twas a noble bottle of emile. i still have vivid memories of listening to Sabicas' and reading De Unamuno, lost in a fine fugue of spanish history - from the lush andalusian emirates to Pizarro's incredible capture of Atahualpa, up thru the grand age of the Spanish empire and down thru its lamentable domination by the falangists - (franco always reminded me of an effeminate shopkeeper) - you cant ask for more from a night of Emile 'Sapin'
Happy new year, friends!
It is certainly another happy one for me. People I care about are doing well, work is steady, the house is fine, and our dog continues to manage us according to her daily routine. Stability. Predictability. Contentment. Joy.
These and other things are the anchor for our dreams and aspirations, as they are released in the maelstrom of the world like leaves in the wind.
I hope to get some Alex time in February. I was unable to get out to meet with friends last month, and this month is busy. Keystone is coming up, and 2-3 days there have been penciled in. I look forward to that.

“After the first glass of absinthe you see things as you wish they were. After the second you see them as they are not. Finally you see things as they really are, and that is the most horrible thing in the world. I mean disassociated. Take a top hat. You think you see it as it really is. But you don’t because you associate it with other things and ideas. If you had never heard of one before, and suddenly saw it alone, you’d be frightened, or you’d laugh. That is the effect absinthe has, and that is why it drives men mad. Three nights I sat up all night drinking absinthe, and thinking that I was singularly clear-headed and sane. The waiter came in and began watering the sawdust. The most wonderful flowers, tulips, lilies and roses, sprang up, and made a garden in the cafe. “Don’t you see them?” I said to him. “Mais non, monsieur, il n’y a rien.”

In my new home, we keep the thermostat cold enough that 'room temperature' alcohol wouldn't burn! I had to heat this slowly in a double boiler before I could get the shot. Unexpected.

I’m not an expert on the subject, but these do appear to be absinthe spoons. My wife disagrees with my opinion. I doubt these are literally for the preparation of absinthe, but the perforations appear to be inspired by the highly imaginative perforations of absinthe spoons.

For this week's Me Again Monday "Alcohol" theme.
Pernod isn't everyone's choice, but I'm a fan.
No green fairies to report, but the perfect excuse to chase some of the cold away.

And here's the second image from a shoot last weekend.
We made the most of the last warm days here in the south of France, and we shot on location.
The model is Béa and she came to me with the idea of the shoot: Lady Absinthe, the green fairy from the beverage.
Hair and makeup were done by the talented Clara.
____________
