Zelda Cat is a total lap kitty, but normally she settles in for the evening on Mr. M's lap. I'm not sure why I was so special this evening, but I won't question it.

Photo taken in our very dim living room without flash. I tried to lighten it up a bit with picnik.

1.5 lbs off. 31.5 lbs in total. Back on track. #accountability

Tornadoes: Agencies Promote Resilience but Actions Needed to Improve Access to FEMA Assistance

Notes: Tornado risk is based on the 250-mph wind speed zone shown in Figure 304.2(1) in International Code Council 500-2014. FEMA considers a jurisdiction tornado-resistant if it adopted, as mandatory, the 2018 International Building Code or later editions without weakening any of the storm shelter provisions of International Building Code Section 423. Data reported at the county level is based on survey responses and FEMA tracking of nearly 12,000 jurisdictions within and including counties. Jurisdictions within counties that do not participate in tornado building code tracking are not reflected in this map.

DHS Annual Assessment: Improved Guidance on Revised Acquisition Goals Would Enhance Transparency

Note: Programs included in this analysis were those with an approved life-cycle cost estimate in GAO’s scope. Programs develop a life-cycle cost estimate to support Acquisition Decision Event 2A before they have an approved initial acquisition program baseline. GAO excluded the Cyber Analytics and Data System (CADS) program from this analysis because it did not have an approved estimate. For some programs in this analysis, estimated costs include amounts for multiple segments, some of which are preliminary. All values presented are in fiscal year 2023 dollars, which may not match values presented in other DHS documentation.

Mayor Ras J. Baraka and the Newark Municipal Council announced today that the City of Newark will hold a public hearing on the Executive Order to create a Newark Police Civilian Complaint Review Board

“We are seeking public input, ideas, concerns, and solutions as we create this groundbreaking measure to enforce police accountability and government transparency in our beloved City,” said Mayor Baraka. “We are completely changing the way our Police Department interacts with our residents, and these hearings will create the path by which we do it. I urge all Newark residents to attend, listen, and speak.”

The board will provide Newark residents with an opportunity to make complaints about police misconduct involving excessive use of force, abuse of authority, unlawful arrest, unlawful stop, unlawful searches, discourtesy, or use of offensive language, including but not limited to, slurs relating to race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and disability.

Their findings will be submitted to the Police Director. No current or former police employees, excluding the Inspector General, will serve on the board.

Delhi Solidarity Group (DSG) and Centre for Financial Accountability (CFA) organised the felicitation ceremony of Com. Dr Thomas Franco, former General Secretary of All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) and Com. Soumya Dutta, the new General Secretary, AIBOC. The felicitation was followed by a lecture on “Crisis in Public Sector Banks and Importance of Bank Unions” by Prof C P Chandrasekhar, Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, JNU.

Com. Franco was recognised for leading AIBOC — the largest bank officers’ organisation with a membership of around 3,20,000 officers— at a time when the Public Sector Banks are facing a huge crisis due to demonetisation, rising NPAs, FRDI bill, and various scams. Under his leadership, the AIBOC reached out to civil society and other trade unions to form a united front against the attack on Public Sector Institutions, and took initiatives like the People’s Parliament and Save Public Sector.

Com. Soumya Datta, the new General Secretary of AIBOC, was also felicitated in the meeting. Datta has been an active member of the trade union for the last 28 years. His involvement in the union started even during his student days as a part of Students Federation of India. As the General Secretary, State Bank Officers’ Confederation, Bengal Circle, he had strived to reach out to the poor and rural areas. At a time when the Public Sector Banks are in a fight for survival, his people-oriented leadership is a much-needed one.

The felicitation would be followed by a lecture on “Crisis in Public Sector Banks and Importance of Bank Unions” by Prof C P Chandrasekhar, Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, JNU. Since the last two decades, Prof Chandrasekhar has been writing on the neo-liberal policies. He is also the author of The Market that Failed: Neo-Liberal Economic Reforms in India.
