I was struck by the clarity and tonality of this reflection; light re time of year & day, & pov was just right ...
i stood above the silence and watched her cross a color that didn’t belong to this world. the glass had dyed the sun, and the sun, in turn, had dyed the walls. nothing felt permanent. even the shadow she left behind seemed unsure whether to stay. this wasn’t just a building. it was an illusion dressed as structure. light performed like a memory—fragmented, intentional, fleeting.

Detail of one of the Owen Owen Building's 3 facades in Coventry, England.
Architects: Rolf Hellberg & Mark Harris. 1954.
It was built for Owen Owen Department Stores to replace the previous building, built in 1937, but bombed in the blitz in November 1940.
The building was refitted by Primark in 2006.
Photo taken: March 2025.
Apologies for my Gershwin pun! This is a section of a roadside metal container. Some might say that it has seen better days, but I like the way that it has weathered.
Another photo inspired by the work of the late Saul Leiter. This image was taken through the window of a 'modern' telephone box. The glass bears the remains of posters and poster adhesive.
Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire, England.
Maybe you too can see a flock of seagulls in this image if you squint.....

Some Wikipedia Building history:
The structure was built in 1907, was designed by Salfield and Kohlberg and is clad in white tile and copper. It is bounded by Columbus Avenue, Kearny Street, and Jackson Street; straddling the North Beach, Chinatown, and Financial District neighborhoods of the city.
Despite the 1907 finish, building work had begun before the San Francisco earthquake the previous year, but extensive damage to the building site, and the rest of the city, slowed down the construction considerably.
The top floor initially housed the headquarters of the notorious Abe Ruef, a local political figure at the time.
In 1949 or 1950, the nightclub hungry i, which would become very influential in the history of stand-up comedy in the US, was opened as an 83-seat venue in the Sentinel Building's basement by Eric Nord, who sold it to Enrico Banducci in 1951. After operating it as a venue for folk singers, Banducci began hiring comedians in 1953 starting with Mort Sahl, encouraging them to express themselves freely. Their success caused queues around the block, until Banducci moved the hungry i to the nearby International Hotel on Jackson Street in 1954.
In 1958, when the Sentinel Building had deteriorated and it was threatened with destruction, it was bought by Dutch-born investor Rob Moor and his wife Nella, who renovated it, renamed it to "Columbus Tower", and sold it one and a half years later to The Kingston Trio. The music group used it as their corporate headquarters during the 1960s. They built a recording studio in the basement which they used themselves and for many other artists.
The Kingston Trio later sold the building to film director Francis Ford Coppola, who renovated it and changed its name back to the Sentinel Building. Currently occupying much of the tower is Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope studio. Other tenants include independent public media producers for NPR and PBS, as well as independent sound designers for Pixar and Skywalker Sound, among others. On the ground floor is the Cafe Zoetrope (previously Cafe Niebaum-Coppola), which has occupied part of the building since 1999. The café is a bistro and wine shop satellite of the Inglenook Estate Winery in the Napa Valley.

Every war is the senseless destruction of lives

The world is full of objects, more or less interesting, I do not wish to add any more. I prefer, simply, to state the existence of things in terms of time and/or place.

for the March EyesTwo group’s theme of eyes
This was a theme/task for a group to blend real and not real. It turned out to be a real challenge but I really liked the outcome!

A TOP-DOWN, deliberately askew view of the fascinating central staircase in the Vitra Design Showcase building.
Here is a BOTTOM-UP view of the same staircase:

The Vitra Design Showcase is located in extreme southwest Germany. The Showcase is a three-story building with truly unusual exterior and interior architecture. Entrance to the Showcase is free. Besides the showrooms, there is a shop and restaurant. See my photo:

In addition to the Showcase, the Vitra Design Museum is also at this location. The Vitra Design Company manufactures some of its furniture at this site too. The whole VD complex is just a few minutes by car across the border from Basel BS Switzerland.

two shadows pause on an ancient wall, not quite touching, not quite apart — as if time split into mirrored halves. the light etches a silent meeting between presence and memory, where forms dissolve but meaning remains.
