have trusted the medical team.”
We offer sincere thanks to David for embracing and exemplifying Corizon Health’s SMART Values of Safety, Motivation, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork.

One of many protests across the US to hold the Bush regime accountable for their implementation of torture at Guantanamo and other US facilities.
Sgt. Stephen Hyman, a Soldier assigned to the 20th Engineer Brigade, takes a photograph of a grave marker in the Main Post Cemetery, May 9, as part of oversight to help upgrade record keeping for cemetery operations. Under guidance from the U.S. Army Installation Management Command and a directive issued by the Secretary of the Army, an Army-wide gravesite accountability initiative is being conducted to ensure the identification and proper commemoration of all those interred in Army post cemeteries.
