This past June I had the opportunity to take a few rides along the Mississippi River. These particular photo images were taken out by Mud Lake and then a few were taken by Lock and Dam 11 in Dubuque, Iowa. I found the river to be a beautiful blue, along with the sky, the algae a nice contrasting green along with the blades of grass, weeds, and reeds that were popping up and floating along the top of the river. Lily pads and leaves were also in the mix floating along the river bank. Nature at its finest. Abstracted crop of a larger image - a plant in a nearby garden that happened to be largely backlit by the sun.

Back to twig & brush
Sketch from imagination. A friend asked if there was a connection to "The Handmaid's Tale" ... I didn't know it, but some googling made me see what she meant

Two from SF MOMA CALDER TO WARHOL—Introducing the Fisher Collection
(Note, these images look absolutely nothing like the original works, both of which are painted in subtle earth tones, and the Lichtenstein is also a marvelous three-dimensional construction. I just thought it would be fun to see them together in total black & white, as if a Xerox paste-up.)
Another image from a mangled, manipulated, and abused photograph.

Four nude figures dance across the abstracted bow of a ship. Each figure strikes a distinct, rhythmic pose even as they are shackled together at the ankle by iron chains. The outer most figure appears to have broken free from this rhythmic chain-gang-- iron chains dangle freely from his right ankle. The work, unveiled on the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Surinam and the Dutch Antilles, is located along the Maas River in Lloydkwartier, a newly designed neighborhood built in the old port area of Delfshaven. The work’s location and title evoke the Dutch slave trade. Clave refers to a rhythmic pattern used in Afro-Cuban music.
A manatee at Blue Springs State Park in Orange City, FL., hidden under the reflections on the surface of the water.
I thought it would be interesting to play around a bit with focus (or rather, the lack of), and see what, if any, kind of abstract, impressionistic effect would result. Is there a point where lack of focus transitions from a simply bad image to something artistic? If so, once you cross that point, is less focus better?

A "layering" experiment with a very simple photograph of a group of croci, and, a celebration of fresh Spring colour. It's slightly fragmented/abstracted by the tiled texture, an effect I'm in danger of becoming addicted to lol !
Hope you're all having a great weekend :)

I've wanted to do a abstracted landscape set for a long time now - I know what I want to do - but I'm finding it difficult to focus in on the detail of a landscape to abstract it - guess I'll get better with practice :-)
Le Chat (Baudelaire)
Another abstracted cat ink sketch inspired while (re)reading Baudelaire poems. Turned out a bit messy, but I find it adds to the mood.
Ta tête et ton dos élastique [...] ton corps électrique
[...]
Et des pieds jusques à la tête,
Un air subtil, un dangereux parfum,
Nagent autour de son corps brun.
Baudelaire
Your head and your elastic back [...] your electric body
[...]
And, from her feet up to her head,
A subtle air, a dangerous perfume
Floats about her dusky body.
