Becket Bridge opens early, part of Gov. Patrick's Accelerated Bridge Program.
MassDOT's Highway Division accelerated the advertising with a contract bid in March and construction beginning in June 2009. The contract with Roach & Sons included financial incentives based on accelerating work schedules. The bridge was originally scheduled to open in late 2010. Contract incentives targeted opening in December 2009. The Becket bridge instead opens November 9 after 139 days of construction.
